Frampton's guitar playing is outside the box for a rocker. His note choices and the chords he implies have a lot of jazz influence. No one else solos like him. But anyway - what charisma! An amazing performer.

Frampton has a video on YT of him using the talk box and explaining how it works while demonstrating. It's pretty cool. You should check it out. I remember listening to this song in school during lunch everyday. We had a juke box in the cafeteria at my school (it was a loud one) and we listened to this song, Free Bird and some Led Zeppelin everyday during lunch. Wow, the memories. Wish I had a time machine...lol.

Frampton's double live album is one of the best selling of all time. I believe it was over 8 million copies sold when it came out in 1976. If you want to see another side of Frampton, check out I'm in You, Lines on My Face, Show me the way, Baby I Love Your Way. I'm in You & Lines on My Face-beautuful songs. B4 he went solo, check some Humble Pie songs (a band he was previously in) such as 30 Days in the Hole & Black Coffee. It's a corrupt organization, but he FINALLY got inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame a couple mo's ago. He has a disease he's battling called IBM which affects the muscles so he has to walk w/a cane. He got up there at the podium & ended it with "kindness is king." He's on a trial drug that is slowing the process & he's been able to tour. Like he says, as long as his fingers still work, he's happy. He's truly legendary. Thank you for this reaction, please check out some of the other suggestions.🙏❣Thank you MD!!!

PART II 😁 SO the Talk Box effect has been around since 1964 and brought to light by guitarist Joe Walsh. It wasn't the first, but it was the first to get a lot of attention. People had been experimenting with various devices since 1939. Iron Butterfly, Stevie Wonder and Jeff Beck used "The Bag" in the early 70s. Bob Heil made the first real talk box that could be used in a live rock show in 1973 for Joe Walsh. Frampton got his in 74.

Another great reaction! That's a voice or talk box he's using. "A talk box (also spelled talkbox and talk-box) is an effects unit that allows musicians to modify the sound of a musical instrument by shaping the frequency content of the sound and to apply speech sounds (in the same way as singing) onto the sounds of the instrument. Typically, a talk box directs sound from the instrument into the musician's mouth by means of a plastic tube adjacent to a vocal microphone. The musician controls the modification of the instrument's sound by changing the shape of the mouth, "vocalizing" the instrument's output into a microphone."Wikipedia

The guitar he is playing was bought off a fan after a "Humle Pie" concert and it became his #1. In 1980 the plane carrying all the equipment crash in south america. It was thought that all had been destroyed, but as it turns out the guitar survived and somehow made it way to the island of Curacao and was in the possession of someone for 30 years, until a guitar collector on vacation spotted it and it was returned to Pete in 2011.

@@diverdown631 Without getting technical, yes, but as it was explained to me, it was the talk box that begat the Articulator which is combined with autotune. To be fair, I can't think of an example where the OG talk box was used to improve/enhance anyones voice. It's an effect. Like a guitar pedal that lets the instrument and voice sort of merge, yes?

If anyone really wants to get a good idea of the music in the 70's of every style, look up videos from the show the Midnight Special. A really amazing late Saturday night tv show with everyone that was anyone in the 70's was on and live. Even then they liped synced, but not here, it wasn't allowed. Had to be live and you better be up to it. Every style of Rock, Funk, Soul, R&B, Pop, Disco, everything. It was a great show, you never knew who was going to be on. They easily could have had Black Sabbath and Minnie Ripperton on the same night. It was like that. Every audience got a chance to hear something they might not normally hear Music in the 70's and late 60's was just like non other and will never be this good, new and raw again.
