What Is Kosher?

Kosher is not a style of cooking, nor does it imply that a Rabbi blesses the food in some way. The Hebrew word "kosher" means "fit, correct or proper." The term kosher has become synonymous with purity, quality and high standards of preparation. The process of certification involves examining the ingredients used to make the food, examining the process by which the food is prepared, and periodically inspecting the processing facilities to make sure that kosher standards are maintained. This Video was brought to you by getkosher.com, order from your favorite kosher restaurants online today. We make kosher easy!

Bats are rodents but because the travel through the air they are not a "bird". They are an un clean animal. "Kosher" is not "Jewish". YHWH the God of the bible "the creator" told us what we can eat and also what we should not eat Clean and unclean. Holy means set apart. Like the Sabbath day is set apart from the 6 days you can work , as the day of rest. Not Jewish" idea"..... Gods rules... Like we are commanded to love each other... You do not love people if you lie to them. Steal from them. Murder them.... It's is very simple to love each other. The problem is people justify lies....(Christmas is a lie) and to teach things that are not true is deciving people.

@@erpolaterpolat6054 True. But as language goes, the meaning of the word 'kosher' made its way to American lingua franca to include not just food: "I don't think his story's kosher" ("He's lying"). "The boss says it's kosher" ("it's allowed; no rules are being broken"). "He's not kosher" ("He's got a checkered past"; "he's not who he said he is").

I finally found out the healthy reason for not combining meat and milk. Milk (which contains calcium) combined with meat inhibits the absorption of the iron and the zinc in the meat. So, the laws of kashruth (while articulated in a religious context), are very logical, and are followed not only as a religious observance, but also to maximize one's health. (I suspect that in ancient times, there were individuals with scientific knowledge which could only be expressed to the average person in terms of devotional practices...)

not eating pork has helped me very much. i think that in itself is a big step. not everyone gets bad reactions when eating certain types of meat but pigs are scavengers n are among the dirtiest of meats. if you eat pigs at least know your farmer and that the pig's eating and living well. same applies to cows and birds.

Good luck to them wasting their brain cells on these and conducting their lives around counter-productive and useless rules.

***** It's orthodoxical custom in Judaism to never misspeak the name of the creator. As such, they never address them directly, only by implying the name, so they don't break from the custom. Really, the above post is getting to slightly ridiculous levels, so I wouldn't guess the above person is actually orthodox or Jewish (I'm guessing most of the orthodoxy around today isn't on the internet for various reasons of "temptation")
@cc.jsullivan

Ayala Kelman Sorry if I offended you, I just don't see many orthodox jews out in other parts of the internet, probably because I (personally) am non-religious and don't restrict myself to a particular few subsets of content. Then again, there are probably some other parts of the internet I don't see, but as far as politics, economics, current events, and the like, it's very rare I see opinions from anyone who identifies as an orthodox jew. If I do, it's usually having to do with some instance of defamation or geopolitical issues in Jerusalem. Again, I'm very sorry if you took offense to my statement. But I really don't see orthodox jews in the wider community of the internet or even youtube.

Bbmaddie321 If thats true, then what do you do with all the meat that you didnt eat? You can't sell it if you live in a jewish comunity cuz everyones basicly kosher. Using it as compost seems wasteful aswell cuz why not use the manure from the cows instead of killing it and eating only half of it. If the tora or Talmud say you should only eat half the cow, shouldn't it also say what to do with the rest?
@nokah6511

Ayala Kelman Then where does it go? Can't you give me one solid answer? You can't seriously mean that every kosher family that ever existed in the world either sold what they couldn't eat or gave it to the poor. What would you do if you couldn't do either of those things. Is wasting the food then ok? Is there something im missing cuz at this moment im not seeing the logic here.

Thank you. I was curious about what Kosher means and how it different than Halal. But it's kind of the same. It is judge by how they serve/cook it, what animal/vegetables that can be eaten, etc. Like example Chicken, in Islam chicken is halal but if they cut the Chicken using tazer and not properly cut it in the neck (also not saying Bismillah), it became haram and not halal. Cuz the way they cut the chicken.

+Penand_Paper I'm curious, all those rules and what can and can't be eaten strike me as products of time and place more than something spiritual. Most of those rules strike me as safety for easily spoiled food etc. Only healthy animals is a pretty obvious one or pigs are forbidden to be eaten since they go bad much quicker in the region where Judaism originated not to mention all the shell fish which is sometimes difficult to find out if it's bad. I mean it does kinda make sense don't you think? Especially in that time you had a hard time keeping people on track with such rules if you didn't enforce them with a religious aspect. Interestingly enough those kinda concept can be found in Islam as well, and Islam got big in the same type of climate so they share some of those things (like the pigs) unlike Christianity which got bigger in Europe in a colder climate in which food doesn't go bad so quickly. I don't want to bash you or anything just asking your opinion on it since you practice this kind of stuff.

Look, in Judaism, we do not think the reason why we do a commandment is due to, say, "healthy" benefits, then spiritual. spiritual comes first. If what you say is true, then many kosher things wouldn't. for example, doves would not be kosher due to their easy permeation by heat. If so, why do we do this? Kosher is less like a diet for the body and more like a diet for the soul. When one learns to hold back their cravings, they learn to have restraint. That is why. Now some of the commandment we are given do not have clear explanations, but we still observe them as faithful as always.
@Soap1O
@Soap1O 8 жыл бұрын
Penand_Paper I'm not sure if doves were on the radar at that time. Anyway that's not the point, I was just curious if you could see the connection between some religious rules and the location and time of their creation, from your point of view. Didn't mean to be rude. I ask Christians about their concept of Hell as well. Which interestingly exists in Christianity but not Judaism and if you look at the expansion map of Christianity it first got traction where paganism was practiced and in those area's there was a concept called Hel which was the idea of a fiery pit for the wicked and when a new religion comes to a new region often time local stuff gets incorporated.
@penand_paper5112
@penand_paper5112 8 жыл бұрын
thats fine, i get it. the reason why i mentioned doves was that they were offered up in the Bait Hamikdash. also, hell in judaism is just shame knowing you could have served HASHEM, not really a fiery pit, and the hel of the germanic tribes was cold, not hot, mind you. :)

Not eating meat and dairy together helps extend the supply of more costly food items. Hamburger is nearly 4 USD a pound, and that's some of the cheapest beef you can get. Cheese and milk is going the same way.

Danny Smith It does not. Nowhere does Torah prohibit mixing dairy and meat. That is rabbinic nonsense. Eating unclean animals have been scientifically studied and it agrees with the Torah. So that means the Scriptures is correct and you are not smart for denying the Creator.

Asherah Moral: God: Baruch HaShem! Nothing like eating on Yom Kippur (after a short fast meditating on the illusion of food, the illusion of the necessity of daily eating, the vanity of taste and finally succumbing to it in zen) to make you both appreciate great art (embracing the senses instead of shunning them) and also to remember to enjoy being in a place Where you arent being forced to live by a script or worship a personality but truly just be you... at One means eating and not eating is one. the food will never run out.. you are not in a limited situation.. *kosher* God (mystical) The meditations makes you realize its not food its spiritual energy and it never dies, this sacred appreciation is what elevated us from farm culture and the harnessing of animals (the inner animal self) to dream culture.. letting it all be free allows it to all be abundant and all problems correct themselves.. EVERYTHING IS GOD! Let go of the idea that you know where the food came from, realize your own inner power.. it comes from your dream! Not because you farmed it yourself too logical.. it just comes from your thoughts.. and thats why its infinite. If we think we know where everyone comes from we put them in boxes and miss their truth... if we let stories arise in the now rather than all historical.. we let our heart create what it really needs not just the same problems. There is no farmer there is only a grocery store and God - kabbalah When you eat on Yom Kippur you are saying unlike my ancestors I WILL NEVER LACK IN MY LIFE, I WILL ONLY HAVE A ARTISTIC CHOICE BETWEEN BASIC AND LUXURY

Fun facts: Being kosher isn't rabbinical. The torah is the first five books in the bible. The rules of being Kosher still apply to you even if your Christian or Messianic. Think about this. The rules of kosher are God's(Yahweh) way of saying that these rules will help you keep your body healthy. There is nothing magical about being kosher. From what I understand, its a way of keeping your body as healthy as possible so you can live a good life. Never follow rabbinical books and crap. I only follow the bible. The written book that was inspired by Yahweh.

hey guys, I'm a Muslim, I barely know anything about Judaism. after watching this video I've seen many comment that duck isn't kosher. Can anyone explain why? this video didn't explain why certain types of birds are kosher and some aren't, so I'd really like to know..
@DutchGabbers
@DutchGabbers 8 жыл бұрын
+My Heaven of Books It IS explained in this video.. You CAN eat duck according to this video because it is not a scavenger birds.. Meat eaters in particular would also be included in the not-kosher list because those are scavenger birds.. A duck is not a scavenger bird because it does not eat meat.. But something in this video disturbs me about kosher meat is that animals must have suffered as little as possible and yet it must also be healthy upon death.. Does that mean the animal has to be killed without pre-stunning of the animal? That would be horrible and very painful for the animal!

אבר מן החי דכתיב (בראשית ט, ד) אך בשר בנפשו דמו לא תאכלו ואידך ההוא למישרי שרצים הוא דאתא The prohibition against eating a limb from a living animal is stated in the Torah, as it is written: “Flesh that once had life and blood, you shall not eat” (Genesis 9:4), i.e., it is prohibited to eat flesh. Over the generations, the message has altered and become corrupted and laws are broken, but one must interpret the message in its purest form.

***** No. How else can the earth be cleaned when animals die? That is why we have carnivores that are scavengers and eat dead animals so the earth is clean. In the new earth or new age to come, there will be no death so that will cease. We are in a fallen world because of man's sin.
