The universal momentum Electric types offer via a STAB Volt Switch (at least I can’t think of an electric type mon that doesn’t get it), easily jumps it up a tier. Sure, Ground types can prevent it, but the fact that having an electric type mon often times forces the enemy team to bring their ground type makes it pretty easy to counter team against since, if they don’t bring it, you’re essentially guaranteed free STAB momentum for the match. I’d then lower Poison a tier cuz of what you mentioned where T-Spikes are a bit overrated. Additionally, when drafting, I’ve noticed how easily it is to stack ground type weaknesses, and though most typings can often have secondaries to compensate for them, its hard to do so as a poison type and still retain the T-Spike absorbing value it normally has if you choose to go for a Poison/Flying type or a Levitator. That said, their value for dealing with Fairies is still really good. Otherwise I agree with the rest of the set.

I realize I might be alone in not valuing Electric types ahah I will still sometimes grab an electric but usually because I need the speed or the electric type has a secondary typing I need. I think the top electric types are still very good, just not something I actively go for when drafting. Beauty of the format is everyone can play it differently and value different things. Thank you for sharing your opinion though, really appreciated!

I think Fire should be at least good to have just for their balance in offens and defense, resisting fairy, ice and itswlf while hitting steel super effective (and mostly neutral on a lot of types). They also often have really nice coverage. And I think 'just looking for a fire type in lower tiers' is kind of a positive argument? It means that even the weak/niche ones have at least a bit of use🤔

That's a fair point on Fire types. I definitely like them more now then in previous gens but I still don't find myself purposefully changing my draft around to ensure I have a fire type. If there is a low tier one I like i'll take it, otherwise I'll take something of a different type that accomplishes a role I think I need. Appreciate you sharing your opinion though, fire types are definitely viable.

On Fighting types defensively, they have a niche of being Dark resists that arent weak to common physical coverage moves like Poison Jab or Iron Head and are good against Rock types with edgequake coverage.

This is a tough thing to do because there’s a lot of types I would rank differently based on the roles they provide but if you have an alternative way to fill that role then it drastically changes the tier to me. For example when talking about electric having a way to deal with bulky waters/resist flying is paramount but if you have something like wellspring and a defensive steel type already it takes it all the way down to not needed. Similar for fires as a fairy resist. Great vid and not an easy feat

Yeah for sure! This discussion is way more nuanced then just typings but for the simplicity and keeping it concise, we decided to do types alone. Obviously flying types become not needed if you have a couple Levitate Pokemon. Glad you enjoyed the video!

On Flying: if levitate wasn't a thing Flying would be more necessary but Levitate means it's easy to get a ground immunity that doesn't need Boots as much, lowering the overall value of Flying defensively

I would actually prio grass a little more than flying, just because most strong grounds carry some variation of edge quake. One thing that's really annoying with flying types defensively is they're almost always required to have boots and if they get knocked off you're forced to roost more, creating less pressure. I also agree with you that electrics are not needed, tons of stuff gets electric coverage anyway. Other than those, I agree with the list!

Yeah, flying types having to run boots is pretty annoying and their main value point in being immune to ground can also be fulfilled by Levitate Pokémon. That being said, most drafts will end up with a flyer ahah

I think flying and grass kinda go hand in hand. Can your ground immunity take 1 stone edge? If not, you probably want a grass type. I think almost every draft I see that has a flying type also has a grass type, but if you have like flygon or claydol or bronzong then I wouldn't be surprised if you don't have a flying or a grass type.

The old "bulky waters are a must for draft" trope is just that, a trope. Theyre great but your draft isnt inherently bad if you dont have one.

I feel like a lot of the time Psychic types are drafted for everything else other than their typing. Be it stats movepool, ability, or whatever. Psychic as a typing sucks but the mons have so many strong traits to make up for it.

Personally, I agree with JRicky's argument about Electric types because there are plenty of good offensive Pokemon that get Electric coverage. Like Goldango gets Electro Ball and Thunderbolt. I like the Poison type and I agree that both Poison and Steel types are necessary because of the major offensive pressure from Fairy types. Poison types have mostly been used as a support type (in my opinion) especially before the Fairy type was created. But I’m glad to see that Poison types are getting the love they needed!

Hot take of the century: you dont need a fairy type. Theyre very very nice to have but its not worth grabbing some shit like Dachsbun just to have a fairy, unlike types such as dark, poison, or ground where even if you get a terrible one its still worth it. Id put it at the top of Should Have because ideally youll get one but you can definitely survive without one.

Having an electric type forces certain prep. Look at a mon like Regieleki. You NEED a Ground type. If you don't bring a ground type vs a strong electric type, you suffer immensely unless you have prepped in a different way (defensive Grass mons primarily, but even then, you can break something like a defensive grass type WAY easier than a defensive ground). Its the same with Dragons. If you have a Dragon, you can count on your opponent bring a steel or a fairy, which makes your prep easier. "Good to have"/"Should have" is where I would put it. Obviously, your opponent can have offensive checks for electrics (and for dragons even), but I love using electrics in specific for that reason.

Fair point about electric types. Beauty of draft league is everyone plays and values different things! I'd argue, ground types are so good in general that most teams will have/bring ground types regardless of the electric type on the other side. Same point for Dragon though I do value Dragon types much higher then electric types. Thanks for sharing your opinion!

Ricky boutta build his next draft around the Volcarona/Hisuian Avalugg core to assert dominance Couple things I'd personally tweak around Normal/Flying/Ghost, but mostly I reckon this is a very optimal list. Great work chaps

I think fire had to be in should have and bug you are right that is good because is always with a secondary type but bug resist ground and fighting 2 of the best types in draft so bug I think had to be at least on tier above. Very nice video I like a lot 👌

No wonder you’re the best! A person that thinks poison type is S tier (though I think similar to normal, they all fall into mid tiers). Poison to me acts as a blanket check to a lot of things, and having a mon be immune to toxic while also not missing toxic is super nice. Also can agree I think water is pretty overrated but for the reason that a lot of them are defensively power crept. Vaporeon and Gastrodon are good examples of mons I see trying to check something like Palafin and then proceed to get 2 hit ko’d by close combat or something. Offensive water is great, especially good ones with ice coverage like bundle or even low tiers like Lapras. Also cool Mario kart Wii music! Keep being awesome 😊

It is a good typing for sure! Its just not make or break on a draft since you often have other more important types that also provide the same resistences (water types, steel types, etc.). Still a good typing regardless!
