Excellent show! I've watched this video several times since you posted it and am simply amazed just how incredible this Hakka style farm-to-table restaurant was you both enjoyed and shared with us. The tour of their operation was just so wonderful, and particularly their frankness and sincerity to even strangers, which I find are the most enjoyable aspects of rural folk throughout East Asia. Thank you so much for sharing this experience with us of that lovely family. Back when I was in college in the 90s, many Chinese families in the U.S. would rent or sharecrop farmland so they could grow their own vegetables and sell the excess in Chinese restaurants and farmer's markets on the weekends for income while Chinese government-sponsored students with all their tuition and rent already paid.

My first experience of "real" Chinese food was in Chengdu and then in the middle of nowhere, Liangshan. But the food was amazing. I miss true Sichuan and Yunnan food so much. All the places we ate were really clean, and even the restaurants that were rundown and old, and they were pretty much picked at random based on where we were and hungry. Also, tofu and eggplant are so well prepared in China, they're absolutely shit in the USA in my opinion.

talking about friendly people. My family are from Bangladesh, whereas, I am from London, everytime I have gone there I have found locals very friendly, inviting me to their homes and eating with them. When I've told my family, that live over there, that I did this, they were angry because they think it is dangerous for me to do that. But locals, especially in rural areas, do not really see many foreigners, and you. accepting their invitation and going means the world to them. They can show you how they live, what they eat, or just have someone to share their experience with. They can also learn how your lives are different. I really do think, this isn't unique to china, but places where tourists don't really come that often.

Great video guys, really enjoyed the last section with the restaurant staff. This looks exactly the sort of place people should hunt out, a restaurant where the staff are proud of their produce and meals. Its places like this family run rural restaurant that China should be encouraging and promoting, a great advert for China. Mind you though, Winstons stroll through the market to the accompaniment of various food sellers hocking-up phlegm would put off even the most ardent food shopper.

Totally awesome little restaurant there - it's really neat how they are going to the trouble to raise their own produce and poultry, coupled with the general cleanliness of the place. These people really care about their chosen line of business. Also, since they can raise a lot of their ingredients, they can save money - a nice synergy when you can find it. Funny thing is, I seldom had any digestion issues in China when eating at mid-range to relatively cheap places... a huge factor in this is the quality and amount of the cooking oils being used... that can be a problem anywhere in the world.

For all of the preoccupation with spitting in China, its fun to watch as so many sanctimonious Westerners, ignorant of their own cultural history, presume to criticize others when they ironically continue to have issues with the subject in the West. Spitting in America - Does Law Enforcement Work? hubpages.com/education/Do-American-Laws-Against-Spitting-Do-any-Good and don't miss: Seattle's spitting image is just that, spitting "Everywhere in Seattle, within a bare inch of your person, is superfluous saliva. In some ways, reminds me of Greece. When I lived in Greece, I could go to these little villages in the mountains, or in the islands, such as Crete, where most people had never seen a foreigner. And they were so friendly, and everybody in the village would come out and all together they would take me to a kitchen and prepare their favorite foods, which always included snails. They really enjoyed watching my reactions to eating snails. Delicious, actually. But they have this wine that they call Retsina ... talk about an acquired taste! Retsina tastes like turpentine, and I couldn't take it at first. Eventually I developed a taste for it.

That was really amazing, loved everything, also skipping the usual call to action of like/comment/subscribe felt good

As a Chinese American, let me tell you something interesting. I used to live in Vermont, a very rural part of America. There was no racial diversity whatsoever. I was like a banana in the milk. I also went to your neighboring country, Zimbabwe, as a tourist. Banana in the ink. People were also very excited to see me when I was in Vermont as well as Zimbabwe. Just like the way these Chinese people responded to you. But can you believe? Even in America, you still have places like Vermont to this very day, where there is hardly any racial diversity at all. Much kudos to that young man trying to speak English to you, by the way, especially according to what he said, he never had anyone to practice English with. Impressive! Wow, you mean to tell me there are still places in China, where people had never seen foreigners?

John Yang Yeah that sounds like Vermont.

Yes, Chinese American. That is the People's Republic of China. If you want a better version, go to Taiwan.

"there are still places in China, where people had never seen foreigners" - yes, check those villages in Guizhou, they hide in the mountains and even the local government can't really keep in touch with them

The Vermont people ask to take a picture with you? Tell them they're too English and walk away. That will teach them.

I wish I could have this experience! The restaurant owners were fantastic! This was so nice to see! Loved this video, especially at the end with the older man having fun with the drone! He never would have had that experience if you guys hadn't stopped there. That is sooo freaking cool!

It makes me smile when I see humans from different backgrounds being kind to each other. For a few minutes it makes me forget just how horrible they can be to each other. Thanks for the smile

I would love to see more of those real live interactions with local Chinese people. Chinese + English subtitles will help to learn the language even faster. Especially because those are unedited unscripted reactions you would not experience in a class room.

Love your attitude with people in general....Not condescending, not fawning over, just nice and normal.... Love your videos!

Guys, I love your channels and I honestly think videos like this is the best content of yours hands down; I wish you made more! I feel like this particular video has just the perfect amount of everything: scenery shots, you talking to each other and the camera and explaining things, food, and of course interactions with locals (which is imo the most interesting thing). Love it! I personally would love to see more videos/talks/interviews involving local Chinese people.

The food at the restaurant you all was eating at looked great and I could eat that so easily and enjoy it. The old man near the end of your video seemed to be very happy with your drone and probably wants one himself. Those people enjoyed having you all there and they gave you the best they had.
