This is a RETRO VIDEO RE-UPLOAD! You are not going crazy if you've seen it. One of my favourite videos to create, this retro throwback took me and Dan an entire day of stop-motion filming to create. I spent a month organizing each scene using sketches and sticky notes before preparing all the cut outs, props, paper, and then gathering the food for the day of the shoot. I love seeing some of my lovely Spudgy in the photos (for those who don't know, he has passed away since then). He was hilarious because he kept creeping over to watch what we were doing and plopping down on the floor beside me. Then he would try to casually eat the onigiri when I wasn't looking! Couldn't blame him, it was on the floor after all!

It would be awesome if you combine a mini stop motion or something else crafty like this in your normal videos. So its not thaaaat labor intense but has this crafty paper feel maybe. Its so cool to see you evolve in your videos.

I remember the little cylinder shaped onigiri balls that my late mother used to make for my 遠足field trips. I thought they were the most delicious thing in the world. My mum was absent from my life most of the time and I was raised by grandma and hired nannies as she was focused on her career, which I now understand was a very difficult thing for a woman in 80’s Japan. She really wasn’t interested in me or domestic work but for some reason she made immaculate bento boxes for my ensoku. The smell of damp nori makes me feel very nostalgic and bittersweet. 🍙

Thank you for the retro video re-upload Martina! It was fun to watch it again ^^ My first onigiri memory would probably be in high school when youtube first started in 2006. I had discovered the channel 'cooking with dog' and wanted to recreate chef's onigiri recipe as it looked so tasty! Also wanted to try it ever since seeing it in Pokemon where Brock always made it :'D

I just love Chef! I followed her instructions on how to make umeshu but I tweaked the recipe to my liking, she's so adorable and of course, I relate a lot to her love of Francis.

It was fun to see it again! My first time eating Onigiri was a few years ago when I moves to the US and I fell in love. I was so happy to find out I lived next to a ramen resteraunt run by this cute old japanese couple. They also had curry and dango! They've since retired back to Japan but the resteraunt workers loved the place, bought it out, and have kept it going.

Not me, but our son.. I still remember when he first ate one around 5. We were struggling to get him to try more foods at the time. One day, while at the local Japanese Supermarket, he asked (out of the blue) if he could try one and also sushi. I swear I saw the clouds open up and the sun shine down upon his head when he had them for the first time. lol He's LOVED them ever since. It was nice to see this video again, I can see how much work y'all put into it!

my first onigiri, i was 13 years old working with my mom at an anime convention in the green room. i was tasked with making food, and this lovely woman taught me how to make the onigiri, we made them together all day and i ate more than a few. since then it became a staple food for me. i remember that day, those onigiri, and that super nice and very proud mother/cook/teacher very well :)

The first time I had an onigiri was in London. Me and my husband was on our honeymoon and visited a big japanese food store in London, where we bought sooo much. Including two different onigiris (can't exactly remember the flavors, but they were good!) We were supposed to eat them at a nearby park, but the rain came and we stood under a half-roof and ate them while the rain was pouring. It was so good and comforting, and filled our bellies a while longer before we could eat dinner! A fond memory!
