In my opinion a great story is one that has an ending and that has a lot of thought put into it without padding for time, if a story respects the viewers time and intelligence then it's a good worthwhile story.

I can't believe he just went from saying "I don't care but I see why others do" for Eva and turn it upside down to "Monogatari is not mid. It's just bad, and people who loves it are teenagers who love boobs" I'm a fan of Monogatari and it's definitely in the top 3 of all the series I've watched and read so far. But I don't think I will ever say "People who don't like it is just bad or slow at reading and their brains aren't capable of handling the themes and the story. Or maybe they are someone who can't discern fiction from reality and can't just enjoy what's in front of their face." Why can't he just accept that there are people who likes it enough to give it a high score, and maybe this series is just not for him... I can see why he wouldn't like the series, but I can't see the need for him to hate on the series and its fan like that

@@arandomsquid6756 agreed. all of his monogatari complaints just feel like personal gripes or overexaggerations rather than valid criticism. monogatari is great at what it tries to be, if you don't like what it's trying to be, then it's just not for you. "i get overstimulated" yeah it's supposed to be overstimulating, it's not an easy comfort watch like a battle shounen or a romcom. the show isn't afraid to be a little intense or uncomfortable and that's really refreshing to me. "the dialogue is batshit insane" yeah it's supposed to be insane. a lot of scenes in monogatari are otherwise boring but are carried by the witty and entertaining dialogue. maybe not everybody wants dialogue like that in their shows, i personally enjoy it. "there is no sense of plot nor direction" a big theme of the series is confronting your inner demons and growing as a person. he complains a lot about the symbolism but i think it can help add depth to the characters' feelings and the way they grow. if he doesn't like the plot points being less material or obvious then that's fine, but to say the plot isn't there, or even that it's expressed poorly, is just false. you can grasp the plot of each arc by just paying attention, it's really not that hard. the sex themes in the show are sometimes treated as a gag, and since the story is fictional i'm not that badly bothered by it. but i can understand why some people would be. maybe i'm just desensitized from all the degenerate anime that has popped up over the years lol. i would never in a million years show monogatari to my mom, not because monogatari is a bad show or because my mom is a shallow person, monogatari just isn't the show for her. she wouldn't enjoy the sense of symbolism, she wouldn't enjoy the overstimulation, she wouldn't enjoy the sexual themes, etc. i think it's a lot more helpful to our collective understanding if we analyze art for what it is, recognizing its inherent qualities and the different perspectives with which we may experience them, instead of just boiling down everything to being "good" or "bad" based on whether we personally felt good or not while watching it, and then coming up with reasons to justify our feelings. i don't hate scrit or anything he can have his own opinion. but all of his takes on monogatari are just misses for me. sometimes i wonder if he genuinely dislikes the show or if he just hates it for the kick of it.

I haven't seen monogatari, but I suspect it is a show high on hermeneutics, just like Evangelion. Does it have a good story outside of the pure symbolism? Evngelion does have a decent one, so it survives, but many over symbolic works don't, and thus become even more dependant on subjective taste.

Ok, Frieren is great, I loved it. But it's nowhere near as good as Fullmetal Alchemist imo. FMA was consistent with its story, it's got solid characters and the world building is original and just **chef's kiss**. And I'm saying this as someone who's favorite anime is freaking Gintama. The thing is, this feels like that time in 2020 when people voted Demon Slayer as The Animation of the DECADE. Just because it was the one trending at the time. THE DECADE! Almost made me lose faith in anime fans tbh. Also I was agreeing with the video for most of the time until you reached the part of praising Mushoku Tensei characters while dunking on the characters of Bakemonogatari and Evangelion (which I would just like to say, actually has great fight scenes). I guess taste truly is subjective because.... bro what?!
@JoseLopez-gi9sf
@JoseLopez-gi9sf 5 күн бұрын
Demon Slayer is the anime of the decade. I have been watching a ome since the 70s and I can tell you it deserves to be a classic. Yes it has problems but it is the most beautiful thing made as a anime series. The biggest problem I see people complain about demon Slayer is because they can't relate to Tanjiro. That shows they can't love and have empathy for others. This is one of the greatest MCs that hurts to even kill but still does it because it needs to be done. The story is short and sweet compared to Shonen that never end. And I deserves all the praises. Not only in animation but in story telling. It needs to be a classic.
@ilsavil
@ilsavil 5 күн бұрын
@@JoseLopez-gi9sf bro, ok first I would just like to say I have no hate for Demon Slayer. The story is good, most characters are great and the animation is freaking amazing. BUT the thing is, the plot isn't really original and aside from guessing who dies next, the story also gets kind of predictable. There are a LOT of anime/manga with demon or demon-like hunting plot. Yu Yu Hakusho, Bleach, Blue Exorcist, Soul Eater, D.Gray-Man and even Full Metal Alchemist to name a few. What drives the plot in Demon Slayer isn't really ground breaking eaither; main protagonist loses his family to demons and set out on a journey to train himself to rid the world of the same evil that took his family and gain some friends along the way. Extremely basic plotline and most of the backlash on the anime has nothing to do with Tanjiro's character, he's a good main character but the story he's in isn't really as great as it seem. And just to remind you what amazing animes were out in 2010-2020 that actually has great plot and animation there's Made in Abyss, Vinland Saga, Attack on Titan, Mob Psycho 100, Hyouka, Violet Evergarden, Gintama, Steins;Gate, Hunter x Hunter, Puella Magi Madoka Magica and Psycho-Pass just to name a few. Demon Slayer could be a classic, sure, but it's not really anime of the decade.
@JoseLopez-gi9sf
@JoseLopez-gi9sf 5 күн бұрын
@ilsavil almost all the animes you named are also predictable. I guess the ending of attack on titan early on and knew it was going to get hate for that ending. And it did. HunterX Hunter is a manga written in the 90s and most of the middle of the anime was already and OVA it could technically be considered a remake like Jojos bizarre adventure. It also goes off a story that hasn't ended. Which you can't really compare demon slayer too. Demon Slayer knew the demons have to loss and it will happen. The story is short and doesnt drag on and on. To even get into hunter hunter you have to watch 30 plus episodes. Once you get the foundation then the story actually starts to hit you hard but it needed those episodes to establish the power setting. Demon slayer never had that kind of time. Tanjiro needs his sister back to normal while Gon could look for his father for the next 50 years. Mod Psycho is also annoying and repetitive and gets most of their crazy antics from the likes of other stories that do the same. FLCL, Gurren Laggann. Vineland Saga gets its edginess from Berserk. While I will agree some of the ones you mentioned are good animes. They have don't cater to a big demographic. Made in abyss and Psycho pass need the anime fans that are actually looking to think. Attack on titan brought so many new anime lovers to the show because it was a simple story about revenge at first. Demon slayer did the same thing. It brought in new fans to show how beautiful anime can be made and how much depth characters can have aside from their surface level qualities. Most hate on Demon slayer is just I had Zenitsu so I can't get into it. Why a boy that cares for the people he kills. When both disregards the empathy it is trying to show. Exactly like the hate Mushoku Tensei gets. Even the author of that shown has gone on to say that he hopes if someone is welling to change that you won't just disregard them. And yet the show still gets hate. Both shows are more about the empathy of one another then anything else. While the other ones you mentioned have their own value to the show. But you can't say that the anime of the decade goes to some like Vineland Saga when only a small group watched the show. While Demon Slayer even here in the states sold so many tickets for their first movie. Breaking records on anime brought to the states. That is what makes it great. Not good but great because so many people got into demon slayer. It is because of them that more and more anime is being recognized as good Cinema and you can go to theaters and see at least one or more animes are being brought to them in a year. The Overlord movir is scheduled to come in November to the states. And many people say that story is boring. Yet it is getting a fourth season.

Bro, that point about monogatari was questionable. Color palette: matter of taste. I don't mind it, but it is quite unusual. Batshit insane dialogues: matter of taste. I like monogatari FOR batshit insane dialogues Araragi might be insufferable, but he isn't a pussy (because you literally show how he was dragged by his intestines across the room seconds later, and if you watched the show you know that he willingly went there, knowing what is going to happen, but still choose to suffer to save other person. That is not a pussy behaviour.) Unapologetic PDFfile... Yeah, okay, that point is quite valid. "Nonsensical" plot... skill issue, I'm sorry. This video bring back a few thoughts: - Golden Kamuy is top anime, no matter all the problems with CGI it has. A show that can make you cry rivers in a moment just to break your ribs with laughter, from a dirty joke, literally 5 seconds later, is peak storytelling. - Frieren is an amazing show and I love it. I don't think is the top ever, but after so many years of really weak fantasy, it totally deserves the recognition. Maybe top 5 ever, IMO. - Brotherhood is a great show, I liked it, and I see why people love it so much, but I still think the first FMA is better. - Dragon Ball is a great show and I love it, but Dragon Ball Z and everything after is a repetitive, uncreative and uninteresting di*k measuring fest. I don't understand why people love it so much. Maybe for the older dudes like me it is nostalgy, but for younger people it just doesn't make sense. - Bleach have 17 chapters, before it transforms into a less honest, more boring Dragon Ball Z. Mid. Mid all the way to the present day. - For a show so praised for its humor, Konosuba barely made me smirk a couple times, and I had to leave it after the 5 chapter because it was insufferably boring. And no, I don't see how someone could like it. It is just not funny.

@@usernameunderdevelopment And not a single one of those videos is well made or well researched unfortunately (maybe there's a good low popularity video on it that has less than 1000 views or something I haven't seen idk, but the popular ones are all sensationalism). The critiques are so poor and filled not even with opinions, but tons of objectively wrong information. All of them just riding its wave of popularity and seething with enough jealousy to make videos about the series, some of them even admitting to that themselves. You simply can't call its characters shallow as each one is filled with plenty of depth in the story. Every argument of its kind just ignores 99% of the character and looks at them not even on the surface level lol. The plot is basic ofc, 99% of stories' plots are basic. That's kinda the point of a plot. Only a handful of stories out there in any medium with plots that aren't basic and that's probably because they are convoluted. Immature reasons like jealousy mostly, attention as well, listening to others without forming their own opinion, etc.

By the thumbnail I thought that you were going to do a character analysis and compare well-written stoic characters with boring characters, by for example comparing the two characters shown on the thumbnail. I thought that would be very interesting, but now that I'm 14 min into the video, I'm a little disappointed that you're probably not gonna do that at all 😆 Another thing is, I saw someone else in the comments of another video of yours say that you talk about certain groups of people putting them in a box based on your personal opinions of how you see them instead of actually seeing what they think, and I think I can see a bit of that here. But the biggest thing for me is that I find that in your videos it feels like I'm just chatting with someone saying their opinions on stuff, instead of watching an analysis on something, in the sense that I don't see much... valuable insight(?) or knowledge? being added here. Like, I'm probably going to do the same thing I did with the previous one I watched, which is to take it off of my "writing" playlist because it doesn't add anything really significant, it's just a guy saying his opinions. In my opinion, having your videos be strictly this overall, it diminishes their value. I watch these types of videos looking for an analysis of storytelling, to learn something. But I mean, if you're (I mean the viewers) just looking for a video that just looks like you're chatting with someone commenting their opinions, I guess it's fine.

Although I'd also offer to you that any advice you're going to get about writing is going to be a matter of opinion. Maybe I could do more to extrapolate and provide a lesson, but I don't think I intended to teach as much as I intended to ponder with this video. Although, I could do a video on the difference between a stoic character and a boring character. People confuse this channel as media analysis, but it's really just open notes and the occasional thought experiment. If my experience and perspective teaches you something new, then that's cool. If not, then that's fine too. A lot of this is really just so I can work through ideas and reapply them to my own writing.

I don't think any show is perfect. And I don't think watching something just because is going to make you bitter in anyway. Like you said you can find good things in bad stories. As well as you can see bad things in good stories. Especially when you are the type to have low expectations when something becomes overly popular. You only want to see the bad because everyone else likes it. Because you just want to get the conversation over with. Which isn't fair to the people that enjoy the conversations. Juat because you didn't understand something that was popular or highly rated doesnt make it boring or mid. Maybe it wasn't made for you. Maybe you are not realizing what sort of people made it during the time it was made. Something over twenty years old may not resonate with you. As well as you could see something resonate with you even when nobody understands it. You can still habe conversations trying to understand each other. Trying to have empathy with those around you even when it is hard to do. Tanjiro is one of the best characters in recent years to show that. To show empathy to the person you just can't agree with. To love them enough to understand what they are going through. Even if you don't like it or down right hate it.

Hey, bro mentioned Mushoku Tensei! Gonna make a video on it?

I don't really wanna make videos which are solely about one show or thing tbh.

@@ScritRighter Eh, I kinda meant more of a video on really great stories with some really bad elements. I think it could be interesting, like the really bad pedo stuff in Mushoku Tensei and other anime. Or you could include stuff like the racism or sexism in a lot of older media. Like, a video discussing ways to think about good things with some disgusting traits

@@coolcommcollect There is unfortunately a trio of 'good' shows which have been ruined by their need to sexualize children. Dunno how much I wanna go into that, but maybe in a pet peeves video or something.

I like the hollow feeling of bakemonogatari but the plot and the characters are so fucking bad
