When I was a Ranger, a tactical flashlight had a red lens because tactical meant dark and quiet as if behind enemy lines. “Going tactical “ means quitting all non-essential noise, smell, or light. A tactical road March was one in battle uniform with full battle equipment (less ammunition).

I feel like there's a certain type of person who pays extra for a "tactical" flashlight or pen. I could prolly market ice skates to them as "tactical" combat boots... I was laughing so hard at the lack of warning and Cliff’s reaction to being blinded. I’m shocked we aren’t seeing a bunch of people jumping on the racism train with no context. Icy mike is just so tactical that his trolls unintentionally have some of that tact rub off on them. Spreading common sense on the internet is a dangerous and unpredictable thing, Mike. Great job on spreading the word on lights as defensive tools! I wonder if there is a legal charge that can be levied against someone using a bright light without physical contact. It is a bit of an assault on the senses and can cause vision loss. Might it be ruled assault in certain contexts?
@marka2007

Interesting Video, thank you! I would like to add the following thought: Head wounds, especially the forehead, temple, eyebrows and top of the skull, bleed quite heavily. If the blood flows into the eyes, it can severely limit an attacker's vision. This also reduces the ability to attack. Depending on the crime being defended, DNA traces will stick to the flashlight after a good hit, which can make it easier to identify the attacker afterwards. This can be of some relevance in cases of attempted rape or attempted murder. Furthermore: In Germany, there are efforts to generally ban the carrying of knives of any shape and size in public. A flashlight is already considered harmless/safe by almost all security services and the police and is not classified as a weapon. Even if the head of the flashlight is designed as a "DNA collector". In this respect, I see a tactical flashlight with appropriate training in its use as a defensive weapon as an ideal and legal tool.

The best self defense tool is a flashlight Three things you can do with a flashlight disorientate, navigate and Identify. It takes a minimum of 60 lumens of incandescent light to disorientate someone’s vision in absolute darkness. And It takes a minimum of 120 lumens of led light to disorientate someone’s vision in low light. With most light having 800 lumens or more. Most violence happens at night and it gets dark every day

Carried same light for past year--i have 2 of them---previous was Klarus XT11---carry in Off side pocket. I carry it for reasons: This is my illumination defensive light--primary use is for the light-illuminate target for projectile weapon engagement--not strike part---I also carry utility light 1 It has high lumens advertiesed 2550 lumen or about 2 It has a constant strobe mode----which I believe in ---some dont 3 It has recessed button so doesnt go off like the klarus do all the time 4 I dont like the sharpened bezel as it tears up pocket--i wrapped my bezel in duct tape 5 I dont like that it doesnt have hole near button to run lanyard---use shockcord ala james yeager 6 Its a lil long in the pocket but workable with daily carry in wolverine carpenter pants 7 I like that you can use proprietary charge--plus pull that out and then usb it---very innovative 8 my only wish was that strobe was full 2550 but thats me

This is really good advice. I carry one of these at work because I go into areas where I can't carry a pistol. I have never had to use it yet but I know how I would use it. I would have it in my left hand. I would blind an approaching attacker and then hit them with a gigantic right straight punch that they can't see coming. I would not use it to strike with. It of course would cut the skin more but I think I could cause more concussive damage by just punching without it. Also, when the cops show up, I would rather tell them I only hit the guy with my hands and not with a weapon.

I love that you put quality content rather than BS and music only you would like. I have had an appreciation for flashlights for self-defense, but now a better idea of how to use and be prepared to use it. It would work against multiple attackers, nearly all of the time. So having one is much better than not. More importantly, practice, practice, practice makes muscle memory faster. You only have to be faster than your attacker. Most are drunken fools from whom you can walk away. While the others are the ones you were discussing. Thank you.😃

I love my E9R, I use it daily in my pre-dawn hikes. Unfortunately, somehow the charging indicator light lens popped out in the field (lost). I know they'll replace the light, but still. I also like the high lumen strobe that you can set to be the mode that turns on when you hit the switch for self-defense mode (another non-lethal option that might work for one of those drugged out dangerous zombies you see everywhere now). Not many companies have flashlights that do that.

One thing to worry about abusing flashlight on combats is that it got battery inside. And the battery is most likely to be lithium based. You don't want to form a crack on the battery cuz it might eventually release smoke and then explode, just like old motobombs cellphones. The lithium is very dangerous, battery is very dangerous. Ofc you won't be abusing the flashlight very often, but might be a good idea to check the battery after this kind of session

The Surefire Tactician is a great light. Not a fan of anything with a bezel designed to break skin on impact. I once heard that feature described as contributing nothing to the trauma inflicted upon impact, except now you have someone else’s blood on you. I guess if the bezel is sharp enough to tear flesh, that’s definitely additional trauma, but something to consider.

If you mentioned this and I missed it, sorry. Can't speak for this brand at all, but I've bought 3 different brands of mini led flashlights with the buttons on the end for the thumb. All worked great for about 2 weeks under lots of on/off use, then the spring gets fatigued and the lights either don't come on, or come on at lower power. I stretched out the springs and that helps a bit for awhile . So if you think you may use one in self defense emergency situation , you may want to keep that in mind. I've switched back to ones with the button on the side myself for every day type use and spare the ones I may use in self defense situation for just that.

My warrior mini is extremely suitable at burning holes in my clothes. 10/10 would burn myself again 👌

Does the fact that the flashlight is labeled "tactical" show premeditation if you were to have to use it in a confrontation?

I doubt it unless the situation is really dubious

Depends on a country, best is sturdy and heavy non-tactical flashlight.

Well, I bought it. I really hope it doesn’t suck. If it does I will expect a full reimbursement from you.

fun learning, good stuff, Im old, i used to keep my sneakers tied so i can always get away fast, now the only thing on me fast is how i eat and dream about being fast. my arthritis wont really work with using things to hit things. I think ill stick with my umbrella, a really strong flashlight, and my prayers. sure i own other weapons of self destruction, but i cant take them on an airplane

Rechargeables are better than regular batteries in multiple ways, it's not just preferance. You can get higher outputs and longer runtime and it's just better.

Hey IcyMike, I live in Canadia and I was wondering if you can recommend a flashlight without the crenulation on the crown? I want to pick something like this up but I'm pretty sure it would get seized by CBSA.
