I have no idea how old these guys are, but as a 24 year old guy its great to hear them speak about what it means to be a man, and how the ideologies of masculinity are a bit messed up. My father was by no means a manly man, but he's also very reserved and quiet so I guess i've never heard somebody older than me talk about this sort of thing. I always take so much away from these videos from personalities I would never expect to be able to relate to.

Just finished watching Keith's "Window" series. I loved it. Wish I can get a chance to speak with him I am in remission also. It is difficult to be young and try to find yourself again after a traumatic experience like that.
@TheSkinDeep8 жыл бұрын
If you could speak to Keith now, what would you say? Are there things you believe Keith could tell you?
@valeriearthur668 жыл бұрын
I am not sure if he would say anything different to me. However, I would ask if he had the need to suppress his cancer (or feelings, vulnerability) due to masculinity and race? Did it make it harder to relate to others? For example, because of the stigma of the "Strong Black Woman Syndrome" people thought I was fine, people assumed I am strong. It didn't leave me room to be vulnerable because of the Stigma. I would want to know if he has ever felt that way during his battle with Cancer. I would not wish Cancer on my worst enemy. I am in remission now. Tuesday was my last treatment.
@keithwalker39898 жыл бұрын
Hey Valerie, thank you so much for taking the time to reach out to me! I definitely felt the need to suppress my cancer due to masculinity. Not so much because I am a black man but when you're in your 20s and 30s people tend to think that they are immortal. I never wanted to be the buzzkill that ruins the mood. Relating wise, all of my friends are amazingly empathetic! Sadly, no one can truly know what we go through. To be honest, explaining how dating works when you have cancer has been the most challenging. Earlier tonight, I even received a message saying she was not interested because of cancer. I find that we spend too much time caring what others think of us. Many moons ago I went out with my friends, whilst, hanging with them a pain shot up my back but I decided to stay quite. As we were walking I let my fear of what my friend might think of me get in the way of my own safety and ended up in the hospital. There are no simple answers when it comes to living with cancer. I can definitely tell you that first, you have, to be honest with yourself, only then will you allow yourself to be open to others about your pain.

Thank you so much Keith for responding. I appreciate it. I hope all continues to be well for you.

this was very soothing... just watching them converse, laughing, tearing up, it was great. Il was very calming, and i needed it. I just feel so much calmer. My boyfriend found out that he has a brain cancer two days ago, and i can't stop crying. I'm scared shitless. for him, for me... it's very tough. I woke up this morning, and for half a second i forgot everything, and then i kinda jerk my head backward as if something was coming at me in my face as i remembered what was going on. Anyways... i was looking for a soothing, calming, positive thing to get my mind off of it all and give my head and eyes a break, and i found it in those videos. Thank you.

@Thashi1798 жыл бұрын
I don't know if there is one specific take away. I think that the video shows viewers that two men can have an extremely deep and real relationship - with all the emotions! That men can be compassionate and sensitive to each other without having to be weird about it. It makes me realize that I want all my close relationships (with friends, family or romantic relationships) to be this open and natural.
