Gone are the days of cast iron or clay tile sewer lines. In today's world, we primarily use three different types of plastic sewer lines: ABS plastic (black), PVC plastic (white), and high density polyethylene (HDPE, black with a green stripe). All three materials are great, but HDPE sewer lines stand out as the top choice. They are incredibly strong and can handle being bent and distorted over time without breaking. This flexibility is key, as sewer lines are often subject to ground movement due to changes in moisture and temperature. While ABS and PVC are also good options, they are more prone to snapping and cracking if they move too much.

Here in the desert, it appears that modern homes have some sort of green colored PVC plastic material. As a Floridian, and others who are from the south, Orangeberg sewage pipes were popular after WW2 through about the mid 1960's. Parents had an addition to the house and the sewer pipe had to be replaced. It was made of a paper, yes paper type material impregnated with tar or similar substance. Awful! Lots of yards were dug up over the years to replace that. Have seen some clay pipe that was root clogged. No doubt that plumbers in Florida made a lot of $$$$$ fixing all that.

Yep. The green pipe is SDR pipe. Good stuff too!
