I’ve had a saijo for 15yrs now. I’ve tasted many types of persimmon (Asian and wild American, astringent and non-astringent) and the saijo is by far the best tasting.

WOW!!! I can't wait to see my persimmon trees produce. I've planted so many of them because I know when it first start to fruit, they will only produce very few. Thus, planting many will produce decent amount of fruits for me. When they start to produce in full abundant, I will definitely have too many, but that will be too many years down the road. I focus on short term production for me.

My three year-old grandson and I shared a Fuyu persimmon right off the tree as we sat on his swing set yesterday afternoon. Not quite ripe but still sweet as honey and crisp as an apple. Had to pick them a bit early because the deer have eaten pretty much all of my other fruit and the one ripe persimmon we had.

Deer may eat the tender leaves, which can affect the yield. But after the fruits set, they do not bother the tree.

Hi, Dan: we have two Fuyu, one 7, one 2 years old! They gave me tons of flowers but later only yield few fruits! But I saw a small persimmon tree may be only two years old down the street, in the shade no one take care it but bear so many persimmons, it makes me wondering if they have different variety from mine! You mentioned Jiro but you also said Fuyu, so I check with several nurseries and find out there are so many different varieties! I am totally lost! Would you be kind enough just tell me when and what you got your persimmon tree from please! Thanks a lot!

FYI - A plant that produces fruit without seeds or pollination is called parthenocarpic. This is different from plants that self-pollinate, i.e. clone themselves by seed.

I live in northwest florida and for many years my non-astringent fuyu did well. Then I noted diseased areas about the bases of where branching occurred. It appears to be the f, Botrysphaeria dothidia and with time it kills persimmons tending to bother the non-astringent more than the asian astringent varieties. I do not know know personally what it does to Jiro. My point is you should mention your zone when recommending what works for you and discuss disease. In colder zones for asian persimmon there is also a die off disease that is associated with extremely hard freezes. So that also needs to be considered. The old tyme favorite for the deep south is Saijo that I have and I have had real good luck with Hao River another astringent. Since this disease affliction

Seedless fruit goes against the laws of nature, we shouldn't be supporting seedless stuff, at the same time the fruit becomes too sweet and loses its enzymatic elements and greater health benefits. Nature perfected the art, if man is going to complain about seeds and manipulate nature, the food won't be as healing, and may even be detrimental in the long run. Nice video.
