my self-esteem in high school plummeted so bad because of this. idk if it's because we kept having classes without proper light or that i spent too much time on my phone, but at some point i couldn't see faces or the blackboard and i was often told that i was snobby because i never greeted people first. but that's because i couldn't see who they were at all! i remember crying to my mom to just buy me glasses :(

Here is my story. Hope it helps and provides hope to many. I had stable -1 myopia for over 23 years. End of Jan 2023 I had an episode of "Primary Iridocyclitis of Right Eye". Used steroids and dilation drops. These did not improve but worsened the condition. After three weeks I stopped medications and went to tropical island. Hiked a lot and did eye exercises along with being in the sun all day. After 6 weeks my right eye still was weak and I saw things about 20% smaller than the left eye with glasses. But surprisingly after 7 weeks my right eye got better than left eye. I think now my right eye is near 20/20 maybe -0.25. I stopped using glasses after 23 years. The left eye still seems to be -1. I'm trying to continue exercises and reduce that as well. After seeing many articles about myopia from professionals who say it cannot be reversed I now feel like it can be reversed with a prolonged change in habits. Good luck everyone. Take care.
@ChrisBennett-sj5pm Жыл бұрын
It can be reversed. It takes a change of habits and patience. I will not argue the science with someone because it is not my field. I just know my experience. I wore glasses for 25 years both eyes -2. I could only just read the 20/100 line with effort. Months of going outside focusing in the distance and I can now see the 20/20 in good lighting and the 20/30 line in artificial lighting. Taken me 6 months to get this far. Final hurdle is getting to 20/20 in artificial light. Lots of outdoor time and lots of focusing in the distance.

Last night I tried these contacts (for myopia) that you wear at night. During the night they flatten the eyes so when you take them out you can see clearly. Myopia, or nearsightedness is the condition when a person cannot see distant objects clearly without glasses. Nearsightedness is caused by focusing on close-up objects such as a book or a computer for long periods of time. The result is that the eyes get stuck in the close-up focus position and can no longer focus on distant objects. If we look inside the eye, we can see how this problem occurs. After focusing on close-up objects for extended periods, the focusing muscles in the eyes (which are called the "ciliary muscles") lock up. This results in the eyes becoming more and more elongated. Nearsightedness occurs when the eyes become overly elongated. When that happens, there is no turning back. The eye cannot go back to its previous shape. The ability to see distant objects clearly without glasses is lost forever. What can be done to prevent nearsightedness in a child? The key is to catch the problem as soon as the child experiences the very first sign of any difficulty seeing distant objects clearly such as the TV or the writing on the board at school. Ask the child from time to time if he or she can see distant objects clearly. For example, ask the child to read a distant road sign or a newspaper held up at a distance. If the child is having any difficulty at all seeing such objects clearly, that is the time to act. Don’t delay - otherwise there will be an irreversible overelongation of the eye. Usually, eye doctors will prescribe distance glasses for correcting blurred distance vision. The wearing of distance glasses aids the vision of myopes by bringing everything closer so that distant objects are within the range of focus. Unfortunately, distance glasses actually make nearsightedness worse and irreversible. This is because they force the focusing muscles to stay locked up. This in turn forces the eyes to further elongate, resulting in the need for stronger distance glasses as time goes by. The child is thus doomed to a lifetime of total reliance on distance glasses to see distant objects clearly and progressively worsening nearsightedness. Distance glasses are a false friend. There is an alternative - reading glasses. If a child starts wearing reading glasses for prolonged periods of reading and other close work at the first sign of any difficulty with distance vision, the focusing muscles will relax and cannot lock up. Reading glasses relax the eyes. There should be no further elongation of the eye. Distant objects can be seen without the need for any glasses. It is important to note that the child will not be reliant on reading glasses. They are simply a protective tool that should be used during long periods of close work. If strong enough reading glasses are used, nearsightedness should be prevented. It is important that the reading glasses be strong enough to completely eliminate all focusing effort (accommodation) when reading. Whenever close work is done without the protection of reading glasses, it is important to: 1. Hold the work as far away as possible. 2. Use as much light as possible in order to reduce the size of the pupil and, consequently, the accommodation. 3. Look into the distance frequently to relax the accommodation. What strength reading glasses should be prescribed? The rule of thumb is to prescribe plus lenses that are about 3 diopters more positive than the distance prescription, in other words a +3 "add." If the child is just moving into myopia, he or she might need a +3 lens. If the child is already a -1, he or she might need a +2 lens. This brings the limit of clear vision in to a typical reading distance of 33 cm or about 13 inches. Astigmatism is normally not corrected. It is essential to tell the child that when using the reading glasses, he or she should keep the object far enough away so that it appears very slightly blurred, but still legible. As the eye tries to clear this slightly blurred image, the maximum relaxing force is applied to the ciliary muscle. Can a child just use reading glasses bought at a drug store? No. A professional should be seen to obtain individualized advice. Drug store reading glasses are intended for adult-size heads. The distance between the lens centers conforms to the usual distance between the pupils of the adult head. If such glasses are used by young children, who have a smaller interpupillary distance, the "prismatic effect" of the lenses causes increased convergence. This can cause problems such as double vision and should be avoided. The distance between the child's pupils should be measured when the eyes are converging on a book. The centers of the eyeglass lenses should not be any farther apart than that distance. .

I’m gonna have to go to get my eyes checked again I guess, last time I went they said that I have an lazy eye and that my eye muscles in my left eye are weak. Lately I have been having trouble seeing things farther away from me, constant headaches and my lazy eye seems to be getting worse. I had no idea that “lazy eye” could be a symptom of myopia, so I’m guessing I could be developing myopia..

Lasik can correct myopia by flattening the cornea (making it less steep). This allows the light entering the eye to shift backwards and hit the retina, creating clear visiom

What about natural eyesight improvement like Jake Steiner's approach? There's nothing strange about it. It's like recovering muscle strength while using crutches only we use eye crutches. It's like physical therapy only it's reducing the lens power gradually while keeping healthy eye habits. Search for his videos.

That is why we shouldn't play games for continuous hours each day. Take a break every 1 hr .Short sightness is permanent and gets worst as you grew older.

Refractive surgery is costly. U have to wear glasses or contact lens to see clearly. After a certain age 20-22years it won't increase or increase very slowly.

@@jamesarmecinepe2531 I am not saying it was surely due to gadgets, I said excessive near work is one cause of myopia. #Genetic is another factor: If both parents are myopic. children's have 33-60% risk to develop myopia. If one parents is myopic 10% risk to develop myopia Even if, No parents are myopic still 5% risk to develop myopia.

I have short sightedness and my parents told me the optometrist said it was due to me being a gamer because the optometrist used words I didn't understand but I believe I heard that one of my eyes were oddly shaped, there gonna get it when they find out what you've told me (not in a bad way, I'm just gonna roast em)
@AGENT47ist6 жыл бұрын
Saber 22 I also have short-sighted vision along with astigmatism and I am 23 and it appeared at my 21 and I used to play a lot of games. The ophthalmologist, said myopia has existed before TV and computers even existed. They can't figure out why it happens, but the computer screens or TV have zero effect on that. It has to do with the electrical signals inside the eye that transmit the image to the brain for information and processing. I wear my glasses all day because if I don't I see blurry and I get headache sometimes because my eye tries to adjust. Helps a lot.

Another theory to the cause of myopia is due to spending most of your time indoors. Your eyes are not being exposed to natural light and being indoors you tend to focus on things that are near at you, thus not having to exercise your eye muscles focusing on further distances.

That's only a correlation though, and it could be that it's just genetic. Some genes can be dormant in parents then wake up in their kids

Using myopia glasses just a bit lower/weaker than what u need is enough to help reduce/reverse myopia? The eye see almost fine but force him self on getting better, every time the glasses get good enough, u change for new one just a bit weaker, util u dont need they anymore?
