I’m a philosophy major at university and Auslan (Australian Sign Language) is my first language. So, at the best of times I find the content I’m given to read VERY inaccessible, although I love the ideas. I’m always looking for different ways to understand philosophical content. The way you animate certain aspects of the ideas you’re explaining makes so much sense to me! Because this is how things would be expressed with your hands in Auslan. For example, the video you made about The Real. More animations of concepts! My small criticism would be that I’d love to see more female philosophers and their ideas offered in your videos.

I tend to be a quiet background lurker, soaking in info but scared to put anything “out there” (even comments) - but you’ve convinced me after watching this video to at least add one here! I’ve been going down a rabbit hole and becoming more interested in the combinatory type of philosophy-psychology. I stumbled on D&G’s books (mainly 1000 plateaus & Anti-Oedipus) and wanted to read them badly, but wanted to build a solid knowledge base first and learned I might need to go through Freud->Lacan to be ready to work through D&G’s stuff. Went on KZbin to see what was available and watched a few different videos before landing on yours on Anti-Oedipus as well as your video on Lacan’s The Real. I had to rewatch the Lacan one due to the difficulty involved in grasping some of it, but I was amazed at how systematically you walked through these concepts, especially while making it so engaging and funny! I can get distracted when format of info is too bland, so your approach works so well for me. I’ve been living all your Lacan stuff, your D&G videos, the ones w/ Derrida, and definitely your Zizek content! Thank you so much for all the time and effort you put into creating these great videos! Question: A) How did you get into this niche world of theory if you didn’t major in it and B) Do you ever think of going back to study it formally to get a degree in it?

For someone who has spent many years soaking in the malaise of mechanical reality wondering if there was really any point to trying to communicate these ideas and theory when we will all become consumed in it anyway, I've come out of the worst years of my life and found your channel and it was like a litte light of hope, that we could still communicate meaning through creativity and play within this machine of infinite signifiers. Awesome stuff man, what I find primarily really great about your channel is that you don't make your videos chronologically and in line with the history of teaching. In most philosophy teaching methods you ought to really begin at the beginning and only with years of time and investment, you gain an understanding of the spectrum of ideas and can freely connect these streams of thought. though hard work is inevitable (especially in philosophy) I find that your videos bring a more direct approach in educating people, a method that really sticks. keep it up man and stay safe.

You always manage to present the content of some, what I would say are, difficult theories so well that someone like me can watch them a few times. Each time I watch, I feel I've gained a little more depth to my understanding, whilst at the same time, I'm aware that I've barely scratched the surface. I'm trying to get other people to watch your videos - I do a tiny little podcast (with maybe two or three people who listen) ... but I kind of like it because it's essentially me trying to explain to a friend what I'm getting from watching your videos (and from reading the graphic guides to folks like Foucault, Baudrillard, Lacan etc). Of course, it's just two blokes rambling on about stuff like a couple of drunks in a bar ... occasionally giggling at the fact that when we reflect on what we're talking about we're like ... oh ... I probably sound like I'm just trying so hard to make a symbolic exchange with my intellectualism ... but then, at the same time, I feel like there's a lot of philosophy youtubers who don't make it anywhere near as accessible as you do. Your dedication to presenting things beautifully makes me somewhat in awe. I'm also someone who doesn't have much time or money (yet, hoping that once we're a few months past the mass vaccinations - I might feel secure enough with my income to become join your patreon - as I'd really like to contribute something in return for all the great stuff you've done). I just watched this video again and thought, okay - is there anything I could give you in regards feedback. Not much really. I listened to one of your recent livestreams and remember you saying that you want to revamp your Lacan videos. Totally respect your reasons for wanting to do that, but also wanted to say that I hope you find a way to take them up a notch, but yet still allow newbies to get what I got out of the original Lacan videos you did. Anyway, keep well. Kevin

For me it feels important to point out that your earlier videos are just as great. The first ones where I got to know the simulacra, simulacrum, constructed desires and the hyperreal are mindblowing to me and they are important cornerstones of my thinking ever since, as someone who studied sociology with some classical learning background becoming a paid blogger (content marketer) with a casual interest in philosophy (I feel you can't really work in the media in any way if you are not familiar with names like Mark Fisher, Nick Land and the theoretical context which you provide, I have also been kind of a Frankfurt School fanboy back in my college years, had the pleasure of seeing Habermas giving a lecture live a few years ago). So, YOU matured and now you feel your earlier work is bad but this sentiment is totally universal with every content creator. I can barely read my 5 yr old stuff (tho it gets better as I get older my style changes slower) Other than that, it's very hard to suggest to change anything because I really like your videos as they are, feels like a close to perfect mix. I'd like to see you dabble with longform maybe, ofc not with the 30 hrs of work / 15 minutes of video ratio. But u kinda do that with the podcast and I haven't yet submerged in that one really. Keep up the great work, Pills!

Really dig the channel man. As a molecular biologist, I particularly gelled with a lot of the Deleuze & Guattari stuff. Would be interested to hear whether you've been exposed to much of the Philosophy of Biology and what I'd consider 'post-modern science' that's been going around? Developmental Systems Theory and Extended Evolutionary Synthesis; Maturana, autopoeisis and the ontology of living systems... All really relevant to the post-human/trans-human themes. There's a whole lot of us scientists who are looking at ways to re-imagine how we talk about biological systems.

I didn't expect this, sometimes I feel like staying in my lane, but I'm pretty attuned to Maturana, Varela, and general systems theory so that should come up again here. For now there's some of that up on the podcast in the deleuze and vitalism episodes

@@PlasticPills that's awesome to hear! With a rise of scientism in public forums and epigenetics, high-throughput sequencing (e.g. sc RNA-seq) and molecular genetics techniques (e.g. crispr) there's a lot of people in the field with renewed or intensified interest in ontology and epistemology.

I think it's important you quote text instead of paraphrasing everything because there is definitely some value in having the author's voice come through. I would be interested in what you have to say about religion, I saw you wear a cross in one video. Would you do a video on philosophy of religion, theology, comparative religious studies? One small bit of criticism, the music you use can get pretty samey but that's just my personal preference.

Our chat got shut down, which sucks cuz I have no idea how else to chat. But why is Mark Fisher so popular? I have read Capitalist Realism, and it was good, but it wasn't overwhelmingly good, and there wasn't much new in there, or that was my interpretation, what is the draw there? is it the clear-cut examples?
@ratfuk93404 жыл бұрын
@@PlasticPills Zero books has lots of videos referring to Fisher. I don't know about other people but I can't read 200 books or whatever it was every year so clear-cut examples are definitely helpful. For chatting Discord is probably the way to go these days. It's gonna be a whole thing to manage though once it gets popular but worth checking out if you're interested in more direct interaction with your audience.

Yea the Pill Pod guys and I all have a discord, but we made it the most expensive Patreon level because we don't have the acumen to manage it unless people are serious about being involved. Although I wish money weren't that filter, I don't see another way to limit it such that we're incentivized to expend that pedagogical energy indefinitely.

@@PlasticPills honestly it was just an easy read with some fair insights... and acid communism to me sounded like a pretty dope idea... this notion that we need to catalyze new ideas by seeking new states of consciousness.

@@splattercatbambi4965 I won't, but my friend (who I did the Art and Memes video with) has a channel called "THE ACID LEFT" that he started last week. Check it out for acid comm

as you requested in video, i'd like to leave my comment here. As a non-native speaker of english, I find some phrase and words difficult. Yes of course, you could use difficult words but not phrase that's specific to local english or easier for native speakers type of phrase. Please use more general or academic english words or phrase.

I've only found your channel recently, and I've added a lot to my reading list from it! Your video on Lacan's real blew my mind. Your visualisations help me understand the ideas enormously - Seeing diagrammatic drawings in motion makes things click in a way few other things do. I assumed your background was in animation tbh! Do you incorporate storyboarding in to your workflow at all?

I really liked your Humanism/Posthumanism video as well as your mindfulness video. You also make great videos about Baudrillard, a thinker who features heavily in my own work. I think some of your animations are a little too distracting and clean for KZbin. It pulls you out even though it looks good. Just keep experimenting, you need to find an overall style that suits your channel identity. When it comes to content you really have rly improved, especially when it comes to theory outside of your comfortzone, which is the marxist/psychoanalysis/Zizek train i guess, (such as the Accelerationism-Video, which has major flaws in terms of accuracy, or the minor Cathedral thing, as i pointed out in my comments before). Look how Zizek & Co deal with reactionaries, you need to understand them to strike effectively. Engage these ideas on their own grounds, then you can dismantle them from the inside or modify them to suit your own beliefs.

Deep thanks for answering the question that I asked. You're right, I came at ACC totally from the outside, did some research, didn't buy it, and probably came off as dismissive of it (which I am). I have decided since then not to make videos about anything I do not believe. Unfortunately, that's the best way to get clicks, but I am not in this for clicks. (for the record, I am neither marxist or lacanian other than being an analysand). Thanks again tho, respectful disagreement is very valuable to me, and doesn't happen much online.

@@PlasticPills You're welcome. I think these misunderstandings about ACC are a result of two problems. There is the fact that it is and has been obscure and the historical distance. You dont have to believe in ACC. In think it is a useful lense to look at our age. Its the same thing as with italian futurism at the turn of the 20th century. A lot of them became fascist, but you can still admire their painting as reflective of their times. I think we all agree that current Land has lost his mind, but prior to NrX he put out some interesting work and inspired others theoretical prowess (such as Mark Fisher, Laboria Cuboniks, Ray Brassier). He has also been cultural influencial as his reactionary ideas have spread over 4chan among those rightwing libertarians. Land might be rediscovered one day when he is no longer embarassing himself and others.

Your videos are quite inspiring. Thanks for working upon French Theory and Post-Modernism in general. It resonates pretty fairly with my academical background. I would love to know if you just edit videos on adobe premiere pro. I have checked you edited a few pictures on after effects as well but nothing more. I am quite unsure which software one ought to have in order to edit highly-artistic videos like yours. Trying to kick off my research channel based on art. Thanks beforehand!
