In her book The Age of Surveillance Capitalism, scholar and sociologist Shoshana Zuboff posits a detailed examination of the unprecedented power of surveillance capitalism, by which our personal information, monetized and exploited by big tech companies, is then used to predict and shape our behaviors. In this frank and necessarily lucid talk, Zuboff defines the terms of surveillance capitalism as a new economic system, pioneered at Google and later Facebook, in much the same way that mass-production and managerial capitalism were pioneered at Ford and General Motors a century before. Zuboff speaks urgently to our need to protect ourselves in this unprecedented age, and not try to resist or strike in the ways we did a century ago. Google, Amazon and now fallen behemoths like Cambridge-Analytica aren’t going anywhere, but as Zuboff expansively demonstrates, we can create countermeasures to stave off the monopolistic workings of these companies.

Well I remember reading somewhere a couple months ago that when judges are about to render a verdict often what they have first before them is a report on what the chances are that a person will likely offend again , or can be rehabilitated based on stats that can be very prejudicial and not only unfair but downright and totally wrong ... this is really scary stuff . O

I understand what she's saying and thought about the historical limits of her investigation in relation to democracy. The measures she proposes are a reactionary utopia since no Law have been able to stop capital accumulation process, the law of value continues functioning... Including the political domination of the bourgeoisie

Productivity is higher and higher. In developed countries. Less than 1% works in primary sector, 24% industry now, the rest is services, amd a new one sector the so called forth dector (invesrogation and information) is growing cause its the most profitable of all. To me is a natural develope of capitalism and therefore final phase. Manipulating and making the "people" the product can only be the last one. Many people will suffer emotionally from this. Something after will come that no one knows.

hey im actually writing a paper on productivity and innovation, do you happen to have any sources on these claims? The last paper i read mentions we are in another exponencial paradox, our tech that we developed for this decade is not giving the same or greater productivity results as in the 70-90s era.
