I recently upgraded from 32 to 64gb as I was regularly running out of memory in large 4k timelines. 20-30 minute timeliness with a few hundred chips in so not that massive. Not making whole movies or anything. I do work with hight bitrate 10bit footage for my gh5 and have audition and Photoshop open at the same time to work in the same project. I would suggest that 16gb or ram will quickly not be enough as soon as you need to make a slightly longer timeline.

I use on offline editing workflow, so even it's shot in 4k I'll edit with 1080p. There's really no need to work your computer like that, editing straight off 4k prores or raw. Do an offline edit, and only link back to your original uncompressed footage at the colour grading stage. Your computer then only needs to break a sweat when exporting out the final project.
@shivprakashyadav4 жыл бұрын
How to do that
@cobbsta884 жыл бұрын
Your editing software has to have a pathway to your footage. If you move or delete that footage, your project file is essentially blank. So you work of 'proxies' that you create before hand. As long as you don't change the name of your files, you can pathway your project file to basically any quality version of that footage. So for example, you could have 4k raw footage, but transcode that footage to something like 50% quality 1080p and edit off that. Shelf that original quality footage on a separate hard drive, and once you've finished editing, you can delete those lower quality files. Your timeline will go "offline", until you repathway your timeline to the original footage. Does that make sense?

It does not do well with 60fps or any frames per second at any of the resolutions. I have to do proxies and change playback to 1/2 quality. 4K is kinda weird on my machine. Sometimes it works okay for short videos five minutes or less. I forgot to mention that my laptop has two SSD drives. I don’t know where its bottleneck is.
