I think one of the greatest things I've learned about love is that love is unselfish. You don't get anything out of love. Like Will said, love isn't an exchange. It's an undeserved gift. Love is someone slapping you in the face and you giving that person a hug. It goes beyond fairness and beyond justice but we're afraid of that kind of love because it often gives birth to abuse. It gives birth to hurt and continuous forgiveness. So we settle. We settle for desire and pleasure. We settle for the exchange because there's only so many times you can allow someone to slap you in the face. but the beauty of love is that one day when it's you who's fed up. When it's you who chooses to slap someone in the face and that person reaches out their arms and hugs you. You'll suddenly realise there's someone else out there who's just as willing to love. Just as willing to make that sacrifice. Just as willing to compromise, to listen, to understand and when you find that person then real love becomes worth it because it will never get to the point of abuse and so FEAR is removed.

Everyone wants to be heard, but everybody can't talk at the same time. It's easier for me to consider my own experiences- where people havent listened to me because of my packaging -as a young black woman when luving people + all I want to give them is my attention. I want them to feel seen because I remember what it felt like not be heard, to be looked over. What I'm trying to say is I think that of we as a whole listened to people + gave them the kind of understanding like he said + validation that we would want I think there would be less misunderstanding regardless of the different labels + packaging we possess-the kinds that automatically create communication barriers.
