It's very fascinating I was visiting Pakistan and thinking why Christians look different than the local population. I did some research and chooras are same as shudras (Indian lower caste) and they converted to Christianity to escape discrimination but they still got discriminated because people recognize them as sweepers. In India they even use to remove feces with bare hands from fields :( but I learned it's better to call them isaee.

Where did the Chuhra caste come from? Somewhere online there is a claim that they were shipped in by the British from South/Central India. Is this true or are they actually the aboriginals of this region (Punjab/Pakistan). I feel for this community, they are doubly oppressed being both a religious minority and very poor. Pakistan is not a kind place for minorities or the poor, least of all if you are predominately non-muslim. My parents are from Pakistan but I am so lucky to have been born and brought up in a first-world country.

Caste system in subcontinent is much older. Most historians believe that Aryans introduced the caste system as a mean to control the local population. They ( Aryans) defined key roles in society, then assigned groups of people to them.

Their features tend to be different than other castes/tribes in the Punjab - not skin colour which is variable but they tend to have softer/rounder facial features.

@@dheerajdhanwal9118 Thanks. From what I know Bhils are present in Sindh and Rajasthan. But this community does not exist in Punjab (Indian or Pakistan side). They are a tribal people who speak an Indo-Aryan language but I do not know much about their ancestral components. I understand that you are saying that there was an indigenous tribal group in Punjab like the Bhils who were consolidated into the Chuhra caste as more "Aryan" people gained dominance in the region. I am very curious about this so thanks for your input. I will try to find out more.
