What is Medical Massage vs. Clinical Massage vs. Orthopedic Massage

To add to the confusion of the medical massage term, I've met people who have taken certification courses in "medical massage" that were actually just courses in trigger point/neuromuscular techniques. Of course, these techniques can be used in medical massage, but they are conflating a specific technique with a broader style of massage.

This clears up a lot for me thank you. I’ve seen illegal “spas” with unlicensed people calling themselves medical massage. There is still much education to be done with the general public on the different types of massage and when/who to book

Whitney, I would love to hear your comments regarding the use and often misuse of the term “Sports Massage”, especially as it pertains to spas and massage chains, and even many private practitioners. In my work as a CMT, I often find that most clients seeking massage don’t understand that this is a term meant to be identified with pre-and post athletic or sporting events.In my experience, even many massage therapists have difficulty explaining exactly what sports massage is. Back in the day it used to be called Massage & Bodywork. I appreciate this video and how informative it is. I notice these terms can be very confusing for not only the therapist but also the consumer. Thank you!
