This colder weather definitely requires extra layers for warmth. Watch and see what Tom has pulled out of the collection that should warm you up just by watching!

I live in Edmonton and I can clearly remember the Police foot patrols wore these coats right into the middle 60's when it was decided that all police would be using cars. My Father, who could be a bit mischievous at times (some would say he was a shit disturber), once pulled a stunt on some American relatives, who my Father didn't like, up from the States to visit in the dead of winter. They were out for a drive one night when my Father spotted two beat cops in their coats and fur hats and told his guests that those were city bears and they won't hurt anyone. Now the street lighting was pretty poor in that area so he stopped and said he was going to go over and check on the bears and make sure they were alright. Apparently the relatives were aghast at the very thought of getting out with the bears but before they could say a word my Father was out of the car and walking towards those two officers. When he got close enough, he told the foot patrol what he was doing and they laughed and said, "Send them over. We would like to talk to them." (Cops were far more human in those days.) So my Dad went back to the car and convinced the visitors that everything was perfectly fine and would the like to go and see for themselves. At first it was no way but when the old man said he would go with them they took the bait. Now it was very dark where they left the car. they proceeded to walk towards the cops very slowly. They were around ten feet away when to the two cops threw there arms up in the air and growled like a bear might. My old man laughed like hell and thanked the officers with a ten dollar bill (which they refused) and a handshake. The relatives were picked up about a block away and they knew the had been had. There was not a sound on the trip home and they left the following day. We never heard from any of the American side of the family again.............

As for history, the Natives would drive entire herds of Bison off of cliffs and then go down and select the choice cuts that they wanted and leave the rest to rot in the sun. The mass farming of Bison wasn't just a settlers issue.

You need to be careful, products labelled Buffalo Leather is in fact, Water Buffalo from Asia. Bison Leather, is from Bison in North America. While they are interchangable to the average joe, they are not interchangable in the leather industry. Something I just learned in another YT vid from a Bison Leather Manufacturer.

It's an unfortunate thing. The qualities of the leather are also vastly different.

Can Buffalo "fur" even be considered fur? Because the number of arguments people have made distinguishing sheepskin (wool) from like rabbit skin (fur) have driven me to but the brink of insanity.

buffalo fur is fur, not wool because it's made with the skin attached. fur has the skin attached (sheepskin is sheep skin with the fur attached so it's fur not wool) is different than wool which doesn't have the skin

@@francisfishing4913 not true. Sheep "fur" is considered wool because of the hair texture and its tendency to interlock. It's a fucking stupid distinction and I completely agree with your assessment. We need to call it what it is - fur. And I'm not even an anti fur guy.

@@varun009 wool is called fur when it's labeled "shearling", i think this is partially so anti-fur people don't get mad at sheepskin boots. but "wool" can also be used for non-curly shaved hairs like dog and cat fur that are knitted. I'm a licensed fur dealer and most people seem to be very confused that fur is not shaved, it comes from killed animals.

@@francisfishing4913 ahh! That makes a lot of sense! Thank you for the insight!

You're getting into petty minutia. Sheepskin/shearling is still really fur but cleaver marketing helps set it apart.
