Okay, so this is really weird, but, I was just thinking that maybe the Holy Spirit is also thought of as a companion sort-of-speak and I scrolled down a little bit and the first video that was listed on the right-hand side was under the title "LDS General Conference: The Holy Ghost as Your Companion" Maybe that's the Holy Spirit speaking to me to look into your faith?

Amen. 👍 It's so good to hear from someone who, like me, grew up in the Church. It's testimonies like this that just continue to strengthen my faith in God, modern-day revelation, and the Church... Since you asked, I guess I should talk about my experiences as well. I was born in Provo, but I didn't grow up in Utah. Until I finished my sophmore year in high school (and moved to pleasant grove) I was the only mormon girl in the whole school, and the only mormon period in my grade. I got to start every high school morning with seminary at 6am, and it really helped me get through school with a positive attitude. I accepted that I was different, so I didn't try to be like everybody else. Even though I wasn't close friends with anyone, they still noticed my positivity and light. Now that I live in Utah, I only feel alone in that students don't want to get to know the new girl. Junior year is a weird time to switch schools. But I know it's where I'm supposed to be, and I can't wait to find out what God's plan has in store for me.

As a recent convert to the church, I'm constantly being asked by my friends and family how I can believe when there are so many "historical issues" etc etc. Ive tried to explain that the Holy Ghost has confirmed to me that the church is true, but that's not good enough of an answer for most people who just want to argue the details. How do you respond to people who bring up these things? Specifically people bring up allegations against Joseph Smiths character and honesty. Can you make a video about how you guys feel about these things? Thanks so much
@ianforsyth78047 жыл бұрын
If you truly want to know of Joseph Smith's character and honesty, go and check out primary sources from his day. See what his friends, his family, and his enemies said about him. The Joseph Smith Papers are an excellent source to turn to. Also, Rough Stone Rolling gives a great objective report of the Prophet's life. When it comes to discussing these matters with people make sure you and they have a ground level understanding of what evidence and truth mean. If you are using different means to establish evidence and what is not evidence, then you're going to run into problems having a scholarly or even spiritually uplifting discussion. Looking into history can always be tricky because we don't live in the past and do not have time machines. In my opinion, analyzing documents from the era are your best bet to find out who Joseph truly was and was prophecied to become (this includes the Book of Mormon). Lot's of the church's antagonists do not see celestial occurrences as evidence or even historical fact, because they are supernatural in nature. For example, the first vision is attacked a lot because Joseph claims he saw God the Father and His Son. Since no one was there, lots of folks say that it's clearly a lie since there wasn't a physical second witness present. However, many other people were there during other celestial visitations (Christ coming to the Kirkland Temple to seal it as his work, Elijah and Moses coming down to restore keys, Moroni appearing to the 3 witnesses and allowing them to handle the original plates of the Book of Mormon) and they witness them to being true. None of these men ever denied these visitations and truly testified of their validity throughout their lifetimes. The same way theological and non-theological scholars can say that Jesus of Nazareth was definitely a man during the meridian of time is the same way we can understand the character of Joseph Smith. Even then we cannot just rely on the "evidence" to build our testimony. It is always necessary to ask God for a spiritual confirmation since we claim that he is the divine organizer of these things. Asking questions isn't a bad thing, ever. But asking questions without the desire to find out the truth is not constructive. Through logical and spiritually uplifting study and prayer, I have come to know of the Prophet Joseph's divine mission as the Lord's prophet and prophet of the Restoration the gospel. He was the Lord's chosen vessel. ALSO, I almost forgot. Ask your friends and family to read through the KnoWhys on www.bookofmormoncentral.org It's a great source to help non-Mormons become familiar with the Book of Mormon and its doctrines. Hope that helps a little. Best, Ian

I may disagree with you as to what the holy spirit is (as a personal entity), but your testimony is very powerful. I believe God speaks through his holy spirit to all people. I was an avowed atheist when I felt this undeniable presence that something was missing from my life. Something I didn't even know I had. I know it was God calling me to him/her. I am not LDS, but believe God speaks in diverse ways to various people around the world. If you find truth in the Book of Mormon and it leads you to God, that is wonderful.

I too have a question Ian. This video is labeled, 'what is the Holy Ghost?' but you don't seem to really dig into that. I was watching to the end to see an actual definition and explanation of the Holy Ghost, but it was more of a conversion story or testimony. So my question is; is that what Mormonism believes the Holy Ghost to be? A feeling or experience? Honest question, I'm not mocking.

I loved the point about not being forced. I wasn't forced. I stayed home from church when I was a teenager because I wasn't forced. One proof of us not being forced to be a member is the fact that people can get their name removed from the records (which means they aren't a member any more) just by putting in writing that they want that to be done.

Firstly, sorry to hear that his father was killed when he was younger. The video's title, 'What is the Holy ghost?' is that first problem, this man never once refered tto the Holy ghost as 'he'. It should be WHO is the Holy ghost?, as the Holy ghost is a spirit person, and is predominantly refered to in the Bible by a masculine personal pronoun, (he, him, and himself.) In fact this was definitely taught by Christ himself, for example, John 16:7-15. Many personal characteristics are ascribed to the Holy ghost in the Bible's narrative. It clearly teaches that the Holy ghost thinks, feels, purposes, knows, wills, loves, and grieves. He also searches, speaks ,makes intercession, gives testimony, teaches truth, directs and commands men, and can give comfort, he is supremely intelligent!. Furthermore the Holy ghost can be rebelled against, lied to, and blasphemed against,. All of the above are sound Biblical evidence that the Holy ghost is a 'He', not a 'what'. I also note that this man's testimony was all about his faith and trust in Joseph Smith, the LDS church, and the Book of Mormon, which he quoted on several occasions. In contrast, the Holy Bible itself was barely mentioned or quoted from , (but there again as the man said,) the book of Mormon is the keystone of his faith. For Bible believing Christians the Bible is the only rule of faith. This gentleman is absolutely not a Christian, as we heard in his testimony, his faith centers on and around the testimony and teachings and writings of one man, Mormonism's founder Joseph Smith. Joseph taught his followers that the Bible cannot be trusted as it is 'not translated correctly', ( the Mormons 8th Article of faith to this day ). On the other hand he taught that his book of Mormon was 'the most correct book on earth' and that a man could become closer to God by reading it, than any other book. That's the driving force behind Mormonism, ie, 'if Joseph Smith or our present day church leaders teach it, we believe it.' That is the great and irreconcilable difference and devide between Mormonism and Biblical Christianity. So please read the Bible and trust it completely as Christ's followers have done for 20centuries, trust the real (non Mormon )Jesus Christ of the Bible and it's everlasting gospel, the one Joseph Smith rejected and replaced with another. Kind regards to all, especially Mormons.

Holy Ghost? Third member of the Godhead? MATTHEW 1:18 "she was found with child of the Holy Ghost." So in Mormonism the Holy Ghost is the Father of Jesus?
@mrplur7 жыл бұрын
The Gold fish in the lower left corner is a perfect analogy of the LDS church. Watch the fish go back and forth, again and again, as if trying to find it's freedom, it's true identity. Now mind you, the fish is semi-happy, taken care of, all setup plan, church, and all. The bowl is the church. The water is the gospel restored, and you are the gold fish. Try to actually believe and live the gospel restored in its fulness and you may find yourself trapped inside the impenetrable corporate policies attempting to correlate you, your spirit, and your pathway to God. You can't correlate the freedom of the gospel in its pureness, you can try, but in doing so you grieve the Holy Ghost, and God leads you to him in ways that you won't find in correlated manuals, ensigns, or by non-prophetic prophets, seers, and revelators. The gospel restored is actually freeing, once understood directly from God. The brethren are great, oft inspired as much as joe down the road who lives a good life, that baptist preacher who loves the book of Mormon and actually defends him more than the LDS church has, in his innocence with polygamy. But they, the brethren, are not your way to God, never have been nor will be. Nobody has a monopoly on the gospel restored, nobody. Mormon inc. is no exception, and has over the decades upon decades changed things and lost direct prophetic revelation, prophecy, and seership (please go ahead and show any examples of the brethren putting forth seership, prophecy or revelation according to the patterns of scriptural prophets, seers, and revelators ). We were deemed unworthy of worshiping God in the temples for having a "faith" crisis in the brethren (arm of flesh men) - in that we sustain them as leaders of the church, but have no witness from God they are anything more than just oft inspired men running a big church. Mormons beware. If you have such a "doubt" you are no worthy of a temple recommend, aka worthy of God according to church POLICY (notice I did not say according to the gospel restored). That experience was finally enough to realize that man-policies got in the way of the pure gospel restored, which after finally trusting His voice (God) over men-authority voices - he began to show us like a child the truths that the church suppresses and has yet to give prophetic prophecy and revelation as outlined by scriptural prophets. One of these truths is the same Joseph fought against to his death, polygamy was never from God and he was innocent of it entirely. Not one single prophetic anything from the brethren on the same (just paid scholars basing their outcome on histories written sometimes decades after joseph's death), but a beautiful, virtuous witness from God that Joseph was innocent, D&C 132 was obviously Brigham's doing, and Jacob 2 is a beautiful anti-polygamy reading, plain and simple to understand once we read as a child and trust God, not man's narrative. So... the point? Join the church, accept the gospel, get baptized, but the closer you get to God, just be ready to go through what Joseph did with the churches when he found God directly... and that is persecution, disdain, possible excommunication, and fingers of scorn (see Lehi's vision of great and spacious building filled with Sunday dress... errr.. exeeding fine dressed men, women, young and old in the attitude of mocking those partaking not of the LDS church, but partaking of the LOVE OF GOD in it's purity and virtue). The gospel restored is to bring one to cleave to Christ (iron rod) to get to God (tree of life, aka love of God).

na son na! LDS is man made Religion for men with men calling the shots. Going to pass son going to pass. Non biblical! Almost all of LDS theologies
@caleb82397 жыл бұрын
Great video showcasing the con of Moronism. Holy Ghost communicates truth by giving us feelings a.k.a. truth can only be felt. Meanwhile in reality, experience is never defined as truth. Experiences cannot be proven as they are inductive. False logic which is the core of all religious ideology.
@caleb82397 жыл бұрын
Perhaps I should clarify for those unfamiliar with logic: Something can only be proven as true using deductive logic. That means making a specific claim about general experiences. Inductive logic is the opposite and is making a general claim about specific experiences. For example, a specific experience is "feeling the holy ghost" which I then might make the general claim "the LDS Church must be true". As you can see, LDS ideology requires the incorrect use of logic to convince adherents of their claims.
