I'm just getting in to it now after having bounced off of it years ago because I couldn't do the tutorial. It was during the "cancel one special move into another special move" part. Apparently, the directional inputs are buffered, so I just had to hit the two attack buttons sequentially rather than doing the whole combo for the second move. I still don't know what the benefit of cancelling one move into another is. Does the first move still do the full damage? So far, I had a few sessions with my brother next to me, and I've played story mode and arcade mode once. The two bosses at the end are obnoxiously difficult to someone facing them for the first time, and I couldn't figure out how to deal with them in a legit way. Ash and the person with the same hair but white clothing look so much like women that I'm having a hard time seeing them as male characters. It sucks because that would have been an awesome female character design.

The stories Max tells about Killer Instinct and Marvel vs Capcom are super cool to hear. The child like wonder about a game being cool and the want to compete against good players and improve to become even better really speak to what makes fighting games fun. For me UMVC3, Smash, and Tekken really defined the decade but Tekken 7 is the dream of what you want a great fighting game to be. It was bomb as fuck out of the box, the support for it cultivated a community that caught fire and grew immensely. Even when I stopped playing Tekken 7 because I don't have the time to I still watch it and it's one of my favorite fighters just to spectate. It broke the stigma of 3D fighters in the community and gained respect from those that don't even play it.

How bout this, This game was released in 2013 and it still plays like it was released yesterday. Mechanics are solid, graphics are top notch, its fast, a combo system many try to emulate with no infinite broken combos, perfect counter system that even includes a counter counter, diverse roster. I'm a hard core street fighter guy, my favorite being Third strike, but in all honestly any fighting game out there feels cheap compared to KI

I love Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 so much! It felt like the perfected version of MvC2 with much more character variety for each new and returning addition. Not too many clone movsets or characters that felt copy/paste like in MvC2 (not trying downplaying how great MvC2 was, though). I know it had all its broken stuff and X-Factor was a thing, but it felt like everyone could be broken on the same level with the right team (even if Vergil and his motivation was everyone's foil). And from an aesthetic standpoint, it nailed that comic style in a 3D graphics way. I think only Arcsys could probably make it look better.

Can't even argue about the Top Pick Killer instinct had the best netcode ever in a fighting game, the best soundtrack, the most diverse and most unique characters, it managed to stay interesting with season 3 by fixing things and changing a few of the fighting mechanics and adding even more Single player content with modes like "Shadowlords"... plus "Counter Breakers" are like the most Hype Mechanic in the history of Fighting Games, I wish every fighting game had a "Counter Breaker" it would create the most hyped moments in fighting games, the game has everything.

My issue with taking killer instinct over mvc3 is that, 3 was the VERY LAST game made before Marvel was bought out by Disney. Those characters haven’t been the same since and in a sense the game represents the past milestone of marvel as an older generation knew it.

It says a lot that KOF XIII will enter the top 5 of Max's favorite fighting games of the last 10 years even though he only played a few fights several years ago (and at that time he didn't like it because he was more dominated by his internal Capcom fanboy) and this year he made 3 streams of him for Terry Legacy. And possibly it would have been less because the day Max recorded the Rate the Super, he also planned to play the Arcade mode, but people bothered him so much that he would use the super K 'that ended the stream and played the Arcade mode in another stream later. But on the other hand it gives me a bit of sadness that he only came back only because Terry entered Smash, if that hadn’t happened Max would not have returned to play KOF XIII and therefore would not have entered the top, and perhaps there would have been no representation of some SNK game at all in the top. But in the end, I’m glad that he has returned to try KOF XIII and that he discovered how great it’s even though it was very ignored at the time because of USFIV and because several of the old SNK fans had an irrational hatred of Playmore. But curiously it was the KOF that began to arouse the interest of the people of the United States. And this is possibly going to anger several, but that KOF XIII will enter the top 5 proves that the phrase "SNK is back" that was created after SNK will remove the Playmore from the name makes no sense. What I mean is that SNK had returned much earlier but had to leave again because of the irrational hatred of people towards Playmore, although said era was very problematic it seems that people ignore all the things they do right and only remembers the errors or even gives them more than they actually had. In addition, SNK wanted to remove the Playmore from the name much earlier but could not for legal reasons, since it had to pass a minimum number of years to be able to use it again. Not to mention that the "SNK is back" could only happen because a Chinese company decided to finance SNK to return to play games, if that hadn’t happened it’s very likely that they would currently continue in the business of the pachinkos trying to recover of the great financial losses that KOF XIII generated. In conclusion, the SECOND return of SNK was only possible by a miracle and not by the support of the old fans. And that while they are currently doing great games (with the exception of SNK Heroines...) at the time of Playmore as well and created one of the best 2D fighting games.

It warms my heart to see the most recognizable face of the FGC give such a high praise to Killer Instinct. That alone will get more people to play this game. Also, I find it easier to take a step back and look at, in your own words Max, the most important part of a fighting game: the CHARACTERS. Mahvels got legendary heroes for sure, but they're more of a homage to their respective franchises. Tatsunoko vs capcom. Despite i only put a few hours on it, it had so many things that made it so good and it gave alexs QCF attack a special version. It was just the most visually impressive and even if the roster was small you had a lot of variety and introducing giant characters. Not to mention new systems in a vs game like Baroque and Mega Crash. It was the best vs game i ever played. But ill have to look into the other fighting games I played because ill stick to the tatsunoko decision until i look over everything i played

Max could put out a series called “I rant about fighting games from before you were born incoherently into a blue yeti for one continuous 2.5 hour unedited stream clip while my friends slam on arcade sticks with rubber mallets” every single day and i would never miss an episode. So honestly the effort and love he puts into his content just elevates him so much and it’s really what sets him apart. Can’t say enough good things about Max, he’s given me my love for so many fighting games and video games and streaming. Honestly even though nowadays I’m a total casual who plays fortnite and halo and the occasional session of getting my ass kicked in KI I still love this channel. Max is like the really cool older brother we always wanted.

Before I watch the video: 1. Killer Instinct 2. Ultra Street Fighter 4 (technically counts) 3. Smash Ult 4. Tekken 7 5. Can't think of a 5th game that's worthy of this list. Edit: I forgot about a looooot of the games shown here holy moly. I heavily dislike UMVC3, but everything else on the list is spot on. Killer Instinct is so beyond good though. It's so good that no matter how much attention and praise it gets, I'd still consider underrated. I wish I had access to KoF13, I've always wanted to play it, but never had the chance lol. In my experience, Smash reigned supreme for years in a social and casual environment, be it with friends online or on the couch. It's pretty hard to top what Sakurai gave us lol. That said, I give shout-outs to every iteration of SF4; no other tourney game made me as hype.

What I got from this is that considering how small the playerbase is, there are a TON of fighting games, and cursory research tells me that the majority are multiplayer focused with bare bones single player content. Would be interesting to see if a fighting game could be made that was 100% single player. Might help grow the playerbase as well.

Max worked for both Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 (doing tutorials and material to promote the game) and on KI (doing the character trailers) but in the end the winner was the game that he thinks that have the best online netcode however the console exclusive killed that game. Up to this day many people have not play it or give it a chance because it was just on Xbox One and it came out on PC way too late.
