Years ago I was visiting my sister and her kids, and for a several-day trip, my 11-year-old nephew forgot his phone and only realized 20 minutes after leaving home. Too bad, it was your responsibility -- no phone for you this trip. And I tell you what, he was a terror for the following days. To the point he straight-up stole his sister's iPad and refused to give it back. All so he could play games. And he didn't care who he inconvenienced with his rage. It was withdrawal. I've seen it before in other forms. Clear as day. Now imagine this with customized algorithms designed to keep kids hooked.

I'm sure plenty of parents are concerned, and implement sensible restrictions for their children. It's just that with modern day population sizes, even minority demographics of poor and neglectful parents still equal massive numbers of children affected. Allowing these statistics to eat away at you and compel you to spout catastrophising hyperbole is one of the toxins social media injects into us.

I think Lammy is in his position because he knows things about the Corbyn period and is one of the 'old Labour' people that were there before 2010. I am a labour voter, but I'm not very keen on Lammy. Or Wes Streeting for that matter. Labour are far from perfect but they make the tories look like a pathetic joke and make Reform look like utter clowns. The best thing that could possibly happen to this country is for the Lib Dems to become the main opposition to a Labour government that isn't pandering to the far right all the time. The lib dems seem to be the only grown ups in the room every wednesday at Prime Ministers questions lately! I'm happier with Labour in office than I was with the tories in office, but we have a long way to go - and social media is NOT helping!

My daughter was fairly contented and focused, as soon as she hit "big school", that changed, after a couple of years she was overwhelmed and extremely anxious. She tuned out, before she was academically gifted with a questioning mind. She had a phone with parental vigilance for the first time when she started. And we talked openly about many things. I think social media and phone use in general has enabled negativity and manipulation.
