Had a boss who was terrified of snakes. A guy was being screwed over by the boss repeatedly so when he quit he brought in a corn snake and has a note strapped to it with “I quit mother fu…” and when the boss went home his house had been broken into and the guy who quit had purchased every single snake from everywhere he could and let them all loose in his house. Was nuts. Boss had a mental breakdown.

THAT is deliciously evil. As long as the snakes weren't venomous, I could ethically accept that.

He probably called a professional to remove them. My dad was into snakes. Had a huge one with its own apartment bedroom that he fed live chickens. One day it escaped. I can just imagine this huge snake slithering around an apartment complex scaring everyone.

This just reminded me of all of the terrible car dealerships I worked at from like 15-19 years old. I joined the Military and I swear I got screamed at working at a Nissan dealer more than I did in the military. That’s why I didn’t say anything when I quit, I got the where are you call and my response was “in the airport waiting on my flight to basic training” my manager started yelling so I just hung up. 10/10 experience.

A former colleague won the lottery. The winnings was more than enough money to live off for the rest of his and his wife's life. The next day he stepped inside the business, open beer in front of the manager (7 am drinking, yay) and handed over his work clothes and key. Didn't say anything. Just walked out to his wife waiting in the car and they drove away. Michael, you are one lucky bastard.

I didn't witness it, but a coworker quit midshift because she thought a ghost was haunting the house. Luckily the client really only needed care during the day and night was a just in case he had a medical emergency. To be fair, while the house was huge, beautiful, and on a lake, at night it was creepy and two other times separate girls called because they thought an intruder snuck in because of doors randomly closing. So maybe it was haunted.

I worked at a gas station while in Uni. the manager had only one volume level. "Scream at the top of your lungs!" I was accused at for stealing over $100USD in gas the day before. I yelled back, "How could I do that you idiot? I've been gone for over a week!" I let everyone at the school know what he pulled. One month later he was fired by the Owner for theft.

27:06 I used to have an awful fantasy when working as a chef, of being told I need to cover back-to-back shifts and looking the manage dead in the eye as I stab myself and calmly say, "Can't. Busy." I work overnight at a hotel now and am no longer an apathetic trainwreck.

@@inconnu4961 outpatient therapy, medication, and the grace of God, I guess. The day I looked at the rope pull on our attic door and wondered if it would hold my weight, I checked myself into a mental institution. The following Tuesday, I woke up to find that Anthony Bourdain had unalived himself, and that's when I knew I had to get out of food and beverage for good. I was able to parlay my customer service and money handling skills pretty well in hotels, and now I'm a supervisor. I got lucky with medication - you usually need to try a few before finding the sweet spot, but Lexapro was exactly what I needed the whole time. At the end of the day.... IDK, I wasn't as ready to head out as I thought, and being that close to the edge made me realize I needed help.

I got two. First one isn’t mine but a few coworkers told me this story from before my time. I work as a mechanic at a major railway. There was a supervisor, appearantly a really cool guy if a little disorganized and easily flustered. Appearantly one day he told the guys he was working with around lunch that he was going to get a sandwich. He never came back. Second is the mechanic we all hated who got mad, went on stress leave and then fell off the face of the earth. We have no clue what happened to him but when his leave ended he never showed.

My second job was as a restaurant porter. After being there a month, a dishwasher was heard screaming at the restaurant manager. He then stomped out, still yelling, "You are going to be so sorry!' I thought it was just some mouthy loser being making idle threats. In about a week and a half, he showed up wheeling a large rubber trash can. He pushed it up against the counter, lifted it by the wheels using the counter top as a support for the top, and the lid broke open spilling the nastiest dead raccoons on the counter, over to the kitchen. Side, and on the floor in front of the counter. He then grabbed the trash can, by the wheels and took off dragging the trash can out the fire door, leaving a trail of rancid raccoons that were likely putrefying in the trashcan over a week. He through the can in the back of his pickup truck and took off. With the door alarm buzzing loudly, maggots slithering all over the trail left and on the floor, rotting raccoons, disgusting black beetles eating the thick viscous pus-like fluid, and a pestilent stench that made several customers es vomit, everyone started leaving, whether they paid or not. I did not know what to do. The manager told the kitchen to stop cooking and turn off the equipment. He let all the customers go. The tables were full of spilt food, vomit, garbage, broken dishes, and spilt drinks. The manager told the servers and kitchen staff we had to clean it all up. Some employees said, "I get paid to cook," or, "I get paid to serve," and refused. The magaer wrote them up with a performance demerit. Most did not sign their demerit. Some quit and refused to sign and refused to clean. I was willing to help clean up when he told the kitchen staff they had to stay after close to clean. I just asked for a disposable overall plastic suit and long rubber gloves held on h tape at the wrists and the bottom of the plastic suit held in place with tape around the legs. However, the manager said all I could use were the short, latex, examination gloves, and my uniform. I was going to refuse, also. However, I asked for more money because hazardous material handlers got paid around $20 an hour, back then, which was a lot in 2004. He refused. So I just said I quit. Then a bunch of other people quit at the same time when they overheard me ask for the supplies and protection I need, and more moje. The restwurant closed and never recovered. It was demolished about a year later.

29:47 "... fired. On his way out, he was directed to HR." On whose authority? He was fired. No one at the place of employment has any say whatever any longer over what he does. Putting aside the ethical questions here, there's a lesson: Once you're fired, or have quit, THERE IS NO UNIVERSE IN WHICH IT IS WISE TO TALK TO HR ON YOUR WAY OUT. Duh. Freaking double duh. Edit: And to SIGN anything? Refuse! What're they gonna do? Fire you?

"... asks if they can come pick him up from our restaurant, which someone from the other restaurant did." I'm sorry, what? The "other restaurant" didn't see that as a red flag the size of a football field? 26:02 Weird off-hours meeting. Set your smartphone on record. Borrow a dead smartphone from someone (if you don't already have one) so that if you're asked to "leave your smartphone outside the meeting" you can leave the dead phone. Trust no one. Red flags all over the place. Edit: Okay, that ended differently from what I expected. 28:41 Tom is a legend. Customer was a twit with crossed palms and oak leaf cluster.

I had an odd one. We work pest control, doing termite and other wood destroying organisms. In this case, we were encapsulating a crawlspace. All that's really relevant is that it's a lot of dirty, difficult work. I had been mostly alone in clearing random junk out of the space, when one of our guys who had been on the phone not helping the entire time suddenly said that he needed to meet his girlfriend at x place for some reason. My coworker said I should take him, since I'd been doing most of the work so far, so I drove him to x place, then he instead said y place, so I drove him over there. When we got there, he just looked at me and said "here's the thing... I'm done." And then he just left. I had to inform my manager and coworker that he'd just quit
