The Nitecore P23i is my go-to for self-defense tactical lights under $99. 3000 lumens, dedicated strobe button adjacent to dedicated instant turbo tailcap switch, 468m throw, hammer strike steel bezel.. everything you need in tactical light.

My favourite is the Malkoff Bodyguard. Reasons - Unbeatable durability - I use a usb c rechargeable battery - Always on high. Steps dowm after 8 seconds to a usable 250 lumens for hours that can be used for search and rescue purposes. - pocket clip is amazing, fits in my pocket and i dont feel it at all. Surprisingly slim. - the beam is superb.

Yeah 😒. It's getting worse and worse. Germany ist this same. I don't understand that at all, here in EU buying, owning and God forbid being forced to use pepper spray is more regulated than firearms in USA and many other countries. It wasn't like that even a few years ago. I will not go in to politics but taking away tools and rights to self defence from normal people isn't a good idea at all and its smells authoritarian af. In my humble opinion.

In the UK the only item you can legally carry for self defense is a rape alarm. You are allowed to carry a flashlight, but not for the purpose of self defense. So if an officer notices that you have one, or if they do a random stop and search and finds a tactical flashlight, he's going to ask you what you have got that for. The only answer that won't get you in trouble is to say "to illuminate dark areas". If your flashlight has an aggressive bezel, and godforbid it has a warrior ring and you say something like "to protect myself" or "to keep me safe", at the very least they will confiscate it from you. But having said all that, if you carry a tactical light solely for the purpose of illuminating dark areas, that doesn't mean that you are not allowed to shine it in someone's eyes and clobber them with it in a self defence situation. You are allowed to use anything to hand to protect yourself when you are being attacked. You're just not allowed to have it for protection when you aren't being attacked.

Great video! I don't agree with everything, but you describe the best use and features of flash lights for self defense and i think that complete my ideal edc for self defense. Here in Brasil the self defense sprays are to big for tinny pockets or normal pants. So, the dual discipline of folding knife and flash light is efective and confort. You have two great tools, they aren't hart to explain for police, they match with the most situations and permit you be super agressive or just say sorry if you shine some meth head eyes. Don't fear look strange or weirdo guys, it's best than look defenseless. Great video and "um salve pro Brasil".

Nice test! I think key to blind someone is candela. I have the TA30 with 1300 lumen. Candela of the TA30C is about 20.000. That would be ok for close range but for longer distance you need more. I am thinking about the Acebeam P16 Defender. It has 58.000cd and quite a large hotspot for a thrower so its easier to hit the face with the hot spot. Also the bezel is quite agressive but not to much. From my own test turbo is more intense than strobe. But I am kind of used to strobe. The first times it was also awful to me. But there are persons who are not affected by strobe at all there the light of a constant turbo is more intense I think. But drunken or doped up aggressors again will have more trouble with strobe. SO its good to have both. Its terrible that Olight ruined the tac mode of the warrior. Its now medium and strobe previuos models had turbo and strobe.

My go to self defence light is the Convoy m2 with a switchback installed and also a forward clicky switch added. It's head diameter is 31mm so it's great for the pocket, it has a striking bezel and this is what i would use to strike with cause the switchback is helping tremendously to not lose the light from your grip by slipping out of it while hammerstriking with it. The switchback is what will allow you to be able to multiple hammerstrike with the striking bezel of the M2 and do some serious damage before fleeting. Mine has now the osram w1 led in it which isn't ideal cause the candella is really high thus the hotspot is too small to accuratelly hit someones eyes in a panic situation but you can order the Convoy m2 with other led options that are far more suitable to get a bigger hotspot, like the osram w2, or the sst40 or the sft40 or even mod one or order a modded one from a modder with the sbt90.2 and really do some blinding damage to someone with that beast of an led.

Although you have a great list of items that a true self defense flashlight should have, I would argue that quick access strobe should be one of the items too. Because of that, I think it disqualifies the T2 TAC. I’m really hoping their next revision has that because it’s a fantastic light otherwise.

I have the fenix tk16 v2 and its an incredible light. Hahaha. I left this comment at the start of the video. It sounded a little sassy after watching the video, so I came back to edit. I live in the states and carry lots of other self defense tools. I love the tk16, but dont carry it everyday. Self defense tools should be carried everyday. Even so, i have carried and used it enough where I cant see myself getting the wrong tail button and even if you squeeze down both, you get strobe. That being said, if you strobe your enemy, youre strobbing yourself. Blind as a bat. Ive taken a few lowlight firearms courses and light management is a big one. One of the big takeaways is how to use your light to your own advantage and the peril of the badguy.

@@flashlightcrazyI just finished up this morning. Really good stuff and some very cool lights. You bring up a lot of great points that I feel a lot of people aren't thinking of. It did make me think about the tail buttons again. Having one button that if you press one way, you get turbo and press the same button another way, you get strobe sounds problematic under stress. Granted, in any case, you'll get high light, but that's not what I want. I want full control of the light. I have lights on rifles that have remote pressure pads. The pads usually have 2 buttons. One larger button is momentary on, then there's a clicky button for constant on. I have never confused the buttons in training, but have double tapped the momentary on under stress, on multiple occasions. It's a muscle memory thing. It's good to train with whatever you use, figure out what works for you and even better, what doesn't work for you. Good stuff!

Honestly a great video, great breakdown of what and how to do, and analysis of different flashlights. But the testing segment could use timestamps. From this video as well as your other ones i was very impressed with the Weltool T2 TAC but sadly i can't buy it where i live. I'm looking at Nextorch TA30C Max and Olight Warrior X 3 as alternatives, but i am unable to draw a definitive conclusion between them. Seems like the Warrior had a more prominent effect on you in the video, but i don't really understand by how much. Thank you SO much for this video. It’s proved invaluable in my journey of finding a torch for defence purposes. I’ll likely end up with one that you’ve recommended (T2tac), but wondered what you thought of the Nitecore EDC27? It meets some of the criteria that you said a defence torch must have but I was also quite lured by the very high lumin (3000). So I guess my question is A. Would you recommend over those in this vid. B, is there a peak in Lumen benefits for defence. I.e. 3000 blinds you no more than 1600 etc? Thanks again. Tyson
@flashlightcrazy
@flashlightcrazy Жыл бұрын
Hey mate, firstly, I recommend most of the lights in this video besides the warrior mini 3. It didnt do much in the way of blinding. The EDC27 (in my opinion) is unreliable. Built in battery is a big issue for me when it comes to self defence. Additionally, I want one button that is all. The issue with more than one button is this: A high adrenalin situation removes thinking power and you go into reaction. One button eliminates any mistakes. all you have to do is find that one button and you can buy yourself a few precious seconds to make your next move
@CorruptionManX

@@flashlightcrazy I understand your point about the extra button causing confusion, but I still think that more candela and more lumens are always preferred when it comes to personal defense. There are flashlights with better configurations that you have already analyzed and were left out of the list. This is a bit confusing, if the flashlight has better specs and a greater ability to blind the attacker this should be a key factor. I don't think an extra button is a major problem, the person just needs to train themselves to always use the tail button.

I personally think the fenix r modles are some of the best security/self defence lights pd35r/36r or tk16/20r, the 3000 lumen strobe button feels like a trigger for strobe and the clicky can be memorised in turbo or low mode for walking. Like walking in low mode with a trigger to strobe

The R with Fenix just represents that the model is rechargeable from the body. Nothing more.

What about the tn12 pro?
@djups0686
@djups0686 Жыл бұрын
Look up his T2 Tac review. Bout midway through he explains it. Long-short is, it's more purpose driven. Slightly more power (candela). Turbo only, no extra side switch, almost no extra modes. Personally I prefer the TN12 Pro as a better all-rounder. Considering the tailcap is still dedicated turbo on the Thrunite, I appreciate its greater versatility, and don't see a dealbreaker loss in defensive capability. But for purely defensive use, I could see how the Weltool edges it out in simplicity. Also, OD Green.

In my opinion its Fenix TK16 v2 and Nitecore P20ix, momentary on, instant strobe, head with strike bezel with breaking tips. Dual tailswich is made so well, that you cant accidentally click bad one, if you know your flashlight well. I carry my fenix tk16 always with turbo remembered.

Totally agree. I have one tk16 in a car, p20ix in the second car. Simple mode access, wide beam to blind easily. Knowing your light is essential to use it properly.

very good video however the majority of lights presented here are just too big for daily carrying. I recently bought the new Nitecore EDC33 and carry it in my hand for search (where is my dog) and self defense purpose (half press+hold activates search with 1700 lumen, full press+hold activates Lumin Shield with 4000 Lumen). My only gripe is the lack of flood in moonlight mode despite the flashlight even having a new sensor that can do both at the same time.
@nickmartin8495

excellent choice. The Nitecore EDC35 & Wurkkos TD03 are also similarly useful choices, although a little bigger than the EDC33.

Great video, a little bit long, but I watched it all. Great information and testing. Just ordered the P16 that has dual tail switch, next in list either weltool t2 tac - Nextorch ta30c - Olight warriorx3.... I wonder how the warrior 3s could have done in this test, if you have it could you test the same scenario and let us know? Thanks.

I left that one out because it was similar size to the X3 but less blinding power and i wanted the WM3 to try something smaller.

great video!.. What stinks is you have to take out the battery to charge.. since you have to take out the battery to charge it, Do you have a recommendation for a self defense battery that takes AA batteries or NimH recheargeables?

It's hard to explain how good the dual-step tailswitch is on the NEXTORCH TA30C (and the MAX)! A little bit of pressure is enough to turn the light on.

Love your channel and toes expertise. I have just one complaint, the camera is way too far back from you and the flashlights. The flashlights all look identical, partly because of the far distance from camera to the items you’re describing. Maybe consider having another person film for you, that way he can zoom in when you start talking about important features on the flashlights. I stopped watching half way through because I couldn’t see anything. Hopefully you’ll correct the issues, I’m sure I’m not the only one. Thanks for your hard work.

Very informative! Great job. By any chance, do you know if the LH9 potted light head will fit the BB3 body? I already emailed weltool but got nothing back from them. I just wanted to ask if you would know since you made a custom Weltool with the tactical ring and I would like one too. I just like the LH9 because it’s potted. Will greatly appreciate your help. Thank you

It will fit the BB3 body, but it will draw a lot of power from the 18350 battery and drain the battery very fast. So I suggest keeping it in 18650 form so you can get better runtime. Otherwise you will have to bring with you several batteries

I don't put flashlights in my pocket and if it has a clip I don't see the need. I ordered the Nextorch TA30C Max because I wanted a very bright light for self defense. It's heavy and it's solid and if worse comes to worst it can be used as a striking instrument. By the way what you said about flashlights also goes for pepper spray. Once your potential assailant gets over his initial shock he may turn into a charging animal. Be prepared!!!!

I use a good white light to identify, disorient, and finally address the threat level. If the level is deemed deadly, i will then draw my weapon. Which is also equipped with a light.

@flashlightcrazy Hi great video thank you. I've seen your other vids on nitecore p10ix and realise this didn't have the high candles to make this vid. But because of its huge flood would it be possible it would do the job as good as or close to your top pics in this video. Lumen flood spread over focused candela. ?
