What is Knee Ligament Injury? | Ghutne Ki Chot Ko Kaise Theek Karen
A knee ligament is a short band of tough, flexible connective tissue that holds the knee joint together. Trauma, such as a car accident, can cause knee ligament injuries. Sports injuries can also cause them. Basketball or skiing injuries caused by twisting the knee are examples.
Injuries to the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) are the most common. During a sudden twisting motion, the ACL is usually stretched and/or torn (when the feet stay planted but the knees turn in the opposite direction). Football, basketball, and skiing are sports with a higher risk of ACL injuries.
A common knee ligament injury is the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL). PCL injuries are usually caused by sudden, direct impacts, such as car accidents or football tackles.
