I am not wealthy but I retired debt-free at 45 (we were always on a single income), and now my family lives on passive income from investments. That’s the only visible indication to people that we “may be” comfortable. In all other things we are pretty much the poster people for frugality. When I retired, people were surprised as to how these modest people can afford to not have employment any longer 😄

We have the opposite. We had a ton of equity when we sold CA house. Because of it, we got to move into a neighborhood that was inconsistent with our income in Indiana. I think for a couple of years we were probably the poorest people in the neighborhood. Neighbors would be talking about the mongo expensive birthday parties they were throwing for their kid, and we would head back to the house for bean and rice bowls for dinner. Income came up quite a bit but we still go on the cheap for a bunch of stuff. Why not?

What’s considered wealthy? It’s all relative. Most of these stealth wealthy people don’t think they are wealthy. I think that’s why they aren’t showing off because they are still afraid of running out of money. This same concept is why they have money- they saved and were smart about spending. They might have a few million and statistically that is pretty well compared to most Americans but they are looking at people like the Kardashians and Pelosi and feel like they aren’t rich. I’ve learned over the years you can’t really get a good idea how much money someone has by looking at their homes, cars, clothes, or vacations.

I don’t understand why they don’t have this already. It isn’t that difficult. They could call it ‘every not-dollar’ and it would just cover everyone (except other dollars, I guess). I think it’s because they’re a very pro American company. I’m not saying that’s bad at all, just that my perception is they’re only interested in being successful in the States. Nowhere else is really on their radar. A bit like in The Boys when Homelander didn’t like to be (and I’m paraphrasing here because I can’t remember the exact line) ‘World’s Greatest’ superhero and made them change the line in the advert to ‘America’s greatest’. Or something along those lines. I always get the same feeling with the Ramsey guys.

The meaning behind "Travel light and keep it simple" is missed here. When you are stealth-wealthy you travel often enough to know what you need and are aware of the hassle of bringing too much stuff. We have only bought one new car in our lives. We have zero mortgage payment and zero car payments and no debt. We have investment accounts worth millions and no, none of it was inherited. Having raised up to $325,000 from trading with her, I bought here in Russian a new house and a new car, and also paid for my son's (Oscar) surgery. Praise God Shalom

Trading without a professional guide... Hmm, I laugh at you because you will stay where you are or even suffer huge losses that will prevent you from trading, this was one of the biggest problems for new traders.

Nah, i want to be rich like Americans too. They live in a 3,000 sqft home , drive a V8 truck and smile with paper white teeth.

That’s a typical middle class family :)

@LifeandLifeMoreAbundantly I can only afford paper white teeth. That kind of house costs 25M U.S dollars and V6 truck costs over 200,000 U.S Dollars. So we live in shoe box apartments and take public transportation in Singapore.

I have an £560,000 portfolio from my old job and retired six years ago. Lately, it’s been doing poorly, with only 6% growth in the past three years and I feel stuck. I desperately need to revamp my investments. Any advice on what to do with my money would be greatly appreciated.

Same old advice. Check what funds you are invested in. Make sure it's stocks & shares. Not bonds & cash. There was a large increase in the markets at the start of this year. Mine went up just over 10% in a few months.
