Nice take on it Russel, you nailed it. Class of 78" here. I went to a concert on this tour. Day on the Green, 1977 Oakland Ca. Kids came in from all over the Bay Area, the crowd was huge. Everyone was in a happy, fun mood. It was an even mix of guys and girls. Everyone was into Frampton. We were packed so tightly up front, we could barely breath. Just a ton of sun, pot smoke, long hair on everyone and halter tops. I remember Peter talking a lot in between songs. For so many cities, this was easily the event of 1977.

I'm a summer of 69 baby. I remember Peter Frampton playing this song on Midnight special. My African American dad listened types of music while working on his car. I remember so many 70s musicians. James Taylor, Eagles, Frampton, and Rolling Stones. That's when live music was real and the best!!!

You both have to react to the live performance to see how incredible this performance really is with his guitar playing and using the talk box through his guitar when it’s mostly used with a keyboard, this is 76 with no computer even thought of back in those days to generate the sound. His pure love of what he does shows through the live performances. Baby I love your way, is another one of his songs and you got to do live to see his joy and the love everyone has for him and his music. He is in top ten of guitar players Rolling Stones Magazine. I still have this album in vinyl in my collection because I'm that old. I danced around my bedroom with this album playing on the stereo, blasting, back in the 1970s as a teenager. We were so lucky back then to have such great music every day, on the radio, playing long tracks. It was a golden time.

Saw him in 1977 in Philadelphia. 91,000 people. He is awesome, even at his age now. This album was one of the best selling albums. All he wanted to do was play guitar, not sing. But man did he produce an awesome, exceptional album. Watch him on the Midnight Special. You can see him perform it.

The strange noises you could hear was a voice box that's attached to the mic that runs straight down into is electric guitar. So he basically could play is voice through the guitar.

Doesn't that description have the danger of making it sound electronic when it's not? The guitar is plugged into the Talk Box like an amp. Except instead of amplifying the sound wave and then transmitting it out as a pulse from a large speaker for all of us to hear, it only amplifies it a bit and then sends it as a tiny set of pulses down the hollow plastic tube that leads to his mouth. As he plays, the guitar sounds then emerge from the tube in his mouth just as the vibrations from our own vocal chords move into our mouths to be shaped by our lips and tongue into words or other sounds. So the sound wave from the tube replaces the airflow from our throat and vocal chords. After that, the mic picks it up just like it's his voice.

That not how that works. The talk box is a small low powered amp and a small speaker in a box. When you turn it on, it mutes the guitar signal going to your main amp. the sound from little speaker in the box is funneled into a long clear plastic tube, which is taped or zip tied or what ever to the mic. You put the end of it in your mouth, and attempt to form words while playing notes, (it ain't easy) and its picked up by the microphone. Before the talk box, there was "the bag", same exact thing, but in a bag slung over your shoulder. Stevie wonder had one of the first ones, Jeff beck got one shortly after.

Graduated high school at 17 in June 1973. Did not know anyone who did not own this on vinyl when it ruled the air waves. Talk about a period for music. We've seen a lot of different genres but the 70s tops anything that has come along since.

I saw Peter do this song at the L.A. Forum in 1977. Frampton played a guitar solo, then a piano solo, then a drum solo in the same song… a 30 minute version of this song….AMAZING

Hard to explain to young people just how epic these concerts were back in the 70's and 80's. And these monster artists were playing concerts here virtually every weekend. I think the last Day on the Green I attended in the 80's was pretty expensive though; if I remember correctly it was $16! So glad I grew up in this era!

"Frampton comes alive", was the biggest selling album in 1976. And one of the biggest selling albums ever. I had the 8-track and then the cassette. Then of course, the CD. Still got it. Keep up the great job you two!

That was a good reaction brother man and sister this band rocked our socks January of 76 if i close my eyes im at my friends house and we in his very smokey room, we couldn't stop listening to this album and it's only intention was to make you roll one up close your eyes and fall right into the music, in my opinion this album and bostons first are definitely in the top 10 albums of all time and for me possibly top two and as i said just as we're coming into the fall of New England here comes Boston,oh its going to be a great winta lots of jibber's lots of red choking hash under a glass great reaction you guys love this album still one of my favorites God-bless keep spreading the music❤

This album came out during my junior year of high school and everyone went out and bought it (I think I still have mine). I was fortunate enough to see Frampton play a few times with Ringo's All-Star Band. Ringo Starr (Beatles) has done many tours where he had several other top-tier musicians playing with him including Peter Frampton and Michael McDonald. The cool thing was that they would play Ringo's hits like, "It Don't Come Easy", "Photograph" and "Act Naturally" but they also did the guest players' hits like this song for example. It was very cool.

Everybody had this album on their turntable in 1976, got heavy play on the FM stations. It was huge! This is one track you might like to watch a live performance of. Others at the time had used the talk box (Joe Walsh on 'Rocky Mountain Way" for example); but Frampton was a master at it. That's one reason the crowd was so stoked.

Frampton Alive was one of the best live albums out. He uses the squeak box to make his guitar talk. The same way Joe Walsh is known for it and on the R&B side Roger Troutman of Parliament Funkadelic.

DUDE!!!! I love love love this song! In 1976 I was 17 and I joined the USAF the next summer. 1976 was THE summer we all remember. This song came on every morning as the sun was coming up. And when I was leaving the parties I heard it driving home for a month. This song says who I am. Do you feel like it do? We have casinos and legal medical marijuana here in Oklahoma.
