Hi Diane! just wanted to say a huge thank you for speaking about me and my channel! I really appreciate the shoutout and the kind words about my art and videos 😊 So happy to have discovered your channel because of this and looking forward to watching more! 🥰 Love how the seashells turned out, the warm background colour works so well at highlighting their patterns!

Thanks so much for this Katie, I was so happy to find you because you are so nice to listen to and watch, and you‘re so good at what you do. I‘m genuinely excited at the idea of using sketchbooks to paint in - I always used sketchbooks for literally sketching in prior to “proper“ painting! Wishing you all the best with your channel and I hope some of my folk cross over to you!

I am new to watercolor and at first I painted on loose sheets of paper or blocks. When I got to an ugly stage, I rarely finished. I had random sheets of watercolor paper all over my office ( now studio!) and was very discouraged. All that has changed with my decision to use a sketchbook. I feel much more compelled to finish each painting and it is great to easily go back and look at my progress. I use it for everything, making swatches, and painting “real” things, mainly flowers. With my birthday coming, I ordered Etchr sketchbooks. Until now I was using Artisto and I am quite happy with it but eager to try 100% cotton paper. I will likely try some landscape paintings based on your tutorials, Diane.

That’s brilliant, and I think you’re right, and this is something actually quite new to me although I’ve always had sketchbooks on hand they were only for preparatory sketches, not “real” paintings.

I am not one for using a journal but I do like the idea of binding the paintings together. I usually paint in 5" x 7" size and then any that don't get framed are turned into greeting/note cards that I use, sell, or donate. I've donated hundreds to a local group that helps seniors and they are now my biggest fans. I get emails from the recipients telling me how much they love my art. It really helps my ego. 🙂

The first painter that I started following 5 (?) years ago I have absolutely nothing in common with but she is a fountain of knowledge. I still follow her. I have a couple or so others that I follow for the same reason. I find I have learned so much from these, very different from my taste, artists.

Hi Sheila, glad you enjoyed this one! The weird thing about the weather is that it is still COLD although it’s almost the end of May! I’m still wearing winter clothes, and it’s crazy. Yes, Katie is a breath of fresh air and very illuminating as regards the younger generation and their take on art. I was amazed at the influence of Japanese art on her - the things which she brought back from her visit to Japan were just completely out of my familiarity zone!! That's wonderful!! I like all the different mediums that went into it. Whether or not you are the Queen of Kuretake I get excited when you pull out one or the other of those paint sets. I sure a lot probably wish you to move back onto the traditional paint boxes most of the time. Being 76 and just recently entering the world of wc, for some reason I just can't seem to get into the 2 that I have. I swatched them but seeing wonderful bright and in the case of the 'art nouveau' those lovely colors, it just makes me happy to look at the direct colors right in from of me....not having to learn the colors from constantly picking up a swatch card to figure out what dark color is what in the regular paint sets. I don't think I'll ever memorize what's what in those LOL. Anyway, Thanks for sharing this delightful piece and showing me how to use several dif mediums together in watercolor.
@DianeAntoneStudio6 ай бұрын
Hi Kathy and thanks for sharing your thoughts. There is no doubt that the Kuretake paints have changed my approach to art for the better. It’s easier to be bold and direct with them. But I still love the traditional paints, and the subtle way they work. Room for both in my life! You should use whatever you find easiest, there’s nothing you can’t do with the Kuretake paints, so why stress yourself out making life harder for no reason? Just have fun! Sending love xxx
