I can't speak for others, but my packs in particular contain certain theming and elements and whatever is available for that mc version. For instance, i have one that is strictly medieval survival fantasy themed, while another tries to be akin to the MC trailer release. Another is just QOL+Performance and making it MC 2.0 basically.

The thing with distant horizons is that you have to like, let the world render for about 5 to 10 minutes so you finally can have your normal fps, otherwise it'll be like you showed!

wh1zze's editor here! I guarantee you that the raw video lasted more than 10 minutes. Additionally, wh1zze recorded the FPS throughout the entire game, a result you can see in the graph at the end. I imagine that the modpack could perform much better just by changing some settings, but the rules in the video are without any setting modifications.

@@wh1zze Those self-imposed "rules" go against all conventional benchmark comparison precedent. In order to have an ACTUAL performance comparison that gives you valid data, all settings need to be set exactly the same for each modpack (at least as much as possible, as ofc there's some mods which add new settings not available on other packs, etc). The way this was done, some modpacks are using maxed out settings by default, and others are using ultra-low settings, and others a mixture. As a result, we have no idea how much of an impact the mods themselves are actually having on performance, vs how much the different graphics settings are affecting performance. It needs to be an apples-to-apples comparison, otherwise the data is largely pointless.

The reason your FPS was limited when testing Sodium Plus was that you still had Vsync enabled and set to Adaptive which dynamically enables and disables vsync to match your monitor's refresh rate. This was a great topic to cover. However, I hope you can do a follow-up video in the future where you set each video setting to be identical so that we can get a true comparison of the modpacks. Each of these modpacks use Sodium 0.5.11, so the real difference that you should be comparing is what all of the other mods included are doing such as Entity Culling, Indium, ModernFix, Noisium, etc. and how they impact your general FPS.

TSK, looking at all these modpacks makes me want to configure my own optimized pack. Already basically got the essentials since i need to use them to power the full pack (280-300 mods both packs). Fabulously Optimized has some great mods but quite lacking in utility, while performium is basically a copy without adding any new sustenance. Sodium Extra tries that, but fails to optimize first. All in all, they all have potential and exceed at something while lacking in other places.

Simply Optimized is my way to go, I used to use Fabulously Optimized but I had lag spikes going to 10 fps due to the fact that there was alot more mods in Fabulously Optimized, I dont have that problem when using Simply Optimized

Never forget that there is always a way to increase FPS in Minecraft, but to date there is no mod released that will fix the chunk loading issue in Minecraft. High FPS is good of course, but the most important thing is that the game does not freeze while the world is loading chunks, and yes, I will tell you a bitter truth; if your computer is not good enough (not everyone has a good computer) you will definitely experience a lag or freezing issue in Minecraft.

resourcify is cool, but not really applicable to prism laucher, because prism has that functionality built in too. so having to load an extra mod for something you dont use that often just seems wasteful. in the end, designing your own pack (which is really easy with prism!) is the best way to get a good balance between QoL and performance, and also a great learning opportunity!

I know you might get this alot and may be annoyed, but for Minecraft I use Linux Mint, I also use Windows but not Minecraft on Windows. On vanilla Minecraft, I get 60+ FPS on Linux Mint, whereas on Windows I get barely 30. Nvidia drivers may be a bit funky but overall I just wanted to suggest possibly trying Linux for more frames if you haven't.

Something i'd like to say is that nvidium only works for cards that got released after the rtx 2000 series because nvidium uses a feature that cards older than the rtx 2000 series don't have to optimise the game. For example i have a gtx 1060 so nvidium is useless for me.

The 9900k is a fine cpu, in a cpu bound game like minecraft it can hold back most modern gpus with ease though. A 4080 would especially be a stretch with a decent chunk of titles at sub 4k

But i've started an Aternos Fabric 1.21.1 server with some friends, we havent played in some time and most of us have pretty low-end pcs. what modpack could you recommend for us to use roughly based on my specs? to mention, we do have a light medieval-ish modpack running alongside the server that's been tested and it works fine. Though i do seem to experience lag spikes every so often while playtesting the server any guidance please? kinda hard to choose from so many optimisation modpacks out there =)
