What also might be interesting information: Iloilo City has a retirement home with mostly international retirees who cant care for themselves anymore. Also Cebu has one of those. This might be an interesting topic for another video.. Not everyone is so fit and physically and mentally healthy as you, Dan :)

@@jamescalifornia2964 ..and many of the people working there hate their job and only did it because thats what they could get as a job.. ..with the common exception of a filipina elder care worker, as usual. I have a friend who owns a restaurant in Iloilo (in Jaro, pronounced "Harrow") called WAWA. The other one is Punot on the Esplanade. Both are very good. Also Bourbon Street (Smallville) is good. It reminds me more of an American restaurant. The food and the view are very good there.

Hi Dan, my research has brought me to the place of Puerto Princesa. It has gained the distinction of being a model city and an ecotourism haven. It has set the standard for environmental awareness and has the countries most acclaimed local government. Generally speaking Palawan is the cleanest and greenest place in the Philippines. Have a great day 😊

I've been hoping to hear your take on Iloilo City - great report per usual - it looks like a nice option for a long term visit or even retirement. Very clean and orderly, reasonable costs too (not the cheapest, but not the most expensive either). Been to Manila for a week, there's just "too much happening" for my taste, much prefer Cebu instead as I've spent nearly a month there. Next visit I hope to see Iloilo for at least a week if not longer. Limited vaca time from work holds me back from extended stays :-(

I’ve been watching for 3-4 years don’t comment often but If you guys are slow traveling north, I hope y’all stop on Tablas Island and the rest of the Romblon province. Great beach’s great diving and snorkeling it’s worth the visit few tourists. Binicot beach, Looc fish sanctuary, Turtle cove, the Blue Hole, BonBon Beach. I could go on and on but trust me lots to do great restaurants affordable prices for food and lodging and 40 min or less pump boat ride to Boracay. Same sand cleaner water and few tourists. If you have time stop and visit. 8 hours from IloIlo by bus and ferry.

Haven't visited any of them yet, so I guess that's what I need to do over the next 4 years. Already saw Samar, Leyte and Manilla. Samar and Leyte are beautiful but too provincial. Where I live in Virginia (USA), the closest town has a population of 3,000, and I live in the countryside about 10 miles away from that town. Better research the terrorist risk around Mindanao before travelling there. It varies up and down by regions and gov't efforts. One of my best friends is a native there, and Muslim, and it is she that warned me you need to know where the risky areas are, and she recommends as a general rule to just don't go into the rural areas at all.

Upside extremely beautiful area to live surrounded by mountains with a beautiful view of a 40 plus meter waterfall and small stream that lulls us to sleep every night. We are also blessed with a great ocean view of Apo island and Mindanao. Quiet and secluded. Downside, 11 kilometers to the highway mostly with grade 😂 and only about 2/3 of the road is paved. Almost any truck 2 or 4 wheel drive is fine and my xrm125 has no problem with both of us (we are both in good shape). Long way to medical / eating out 😢. Maybe it is just me but from photos of apartments and pricing the Philippines is actually very high priced relative to other se Asian countries. I look at the beds, furniture bathrooms and kitchens and everything is super cheap and very uncomfortable looking unless you are a backpacker. I just wish there were better options. The few decent places I found had rents around 1500-2000 dollars. I have lived all over in se Asia and this is a real shortcoming in my mind. I hope that I am wrong. In other se Asian countries comfortable modern units are around 700-1200 dollars. I find the Philippines as a trap. Easy to get a retirement visa but not really a great place to live and not really at a great price.

Health insurance is one of the most dynamic or changing industries in the travel world because so many people around the world are deciding to live or retire outside their home country. So do a search every year before you renew to make sure you have the best available for your personal circumstances because new ones come out every few months. Thanks for asking so I could answer this for many people! Dan

Baguio is the safest and cleanest city in the Philippines. Been to Iloilo and yes it's also clean but its only clean in some business areas and not the whole illilo city whereas when i stayed in Baguio, its very clean esp in residential areas. its like some villages in Korea or in Japan. Thats the very firet thing i noticed in Baguio; its their clranliness its not very common in some cities in the philippines.

@@iamedyboy This talk of "bubbles" is retarded, the most upscale developments like that are always going to be a smaller carve out of a larger area, and yes, it is cleaner.

It looks nothing like the US, if you want something that is that off the rails compared to the US, you may as well go to Vigan City.

It doesn't look like the USA. Way more tropical than South Florida. Banana trees.
