I heard in the book of Genesis that GOD said that my spirit will not remain in man forever because man is but dust. Such is life that comes from God. and when it returns to the dust, the spirit returns to God. When Jesus returns, then He will give His Spirit, then there will be life. Amen

You’re mixing two things- the Holy Spirit and the spirit, as in, breath. The Spirit that will not always strive with man is the Holy Spirit, and the spirit that God gives the dead when he returns refers to breath.

Yes, the Spirit goes to be with the Lord. However, the souls is your very being. It is who you are in e dry way. And the souls the body turns back to dust, the Spirit goes to the Lord, the Soul sleeps until the resurrection when our Lord comes back at which time the glorified body, soul and Spirit reunite forever.

You said "the Bible" uses the word "soul" 1,600 times. That word appears well under 1,000 times. Soul and spirit can mean the same thing depending on context. In addition to "soul" meaning a person, it can also mean the intangible element called mental process or intelligence. At the death of the body man's soul or intelligence is kept in a sleeping state by God until the resurrection. That that is why Jesus could say: "Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death." John 8:51. "Never see death" means you will never die. That promise was made to every man; not just the 144,000. As Matthew 10:28 says, man can kill the body but only God can destroy the soul of man in hell. You don't need to know any Greek or Hebrew to understand this.

How is it that our thoughts perish when we die? Doesn’t that contradict the story Jesus told of the rich man and Lazarus? Clearly the rich man remembered him after he died

When Jesus said,into thy hand I commit my spirit oh God,Jesus was subject to the grave like all of mankind.When we die a our spirit(breath of God) returns to God who gave it to everyone .Our soul like Jesus soul was subject to the grave(our soul is our character and product of our life) ,Jesus said in Psalm 49:15, For God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave for He shall receive me.Jesus meant that he had obeyed God and thru his obiedence his character had attained perfection(forming a mature character like God's ).The difference is that Jesus as a reward God raised Jesus on the third day,giving Jesus the power over death .Now we are promised the same power and ressurection of our souls and body(although a better body) if we as Jesus did obey God and form a mature character like God's.Jesus did not obtain perfection until He died and rose from the grave.He said on the road to Jerusalem,I must needs go on to my perfection.He had to finish God's plan,like we all do.Its like Israel of old and the old covenant,Hebrews 11:40 God. having provided some better thing for us,that they without us(new covenant) should not be made perfect.Stick to God's plan.
