A very interesting and fruitful discussion. It is disappointing though, that given the scope of it, there was no questioning of the capitalist status quo whatsoever. Beyond cautioning against the alleged excesses of the welfare state, N.T.Wright had nothing to say here. How does capitalism fit in with the eschaton? Are we to take it that Christians cannot challenge social Darwinism? How can two men talk about the pros and cons of technology for so long and not raise the issue of who owns it?
Completely agree, as a christian entrepreneur this is a very important topic.

You guys are too smart to be religious. So are Peter and the other gentleman. But perhaps you lack courage in admitting what’s unknown. I can’t blame you...it is indeed frightening.

Thank you for the discussion. Yet the question for all of us remains : Do we have love? If we don't then lets first realize that that is the most important thing. Jesus's life above all was surely to indicate proof of the ultimate and true reality of everlasting Love. If we don't have that all the technology in the world or lack thereof is in vain. So lets reflect on that and pray that Love reigns on earth as we are taught it reigns in heaven. God Bless!

And apologies - I didn't mean to discount what either of these sincere speakers were saying - nor to make light of the seriousness of the situation in which countless suffer. I mention it as an addition to, rather than a rejection in any way of the discussion. All good things to all of us!

Good on the moderator for pushing Thiel to answer whether he believes in God. However, Thiel seems to be great at giving vague answers on this topic.

Bill Wilson, founder of Alcoholics Anonymous, in 1955 towards the end of his life said, "Spiritual rebirth may be the only alternative to extinction." Wilson, Frank Buchman, and their predecessors going back 2000 years have been advocating for this same thing, that truly inspired action is our hope, that we learn how to listen to God and then just do it, see Facebook.com/2WayPrayer

Listen to God ? . Which God ?whose God. ? Just fantasy. You are listening to your human heart when you think its something else. We are creatures who can empathise It is a natural development for a social, then civil creature. We have empathy because it is successful.

In my opinion I wish that the moderator just let Peter and Wright talk, to me he was a little annoying, but it was still a good talk.

I don't feel like they addressed the question in any satisfactory manor. What they've discussed, argued for, or against, does require the need of a deity of any type. There was nothing requires divinity.

I wish the moderator had a bit of self respect and would realize that no one is there to listen to his rants! He should have shut up and let these two well honored guests speak! I think he talks way too much and is quite annoying!!

We need a universal cause. Like cleaning up the Earth. We could employ nearly everyone in the world to care take the earth and pay them with the defense budgets. If everyone was satisfied with the essentials.

First question from the audience in this is right on target. "What do we need to change in our self before we try to change the world, so we can be sure we aren't just making the problem worse." Their answer is totally inadequate, they say "don't worry about it." Correct answer, learn how to listen to God first. Takes about 30 minutes, then we keep practicing it day by day. Yes I agree, Wright is just another guy twisting scripture to fit his political agenda. Because ironically, he hasn't looked looked inside. Fixing yourself will manifest as blessings for others. It's also pessimistic because we know that peace on Earth is impossible in this dispensation. No surprisingbthat Wright is a preterist, meaning he can hold on to optimism.

Haven’t seen Ross much lately since the media decided his never Trump analysis was no longer useful for them. Thiel of course was a supporter of Trump and has increased in influence, unlike Ross.

Good discussion. Why do people think that technological progress equates to human progress? Humans suck more than ever, the human genome is crashing. Technology lives separately as an accumulation of knowledge, like a stack of nuts gathered by so many squirrels. It is rather sad that it took six thousand years for man to develop the automobile and to discover the basic laws of physics and chemistry. No one man discovered anything in modern technology, but it required hundreds of men working in series, and finally aided by artificial intelligence, to accomplish these simple discoveries. If you took away technology, you would find a rotten and helplessly wicked, desperately stupid species in Homo sapiens, who has become utterly delusional in his unjustifiable pride. We can split the atom they say... no we cant, but sophisticated technology can. He who has ears to hear, hear. He who thinks that man is on an upwards climb rather than a downward spiral, prepare to drown in the bitter waters of wormwood. Mankind has failed. 1 Timothy 6:1, 3-7, 9-12, 20-21 "Let as many servants as are under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honour, that the name of God and his doctrine be not blasphemed... If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness; he is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings, perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself. But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. They that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life. keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called: which some professing have erred concerning the faith. Grace be with thee. Amen."

This is some the best the evangelical fundamentalists have? Pathetic. They don’t give me a sense that they understand anything about what they are saying. Ppl have to wake up before nothing is left of the Church.
