Being a 38yr old who grew up on hip hop, I am ashamed to say that it took me some years before I could appreciate shook one's for what it is. To this day, one of the best all-time hip hop songs IMO. The reason I slept on that song is due to me growing up in LA. Even though we did listen to everything, there was for sure heavy bias there for West Coast artists. Snoop was it at that time, followed closely by Pac and Too Short. Don't get me wrong certain guys like Nas cut through, but Mobb Deep did not possess enough charisma or presence at that time and couldn't hold a candle next to the energy that Snoop had. Pac and Big dying allowed that East vs West BS to die as well thank God. Looking back at it, I can't even believe how much energy we all gave to that ignorance. I was 12-13 at that time which contributed to my ignorance, but what is the excuse for guys who were grown at that time? RIP Havoc, Pac, and BIG...it's a trip that so many guys from that time are no longer here.
