Possible scenarios are actually 4^9 = 262144. Unless you are Dr Strange, the average executive would not be capable of rationally thinking about future scenarios at a level of resolution sufficient to prepare confidently. This is a kindergarten-level simplification of preparing for the future that fits well into cognitive RAM though is a low resolution image of possibility. There can be an algorithm that funnels the larger set based on emergent data. There is also the fact that the future rolls forward and we only track what has contextual meaning to us- so you are always creating new scenarios based on the sliding window and new uncertainties added to the mix as we don't track all possible variables (e.g. meteor hitting earth, Yellowstone errupting suddenly, global pandemic). Still, it's a cool heuristic and I appreciate you taking the time to share. Thank you.
