Thank you for this video! My daughter (14) is over sensitive and just started homeschooling last school year. Love all your tips and explanation. She loves to wear headphones as much as possible and brain breaks are a must. Also, her dog is a huge help, playing with her and petting her throughout the day.

Thank you so much for this content. My oldest boy (not yet 6) has shown major signs of this and I feel I’ve really let him down. We’ve- incredibly- found a private Christian OT that we’re hoping to see in the New Year. This is a big thing for us because for years we’ve struggled with denial, mistrust of the system, and conflicting advice from Christian’s. It’s been a really rough time but I hang on God’s grace that He can correct mistakes and help us.

From a therapist that reads the dry books and attends the boring CEUs about all of this, you did an amazing beautiful job bringing this information! I much prefer your half hour explanation of SPD than the 3 hour or more CEUs about the same subject! (There are some good ones, the best are those taught be therapists that can bring video examples or actually think about their audience’s learning style - therapist typically don’t sit still themselves, we will and do fall asleep if you teach us traditional classroom style!!!)

Thank you so much for this! I have four children, 6 and under, with special needs, this is my first year trying to homeschool all of them, there were so many great tips here, thank you!

Your children are very blessed that you have this knowledge and awareness of SPD and how you can help them through both life and education. I was homeschooled and one of the reasons my parents took me out was because I had SPD and the school didn't know how to handle that. But we didn't know it had a name either. Back then kids with sensory issues were just weirdos who couldn't fit in and it took my whole family a long time to figure out how I learned best and how I could interact in the outside world as me. I was in my late 20s before I was finally diagnosed. I'm now an advocate for children with these invisible challenges. Videos like yours touch my heart! Thank you.

My over responsive kid needs the tools for under responsive and my under responsive kid does best with the over responsive tools, highlighting once more that no two SPD individuals are the same. Brains are so complicated. White noise machines or small desk top fans are a good option for kids that can't stand having things over their ears. During morning time, there is always at least one kid with a dog on top of them. It's a great alternative to weighted blankets. Use what you've got, right.

My little one has a meltdown over certain noises like toilets flushing hand, dryers in public restrooms and on certain days not every day I could even be over the sound of running water. He is three and a half. Would that be too soon to have an evaluated sensory processing disorder?

No, i would ask your pediatrician for a referral or recommendation. It's always good to seek out advice and tips to help them.

Hi! A spd kid speaking here! :) I used to cry for that type of stuff too but some tools to help are, ask him/her/them how they feel when they are overstimulated!also Mabye get them some tools, fidget toys are amazing for me!! And when going out Mabye get noise cancling headphones to make it less overwhelming for them! Also sun glasses help, ty and bye bye!😊
