What is Switch Bounce and How to Debounce - ATM | Digi-Key Electronics

Switch bounce or “ringing” can cause some serious issues with connected circuitry. Logic or digital circuits view this mechanical bounce as the switch being engaged multiple times in very short succession resulting in unreliable input data. Using various external components, switch bounce can be overcome before the signal reaches data collection points. Latch and RC debounce circuits are demonstrated in this video.

What about a Schmitt-Trigger fror debouncing a switch signal?

That works for small amplitude noise, but switch bounce tipically goes all the way to +V and GND.

The input to a PLC needs to be debounced. Otherwise a software debounced timer, so a strong 500 milli second input is only what is accepted. They also can consider a hardware debounce electronics also if they have the electronics mind to.

SR latches are complicated enough without careless errors. You can't make an SR latch with two AND gates as shown at 1:35.
