Doesn't losing all your lives and using a continue reset your score though? You could've gone the whole game normally, used a continue on the last zone, and gotten a minimum score from that, right? Not zero because of bosses, still, but lower than any other means.

Play the entire game without caring about points, and once Titanic Monarch starts, exit the stage and start the save file back up. Now you no longer have any points. Now all you have to do is avoid points in TMZ

I'm pretty sure that the level capsules are always present in the levels but they're "unreachable" unless you beat the boss, if you do, the capsule will fly down like it's supposed to do so you can finish the level. This is just a theory though. If it is true maybe it was just an oversight by the developers. Somebody should test this out.
