It's shocking to me that neurofeedback, despite its incredible effectiveness, is not far better known.

My son went through this theraphy in his late 20s and it help him a lot with focus and concentration. He was diagnosed with ADD in his teens.

How long did he do it for? And how effective was it?

They put goop on your head so the electrodes on your head can read your brainwaves then, depending on the program they use, you either watch a video clip where the picture and sound fades out when your brain does a neurological no-no or, if they use DegMed, you have 5 rounds, 4 minutes each, where you watch swimming dolphins, spinning tops, flying spaceships etc and listen to the same 2 piano chords over and over again and the music and motion stops when your brain does a neurological no-no. I prefer the movie format over the monotony of moving objects that are as fun to watch as a hamster wheel.

How can I do this at home?
@squamish42442 жыл бұрын
Certain devices, like NeurOptimal, are entirely self-regulating and can be done from home. Cost of rental for one month is about $1,000 though, and as a beginner you should only use it two or max three times a week, so you don't get your money's worth vs. going to a clinic.

Do they have a readout while meditating? So an individual can see their progress and watch the brain changed
@squamish42442 жыл бұрын
With some systems, yes.

If it is possible can you share the details of this particular experiment, as I am also a researcher in cognitive psychology so I would like to be in touch with the experimenter that's really gonna help me. Thanks Please reply as soon as possible

Advice to potential patients - DO.NOT.DO.THIS. This is a dangerous practice - the way the brain can be influenced and changed is still largely unknown. Despite all the pop science rhetoric, neuroscience is still largely in its absolute infancy. Take it from me - whatever problems you might be experiencing, messing with a bunch of idiots and crooks who don’t know what they’re doing and don’t care, just isn’t worth it.

And what evidence do you have to show neurofeedback is harmful? Its safety has been established by numerous randomized controlled trials, the highest form of scientific evidence. It’s basically technology-assisted meditation: you’re training your brain to focus. This isn’t even an invasive technique. Do you balk at pacemakers?
@squamish42442 жыл бұрын
Neurofeedback has a 60-year history and is well-established. It is safe. Neuroscience is indeed still is in its infancy but not completely, major strides in understanding have been made. I have been helped tremendously by neurofeedback and so have countless people. The studies out there are all small but they are positive. The NFB community doesn't have millions to pour into studies like Big Pharma. Would you rather trust them? Neurofeedback is currently being used by the American military (and Canadian) to treat PTSD in veterans. Should tell you something about its true effectiveness.

except the fact they study their whole lives researching for our own well-being and yet you must be there, sitting on your couch, uneducated and trying to stop others from finding ways that can help them feel better! oh, how ignorance is bliss, right?
