One thing to consider adding is extra layers for a subject if you happen to find them: i.e. extra hat/gloves/socks... super light to carry and might bring conserable warmth to a missing person without compromising your own body temperature.

We have a 65L/ 48hr pack that we have to carry with 3x that stuff for our SAR missions, do you have first aid and TQ in there? ....definitely different from my EDC bag.

Wondering, re radio strategy. In California we have CALCORD simplex direct to copters. Do you use something like that ? Awesome to see someone setting up ultralight. I used to weigh each item and write the weight on it. I was a nut for ultralight. I've seen people describe making packs (sewing them) to even weigh less !

Keep the knife. It's quicker than a multitool. I carry both. Upgrade to the Sawyer filter. Same price, laster longer, weighs less, way smaller, but don't put it in line. You don't want to contaminate the bladder. Invest in a headlamp.

Very interesting, thanks a lot for sharing. Looks like you could ad a small tarp if you wanted to and still be extremely light. May I ask what kind of temperatures you would feel comfortable with this set up?

Adventure Medical kit. A neat slim very pocketable kit which with only a couple of addition such as tick tweezers is ideal for a few days in the woods. What lets it down badly is the packaging. The inner pouch fits so tightly that it takes two hands to pull it out through the too-narrow zip in the outer sleeve. In a solo first aid situation needing two hands to access bandages etc when one hand might be bleeding or injured is just bad design. The inner pouch is also too long for the height of the outer so its top edge needs to be folded over to fit. And when you fold plastic too often it splits and then the inner isn't waterproof any more. Poorly thought out.

You should stick with the big pack. Search and rescue personnel need to be prepared to spend 1-2 nights out in the wilderness by themselves in case the weather turns bad or they get lost themselves.

What it takes to join an MRT: Experienced hill walker or mountaineer comfortable in all weathers in the terrain that the team you are joining covers in both summer and winter conditions Have full mountain “kit” of suitable mountaineering clothing and personal equipment Under 75 years old Knowledge of basic first aid, a first aid certificate would be preferable Have a reasonable level of fitness Able to navigate effectively off paths using map and compass Live in or close to the geographical area that the team you wish to join covers Be willing to pass a probationary period if that is part of the process for the team you are joining. In some teams, new members are not able to attend call outs until they have passed their probationary period Have good communication skills Be willing to work in a team Have made a commitment to remain in the area of the team that you wish to join for a reasonable period. Ask yourself: Are you confident in the mountains/outdoors, in awful weather, in the middle of the night? Do you have sufficient availability to be able to make a commitment to attend training and call- outs? Can you cope with an injured casualty? Positions are usually based on knowledge and experience, so it is a good option to go out and gain outdoor experience before volunteering. This is a thing from your search and rescue website hope this helps PS your best way to make SAR your career is to become a park ranger

why not keep a chemical water heater in there? not that you NEED hot water, but if you're gonna wait 20 min for the food to rehydrate then you might as well wait a minute or two for the chemical heater to kick in. just the same stuff they put in MREs

In my area they have a volunteer disaster program set Up and they have no clue on what to do also don’t listen lol I told them i will use my own set up until you get yout shit dialed in . Contact me when you need help i will be there . For myself dont even know what that is when in ghat mind set the goal the team then other people . Team first if your team is not ready with real deal gear then you cant save the people that need saving you now have to save the team . If you want to continue doing this i would make a lot of suggestions to them so you can actually save someone . My rig alone has massive med kit Tow kit Signal devises like Fire kit Signal panels Light sticks green High intensity light sticks Lots of mylar blankets 1000ml Rechargeable flood light with strobe High lift Shovel Gas and water turn off tool Pry bar Spare safety vests Water Room for my generator Wilderness blanket Back up ppe Back up personal lights Shelter And a few other items Have not even got to my kits yet .

Guns and search and rescue dont mix. That's way too much weight that has no use. Bear spray is proven more effective for bear attacks, and if there is a risk of dangerous individuals then you shouldn't be deploying without an LEO attached to your team.
