What is the best software for music production?
You may have asked yourself the question, like i did.
In the video I’ll discuss some things that can help you choosing your DAW
[2]
What is the best DAW?
The answer to that question may surprise you.
[BUMPER]
[3]
Welcome back, how are you doing? Marvelously well.
If you are new consider subscribing.
[4]
I want to give a shoutout to Pianogy for a very insightful comment in my video about RAM for music production.
He basically said that sampled instruments are taking up more memory than non sampled synthesizers
Thank you for that comment
Also If you can add something useful to the video for other viewers, don’t hesitate to do so in the comments
[5]
What is the best DAW?
I’ll start with the question answer it immediately.
The best daw is the daw of your preference where you can work the quickest and most comfortable with.
I can’t tell you which DAW to use, but I can give you some guidelines and examples on choosing the best DAW for you.
[6]
Don’t listen to anyone else who says you need to work with ….
Every DAW has its strengths weaknesses.
I can’t tell you which DAW is the best.
If there was one DAW that was the best for everyone, everybody would use it.
[7]
There are a couple of different DAWs out there.
I will name a few, starting off with the bigger ones:
FL Studio
Logic Pro X
Ableton Live
Pro Tools
[8]
Less famous are:
Studio One
Reaper
Cubase
But there are other DAWS out there
[9]
FL studio started out as Fruity Loops.
In 2018 they released a Mac version. So it is available on Windows and Mac.
FL studio has a bit of an image problem, because a lot of producers don’t take the software seriously.
FL studio does things differently and that’s why a lot of people don’t like it.
It has also the image of being free, but I have yet to come across a legal free version.
To be honest I have never tried the software, so I cant really say much useful about it
But when I look at the price of the full version, 900 euro, I think you have better alternatives for less money.
flirp

Cubase is a complete DAW for any type of music style. It's user freindlyness and main window's all in all editing make it the most useful DAW for the professionals. If you want unlimited options for music making then Reaper is the solution. But it's learning curve is a bit steep. First give some time to learn the basics of Reaper. After a while you will love it . The options i reaper are unlimited for a minimum price one could afford.

The Logical Editor in Cubase lets you perform operations on whole tracks and objects in a Cubase project in one clean sweep! For example if you want to lower the velocity of all the hi hats in a midi drum track without changing the velocity of the other drums you can do it with a few clicks instead changing them one by one!

Well, I dont really use them regularly but here's what I can say : *LMMS* lmms.io/ is a kind of Fruity Loops I would say and you have *Ardour* ardour.org/ who is close to Cubase, the two are Open Source and multiplatform. _Pros :_ they feel like classic DAWs. _Cons :_ learning curve (not sure ;) ) Next to these you have another approach with the _Trackers_, coming from the 80's/90's on Atari and Amiga. The best one IMHO is *Renoise* www.renoise.com/ (not free but not really expensive and the demo version has quite the full capabilities) and *MilkyTracker* who is totally free milkytracker.titandemo.org/. These two ones are multiplatform. Many other trackers exist. _Pros :_ easy to learn at first time, if you like the tracker format. These softwares are very light and *can be executed on old or small machines*. _Cons :_ The interface can feel very small at first sight. Hope this helps ;)

Well I believe that musicians can choose whatever works for them . But there is a DAW that is the mother of all DAWs. That is Steinberg's Cubase! If you are talking about the least weaknesses, then Cubase has no weaknesses at all. The company behind Cubase is innovative too. They created the VST technology that most DAWs implemented now. in pro tools for example you cant move a note up/down an octave until now. but Cubase had that feature back in 1985 when it runs in the Atari St computers. That is so funny. Cubase doesn't set the bar but it is the bar! Now you can compare among all other DAWs. lol!! I can provide you with tons of examples on why Cubase is the best and the most comfortable to use. Frim hardware integration to update reputations.

This is true, however, I also believe it hasn't entirely been keeping up with its competition due to a bad look and overpricing.

@@vuraxis953 Cubase can be changed so you see or do not see left, right, upper or lower panels, and can be modified via color as you prefer it. You can take a snapshot of any VST even non cubase related ones and that will be the graphical image you interface with on the rightmost panel. There is pricing in Cubase for each type of musician: free versions that come with hardware, Elements which is an entry level for under 100 dollars, Artist Version which is designed as a mid tier version for composers and home studios with less total tracks. Pro is designed with no limitations in terms of tracks and has exceptional editing tools such as Variaudio which allow one to modify audio in the same way as one can modify MIDI data. As it was the first DAW and created the VST standard, this omission in makes the review lacking in objectivity.

I have Live, Logic and ProTools (the free crap version which is totally useless although I used to use an earlier version back in 2005ish but it as always a pain in the neck). I find I spend most time with GarageBand because the workflow is really fast. It also uses all the Logic loops and plug-ins and Apple seem to spend more time on GB fixing problems than on Logic. My friend uses Live exclusively and works as fast as I do, but every hour or so he ends up messing something up because its hard to get a clear overview of what he's doing.

Jumping back into the the "Choose a DAW" world after about, well I knew what fruity loops was sooo, a long time. For me, I went with Studio One as well. Even with using it to record 2-4 live instrument tracks, 16Gb has been good so far. The quality of life of having the search library through Splice and the fact the professional version comes with Melodyne was more than enough to get me to try it. Also 14 day free trial and they have a rent to own method for those of us that dont have the initial funds to outright spend 5-600 bucks.

I agree with you on ALL the issues you said about Logic. It's very annoying. It's like chasing your tail. You fix the annoyance and it comes back. However, it is a very intuitive program. Frankly, it's beautiful. But fixing those annoyances would really make Logic truly unbeatable. Really, how much more memory do I need on my Mac for Logic to continue stopping. I already have 64 GB of RAM.

I think not all of these DAWs are great for beginners. They are pretty complicated and overloaded with features that beginners have no clue what they even do. I tried most of the DAWs from the video when I first started out and even though I was a musician for 10 years (electric guitar - so I know what effects do for the most part) I was completely overwhelmed by all the crazy menus and buttons and cryptic symbols. In my opinion beginners should start with - Garage Band (Mac only) - Stagelight - FL Studio Mobile -(and maybe Reaper, because it's inexpensive?) -->Reasons: They all have beautiful and intuitive touch interfaces (except Reaper). That make mixing and producing actually fun! They have just the essential features but still enough instruments/plugins/effects to make good music. Linkin Park for example used Stagelight. And lastly: They are free and/or very cheap. Personally, my favorite and the one I stuck with is Stagelight. It's so easy and intuitive! It's on every platform, it's mostly free (you have to spend 50$ to unlock VST plugin support on Windows) and it has everything you need.

I'm torn between FL studio and Bitwig. The live style effect racks of bitwig are really intuitive to me but FL has a large user base and lots of resources for learning. For a decent version (producer edition) FL is much more affordable also. I wish someone would compare the lower cost editions as a starting point because the functions that differ between these and the full versions can often be the difference between being able to achieve what you want and not

FL studio is pretty strong, but... Abelton Live looks like Blender's old interface...which was sort of bad. Pro tools is just way too pricey. Studio One looks just WAY too big and convoluted...which can be okay, if you’re into that... CUBASE is starting to look mighty friendly.

Also, please be aware that the *Full* version of FL Studio is actually 250 EUROS. @BoDiddly 5 жыл бұрын
@@DexxterClarkMusic ~ 1) Qtractor is a full fledged, Opensource, Linux Native DAW. You can record and edit audio and midi just like any other DAW. Like most audio on Linux, it uses the JACK Audio connection kit to route signals to/from software and devices. It supports LADSPA, DSSI, Linux Native VSTi and LV2 plugins. 2) Ardour is also a full fledged Opensource DAW, but works on Linux, MAC and Windows. It has been around much longer than any other DAW on Linux, so it has great community support and is more polished. You can use it's internal signal routing, or the JACK Audio connection kit. It supports AU, LV2, LinuxVST and LADSPA plugins. 3) Reaper is a full fledged DAW that is native to Windows and MAC, but they recently released a Linux Beta version. It is commercial software but comes with a Trial, $60 and $225 version. 4) Reason is not really a DAW, more like a Synth Rack like Caustc. You basically have a mix rack with a work area to load plugins and patch them together. It is commercial software currently at $299 or rent to own. I would provide links to these, but KZbin won't allow it in comments. You can google the names of each to find their webpages respectively. with Reason, you have to google "reason daw". You can also find many youtube videos about each.
@BoDiddly
@BoDiddly 5 жыл бұрын
@@DexxterClarkMusic ~ I forgot to mention, that If you are running some flavor of Debian linux like Ubuntu, Ardour installs when you install the Ubuntu Studio package or KXStudio Package. You can install Qtractor from the Ubuntu Software Center or whatever software installation program your linux version uses. I use Kubuntu with the KXStudio package. KXStudio comes with Cadence (to control JACK) and is much easier to use and understand than the standard JACK QJackctl program. KXStudio also installs some other programs that Ubuntu Studio doesn't, that I find useful like Catia (used to patch signals) and Carla (used to manage sessions). If you don't use KXStudio, you can install Patchage instead of Catia.

Dexxter Clark Music you are right BUT it depends on the smarts of the person. Imagine if you had started with reaper. Yes, it might have been tougher than another but after a year using it or another, you would be better to have gone through the learning curve. I think there are more young people trying their hand in music production who have no chance because they simply don't have the ear and/or the natural aptitude. I don't mean they are stupid. It's about natural ability. Some people find astrophysics easy but struggle with cooking. Again, I agree with you in one sense but I think it matters what your goals are; to have a hobby or a career. It's not likely that anyone can be a successful producer using GarageBand.
