Poisson Distribution : A random Variable X is said to follow poisson distribution if it assumes only non-negative values and its p.m.f is given by,
P[X=x]=e^(-λ) x λ^(x)/x!
Let X be a discrete random variable. Then X∼Poisson(λ) means X takes on a Poisson distribution with parameter λ
Following are Some instances where poisson distribution is used:
1) No of deaths from a disease such as heart attack or cancer or due to snake bite.
2) No of suicides reported in a particular city.
3) No of faulty blades in a packet of 100.
4) No of Printing mistakes at each page of the book.
5) No of telephone calls recieved at a particular telphone exchange in some unit of time or connection to wrong numbers in a telephone exchange.
