Hi, I've watched a bunch of your videos recommending different laptops and 2 in 1 devices for graphic designers (I found them really helpful to understand what to look for), but I couldn't find any review on the iPad Pro. I will be going to uni next fall to study graphic design and they have advised me to get the 2020 iPad Pro but my current computer is dying and I'm wondering if I will need to additionally get a laptop or if I can manage with just an iPad. I would really appreciate it if you could give me some advice on whether or not this is a good decision. What would you get in my place? Thank you in advance!

So to improve performance of your video editing software you need more ram... Does it help to add another ssd? I've noticed that when I start the exportation of a video file, that takes 100% of my ssd and almost all of my ram. Is that normal or it's n anomaly?
@PetersonBlanc4 жыл бұрын
great video, I like the creator breakdown of ram based on your profession. I consider myself to be more of a web designer now, so how much ram based on the use of programs and apps like Photoshop, Dreamweaver and Sketch could you see me needing though?

8 - 16GB of RAM will be great for you! Personally I would choose 16GB.

I just ordered a 16 gb ddr4 crucial. I hope I ordered the right one lol. I have a lenovo ideapad 330s 15ikb. 8gb ram but 4 is removable. I'm pretty sure it's 2400 mhz. So that should give me 20gb's or ram, right? I'm learning video editing and 8 gb struggles with 1080

Hey Benn, some laptops have onboard (soldered) memory and has a 1 vacant ram slot. I just want to ask if I put additional ram, will it run the same speed as 2 ram slots?
@jamwright4 жыл бұрын
The memory would operate at the speed of the soldered memory unless you have a fancy gaming laptop that can overclock the memory. IMO there is no point adding a 3000Mhz stick to match soldered 2666Mhz as it might actually cause complications due to latency differences. It's always best to match the memory (speed, latency, stick capacity). P.S. If the laptop has 16GB soldered on and you add a 16GB stick then you would have 32GB operating in dual channel. Dual channel is much faster than single channel. Adding a 32GB stick to match the 16GB soldered you would have a total of 48GB with 32GB operating in dual channel and the remaining 16Gb operating as single channel. This is not something I would do.

JamWright thank you for the information. For example 8gb DDR4 3200mHz (soldered) + 8gb DDR4 3200mHz SODIMM compared to 16gb DDR4 3200mHz (2x8gb) SODIMM same brand, will the speed run the same?

RAM is at decent prices right now, I just upgraded from 12gb to 32gb. I have an older laptop, Dell Precision M4800 but it's a beast considering how old it is. Immediately noticed an improvement while running my ps4 via elgato/OBS. Excited to see how it improves my video editing with HD video files.

We had 256K total RAM on our first computer, that was for the OS and all applications. It was an Altos 8008 I think it was, 8 inch floppy 20 meg hard drive, one monitor and a used DEC-Writer type thing as a printer, total cost 13K ish. That would be nearly 41K in 2022 dollars. Can you dig the secret inflation tax? No modem until later. We used Kermit for telecommunications with a mainframe in another state.

this is sort of misleading, a pc will NOT need 14Gb of ram just to run the stuff you had open then, it's using it because it CAN not because it HAS TO
