The biggest challenge I see in the work we do at eLearning Partners is when someone selects the wrong elearning platform or software to achieve their eLearning and online course goals. This is not only a common challenge, it is a challenge that I have a lot of empathy for since there are literally thousands upon thousands of technologies out there. And lets be honest, no one has the time to go out there and try all of them. Therefore, what I like to teach is there are really only 2 types of eLearning softwares out there 1) Internal eLearning software (i.e. internal learning management systems) - software that allows you to build, host, and serve courses to your employees, contractors and team members. My favorite is definitely TalentLMS (you can check it out with an unlimited free trial here - bit.ly/ep-talentlms) and yes that is an affilaite link, but it is no additional cost to you if you use the link. 2) External eLearning software (i.e. external learning management systems) - software that allows you to build, host, market, sell, and serve courses to your customers to purchase. My favorite it definitely kajabi (you can check it out for a 30 day free trial here - bit.ly/Kajabi-30-day-trial) and yes that is an affilaite link, but it is no additional cost to you if you use the link, but you get an extended trial.

So powerpoint can be an Elearning platform but lacks LMS components. Is that correct? Google Docs has LMS components and can be an elearning platform.

The general definition of an eLearning platform is a technology that enables electronic learning. An LMS is a specific type of eLearning technology. So yes based on this definition, we would say that power point is a type of technology that enables you to create eLearning. Just like Google docs is a type of technology you can use to create eLearning.

This is where I'm confused on how to get into this industry because I don't want to create training courses for corporations I want to design eLearning elements for a range of Online Course Creators. And all I keep seeing is Instructional Designer job Postings but not much for just Course DESIGNER. I literally just want to do Graphic Design and Branding for Courses.

Preach! @Motion Muse love this comment. You know the crazy thing? A lot of these companies and people posting that they need an Instructional designer don’t really know what that even is. What you are doing is very much needed. You are most likely going to want to look at the “online course” space opposed to “elearning.” And as far as we are concerned what you do is “design.” We’d also say to message creators with a KZbin or other social media following directly and say you can help them with specific graphic design needs. Tell them you can save them time and make their online courses look amazing. You got this Motion Muse!
