When I play electric guitar, I have to concentrate on the mechanics of it all, setting up, plugging in, tuning..... then trying to mimic someone else's music. With the flute, I just pick it up and play what is in my heart at the time. I refuse to play songs that are out there because I do not want to brake that spiritual bond I have with it. Yes at times I can hear the flavor of a song come threw, but that is from the connection my heart made with a particular song that is now in my heart. I guess you could say I was inspired by a song, but never the less, not playing the song. You will rarely hear my play the same thing twice...... close, but not the same...... Thanks for another great video!

That is a perfect explanation of the expression. I would add one more thought. When you express your feelings, it acts as a release for your emotions and therefore maybe encourages calmness and peacefulness.

Thanks you Odell ! I received a high spirit flûte as a gift for Christmas and I'm so happy of it ! Just a few days ago I put some of my first try with it on you tube (BLUE CRAZY DRAGON CHANNEL). I'm just a beginner but I like to improvise in nature and also sad or difficult moment that are undermissed in our society can transform in rich and full of sincerity moment through flûte playing; It is magic.

Do you have videos for 5 hole flutes? I wanted a 6 hole, was sent a 5 and well, I am just trying to make it sound the same, but it doesn't.

Did you order a flute from High Spirits Flutes? We sell 6-hole flutes, and most come with a leather hole cover on the 3rd hole from the top so that they can be learned as a 5-hole flute; that tie comes off/on easily so that it can be played as a 6-hole flute. We don't have videos specifically for 5-hole, but in our Instructional booklet, the scales fingering charts are shown with both configurations.

you play with your right hand on the upper holes and left on the lower ones, like i do. But i recently heard from a notable player on line that the left hand should be on the upper holes and right on lower, I started noticing on utube that almost all play do it like this. so i don't know. i don't know if i should put in the effect to relearn to play the flute this way. obviously you have no trouble playing the flute. maybe im just being anal about it. :) Very nice video Odell.

Great observation, Bobby! It makes no difference on what the hand positions are. It is more important to play with what one is comfortable with. Music teachers always insisted on having the left hand on top so that when they taught the class they knew where the students hands were and could communicate more accurately.
