And, even if you have a healer with you, is not like any person is willing to destroy their own eardrums, specially when we saw that basically only 3 people(Unohana, Orihime and Kenjiro) are skilled enough in Kido to basically regenerate someone

You forgot to mention that Ikkaku’s Bankai was broken then repaired. Mayuri said it’s been far weaker ever since. I’d feel sad for him if not for the fact that he is probably fine with it, since he wants to be Zaraki’s subordinate forever.

It was weak to begin with. He hadn't ANY seals on his reiatsu and he BARELY win against a Fracciones pretto weak. Heck,even Rangiku had better feat against the Thres Bestias which are undoubtely the strongest Fracciones and possibly comparable to the Privaron Espada.

@stefano cremonini stop. If Rangiku fought against Edard Liones instead of Ikkaku she would have been killed. Comparing Rangiku from Fake Karakura Town to Edard makes no sense, considering everyone has gotten stronger since Grimmjow and his fraccion invaded.

It always confuses me when people say Shuhei's bankai is weak. It guarantees a tie against literally any opponent. By definition he's not going to use it against those weaker than him, so it's only ever going to be used to force a draw out of someone who would otherwise have beaten him. And that's if he can't figure out some strategic way to suddenly cancel his bankai and secure the win.

And I like that it is symbolic of his Zanpakuto and Shinigami meaning as a whole. Also like that it's not just some big nuke like Soi Fon's who stops using it to focus on her Shunko.

Not really, it just takes someone having an ability or item that doesn't require reiatsu, or a friend, and he's done for. It's powerful but it's pretty bad to use if you don't have any proxies and you don't know if they do or don't.

Shuheis is definitely not weak truly weak Bankai would Komamuras , Shinji's and Soifon's .

I like the concept of a weak Bankai because we are led to believe that it takes hundred and thousands of years to attain and master a bankai and a lot of the shinigami on this list and the ones we’ve met throughout the series are fairly “young” captains and bankai users. It leads to believe that a lot of these draw backs could be eliminated with more training and experience. The evolution of renjis bankai is a perfect example. Going from barely being able to fight a base byakuya coz it was so clumsy. To one shotting a sternritter in its new compact and versatile form.

It makes you appreciate Yamamoto's Bankai. How many hundreds of years of lessons and growth did it take for him to achieve South and North? Even a thousand years ago, he was holding back the power of East and West. It's possible that the first time he achieved Bankai, he got the same "that's not a Bankai, screw you" reaction that Ichigo got, or got slapped down easily.

Nop Rengi Bankai is the the true name/forme of bankai but he need 10 year for master, same for Rukia. Cant wait for Hell arc more the 10 year after.

Ichigo's original Bankai. Oh, don't me wrong, its still damn cool to this day with the black blade and that awesome Neo-esque coat that he is wearing. But other than that, it does quite literally nothing other than speed him up and change Getsuga Tenshou from blue to red. Its kind of amusing in restrospect (given what we later learn about its true nature) that Byakuya's first response upon seeing it was, ''you are lying to me. That thing absolutely cannot be your Bankai.''

Kubo nerfed the hell out of him. Went from speed blitzing Byakuya to getting washed by base Grimmjow an arc later. And then Byakuya is later able to keep up with the fastest sonido user😂😂

@@oh-turkeybird eh, zenkai boosts are def a thing in bleach. The Byakuya in the arrancar arc was stronger than the soul society one. It seems like the soul reapers as a whole beefed up their training after the ichigo&co invasion

I actually was thinking the same thing. It's just a stat buff and nothing else. I still hope that this is specifically because it was not a true bankai and that if we ever see more of him that there is more to his true bankai than we have seen so far. It'd be very cool if there were some sort of trick to it, something more interesting than just fast guy with sword.

@@greyborg3846 Especially since we know that Getsuga Tenshou is a Shiba family attack that his dad knows too so it's not even unique to him, and his moves were all things that Zangetsu came up with before Ichigo did, or basic expressions of his powers. We've never seen Ichigo do something that is uniquely based on his personality with his fake or real Bankai, the way that every other Shinigami's Bankai is an expression of their true selves for better or worse.

To be fair to Shinji, it's so much more obvious, while Rose actually did decieve Mask. Shinji's shikai was obviously turning everything inverted.

I’d say most flawed bankai instead of weak. All the bankais listed have great power but the drawbacks almost make them not worth in their current states. Sajin’s in particular grants him almost immeasurable power, but it makes him an even bigger target, and every enemy he faces chooses to ignore him and strike the city sized giant construct. If his bankai amped his defensive abilities made him tankier it’d be worth it, or at least removed the shared damage altogether, but it doesnt.

If he could coordinate with his own Bankai and use it to tag team against an opponent I think it'd be far more interesting. It would probably be extremely difficult to wield effectively, but if he could I think it would make it very powerful and extremely cool to watch.

Not even that. If Sajin invested in some great Kido, he would basically have the great of both worlds. As his Bankai is the only one who also heals with the user, if he pulled an Unohana and learned Kido to cure himself mid battle, he could overcome almost any damage done to him, while his opponent has basically no way to cure themselves. Or, if he had a lieutenant with Kido speciality to server as his aid in that

I actually really like Kensei's Bankai. If he were fighting any other Sternritter I don't know that they would have survived his punches. It seems to literally eviscerate anything within it's direct vicinity, and Mask De Masculine only survived because he's practically impossible to kill.

Soi-Fon already made some significant growth with her Bankai. She was able to whip it out and use with ease in the TYBW arc. The backlash was nowhere NEAR as brutal in the FK arc and she could use it in a near death state. It was also stated that BG9's Volsterndig ressurected him, so it did technically kill him. Can't really blame Soi-Fon for him not staying dead. Plus, forget about using it in a direct fight, If she used it like an assassin: bunkering down and using it on an unassuming enemy, it would easily be one of the most deadly and terrifying Bankai in the series. I mean, imagine if Lille used it when sniping the Gotei in the palace invasion arc. He'd have wiped out the entire party in one move. That's the terror of Soi-Fon's Bankai if used properly.

Even in FKT she already made significant improvement with her Bankai, relative to the statements she made on it. 1) Using it once every 3 days -> can use it twice in 1 day. 2) Needing a steel sash to tie herself down -> her Bankai's recoil is too strong for the sash Then again...I question if that's improvement on Jakuho Raikoben per se as opposed to Soifon herself just being significantly stronger than herself the last time she used or trained with the Bankai (improved stamina and Reiatsu to fire multiple shots, and firing stronger shots) as a result of her general training.

The true irony of Ikakku's bankai is that it requires him to be cautious, and delicate, and use more than just brute force, which completely goes against his overall fighting style and code. Sure, he has tools to heal wounds and such but he generally follows his squad ideology of just enjoying the fight and thinking about the consequences later.

That seems to be the theme for Squad 11, though. Their motto is “A good fight no matter what”, and they’re - or at least, the captain and his third and fourth seat - willing to handicap themselves in various ways to ensure a bloody fight. Holding back full power, using only melee, using a counter-intuitive fighting style, whatever it takes.

He also actively dislikes that he has a Bankai, which probably is one of the reasons it is flawed. He thinks that if he reveals that he has a Bankai he will be forced to leave squad 11 for some reason. A bankai that the user does not like does not work well, you see the same issue with Yumichika's Shikai which is magic based but when used in most cases is just extra blades because he does not want to use it. It seems like a moderate amount of therapy would greatly increase the powers of almost every soul reaper.

Actually, it has been shown several times that Ikakku has a fantastic fighting sense and that he is very much cautious. his shikai is a wonderful example of it: a simple but effective weapon in order to manipulate the battlefield to your advantage. And then you get to his bankai. It's the perfect example of who ikakku is: lazy. Lazy to move forward with the spectacular gifts he has, lazy to leave his captain's shadow, and lazy when it comes to taking a fight seriously. Sure, squad 11 code has a part in it, but only a part.

Ichigos bankai after the Soul Society arc is so nerfed. It’s biggest strength is it’s speed but every time it’s shown after the Byakuya fight he’s barely able to keep up with base arrancars and gets speed blitzed by Grimmjow.

Honestly I was happy he got a new Zanpakuto in TYBW and I did like his Fullbring Bankai along with his Dangai form. As those are far more interesting than his Non-Bankai Bankai form

If the Espada were quicker than Byakuya at base then that’s one thing but then Byakuya himself goes to head to head with the fastest Espada (7) without issue. Ichigo got nerfed cuz Kubo realized he made him too powerful early on

@Turkey Byakuya wasn't even fighting at full strength when he did that. There are plenty of characters in Bleach who are faster than both Byakuya and Ichigo. How is Ichigo nerfed when that's not even his real bankai. Nor has Ichigo ever trained as a shinigami.

RIP in pieces Ikkaku's bankai. on another note, I wonder if Soifon's bankai is so unweildy because she doesn't actually train with it. She's definitely expressed her distaste for it so I wouldn't put it past her to not train with it either and thus resulting in what we see in the story. We've seen how bankais can develop over time with training and mastery so I wonder if hers has stagnated because of her preference towards her shikai form.

I feel like a lot of the time, the Shikai was thought out before adapting it to a Bankai, making them more effective. For example Komamura's Bankai is vulnerable because it's so big, but the Shikai seems to just be the arm and sword appearing out of nowhere, which is way better.

I think this is most visible with Hitsugaya. His shikai is summoning an ice dragon. Neat! And it can do...actually, anything ice related really. And then for his bankai he becomes part ice dragon and that lets him do...the same ice stuf, but more? Its vague andconfusing really. And instead of going Komamura route and just letting the character stay in that state for majority of the story, Kubo keeps adding on weird powers to his bankai and they pile on with less and less sense. A cool pilar of ice. - Rukia already kinda had that, but cool. Controling weather. - Fine. Ice clones. - What? Freezing others abilities - ...what - and it also makes him a grown up!

@@Reqviemus Are we ignoring the fact that he can use the sky as a weapon (against Harribel), nullify abilities, freeze the elements such as air and fire (according to him), allows him to flash freeze and shatter enemies (as seen with Shawlong and Mayuri), and control all water in the atmosphere within his vicinity. His Shikai never came close to these abilities. Same with Komamura's Bankai. It has some massive tactical advantages in terms of defending allies and actually tanking attacks. Imagine someone like Soifon or Ulquiorra launches a nuke at a group of weaker enemies. His bankai can be used as a wall against the attack. And remember, just because his Bankai is tied to Komamura's body, does not mean they share the same durability. What sounds more difficult? Wounding a regular sized man or an armoured giant? There are some tactical advantages that make it more suitable to situations his Shikai cannot handle. Similar to Shinji, Hisagi, Rukia and Rose's Bankai.

The anime cut this line but when ichigo goes to the research lab post first invasion kurotsuchi says akon managed to superficially repair ryumon hozukimaru but it's much much weaker than before while explaining the permanence of bankai destruction

Soifon's bankai might be OP in future, she can barely use it without using up all her reiatsu, she can only use one move and she doesn't have a close relationship with it, which might mean it still hasn't revealed it's true power to her

Soi Fon wants to be a cool assassin surpassing Yoruichi, and she hates her immature outbursts. So her Bankai is literally an immature outburst that she hates to use. If she learns to embrace her true self, I wouldn't be surprised if she learns a totally different name for her Bankai and it becomes way more useful.

Her and her bankai are crippled by the plot to be nothing more than a gauge to show the reader an enemies strength or only able to take out fodder cause she's a supporting character and not well liked so she's not getting any big moments lol

I'm really sad we didn't get to Rose v Tousen. Because if there is one person who would've been susceptible to Rose's bankai, it'd be Tousen. I suspect Kubo would've given Tousen some kind of plot armor to get around it. But the idea of Rose going up against the one person who would be sensitive to sound based illusions is just too good to pass up.

I think you can't rank Shuhei's bankai in a normal manner. It's so niche and the ability is so unique. It's also insanely useful in specific situatioms but insanely weak in others. It's so weird and interesting makes it super hard to place.

Yes you can. Its garbage because its useless against a weaker opponent and it in a best case scenario against a Stronger Opponent forces a Draw. Even if he manages to undo it before the combined Reiatsu is depleted he gets the same amount of Reiatsu back as his opponent (percentage wise). So the stronger opponent is still Stronger if a bit more exhausted. Its worse then any Bankai on this list because its "too fair" to the Opponent.

I think what helps Tensa Zangetsu is the fact that, unlike nearly every other Bankai shown, it doesn't consume so much power to maintain (especially when coupled with Ichigo's already massive reserves). It's one of those helpful factors that prevent it from being so bad like Kokujō Tengen Myō'ō being the only Bankai capable of repair.

The cost initially was that it broke Ichigo's bones in a protracted fight, as a result of all his energy being compressed for so long. Then he gets black getsuga tensho, allowing him a release valve to prevent that from happening. Funnily enough this actually results in Ichigo's bankai being weaker in subsequent appearances, as without the hyper compression of his energy he loses the speed that comes with it in exchange for a bankai that can be used for absurdly long periods with a smaller stat boost.

I honestly believe that Rukia's bankai is of the same "type" as Yamamoto. Given a few hundred of years to master it it would become one of the most powerful bankai of all time.

Thats Hyorinmaru. that one will become like yamamoto over time. Toshiro's zanpakuto is the strongest ice type .

@@abhisheknag4773 Rukia's isn't exactly an ice type as much as it has the ability to freeze things. Much like how Yamomto's zanpakto isn't a fire type, but specifically has the power to burn. What I meant more was things like his resurrecting flame zombies and burning away reshi. I think Rukia could have similar types of abilities. Whereas Hyorinmaru will focus more on creating and controlling ice as it gets more powerful.

I'm also going to make a general argument for all of those Bankai that cannot be used because they kill or injure your allies. They are the quintessential definition of ''Awesome but Impractical.'' What good is a nuke that you can only occasionally use when your opponent has a less flashy move that he can nevertheless use against you 100% of the time? Totally unrelated to Bleach, but I’ve got a fun fact about the Indiana Jones scene you mentioned: There was supposed to be a full-length sword duel between Indy and the Swordsman(the swordsman is on the original poster for the film, suggesting a bigger role than the scene he ended up with). However, Harrison Ford was suffering from food poisoning during that part of filming, and didn’t feel up to filming such a sequence. He suggested an alternative version where he simply shoots the swordsman and the filmmakers agreed. In the end, this scene became very iconic so it was a good change in the end. It’s also pretty funny too.

Bankai are supposed to be trump cards, it's not something you're supposed to use 100% of the time. It's supposed to be saved for a critical moment where it wins the battle for the user. That's kind of the issue with the younger generations of Captains: they're too reliant on their bankai and don't spend nearly enough time honing their Shikai and support abilities like Kido and Hoho.

That is the thing. Bankai is only suppose to be used as a last resort. Being surrounded by massive numbers of lesser enemies, or against powerful enemies. Mastery of a bankai normally means mastery of their shikai as well. The two are suppose to feed into one another. The larger the effective area the larger the benefit to the user.

Think you're underselling how dramatic the boosts from Tensa Zangetsu are. Byakuya is considered one of the faster shinigami and Ichigo could have killed him at least twice literally too fast for him to react and while in Bankai himself. You really have to consider what a bloodbath it would have been to set Grimmjow out amongst the Soul Society arc Gotei 13.

While I understand the drawbacks of Kokujo Tengen myo-oh put Sajin's bankai at a disadvantage in most cases, I always find it unfortunate his bankai is always on the weakest lists. But it's not the fault of the viewer; the issue is what was explored in the source material. I find it unfortunate that Kubo didn't explore how else his bankai could be used other than having the giant avatar copy his movements. Bleach: Brave Souls explores the Bankai using Hado (no 31) and having the Hado be supersized. I would have also loved to see how he makes up for the weakness, other than "hit things harder." Sajin isn't known to be a speedy character, but he isn't slow, either. I mean he's a captain for a multitude of reasons. It would have been nice to see him use a mix of both speed and strength. Do something to Tosen other than "hit him hard." Finally, I would have loved to see how resourceful Sajin is with his bankai. I mean he is a part of the beast clan. Beasts and/or animals use the environment around them. It would have been great to have Sajin use the trees for offense or defense, steel beams on a building as a kind of secondary weapon, parts of buildings as a shield, etc. Something to indicate that the avatar has more to it than being big. I think of his avatar like a gundam: It's a humanoid weapon that exceeds the expectation of war. While there is no "if the gundam gets hurt, the pilot doesn't," the pilot is still in danger while in the cockpit. ANd when they are in danger or need to move tactically in a brute of a machine, they use the environment around them. It's super weird that Sajin doesn't do the same. I'm biased as Sajin is my favorite character in bleach. I find it unfortunate most of his bankai is, "oh, look at big thing." I think so much could have been explored to take it off the weak Bankai lists. This is one of the few bankai that could have been further explored if given the necessary time. Its limitations could have also given Sajin strengths in other areas. And then take away those limitations in the TYBW and you have a practically unstoppable bankai.

its hard to wright for things like komamuras bankai since it does what you think it does it one-shots things and takes pretty much no damage from most attacks. and just because i see alot of other stupid comments saying his bankai somehow just makes him a bigger target i want to point out his bankai is FAR more durable then kamamura himself like when it got hit by tosens Los Nueve Aspectos and komamura was still alive very few if any characters could survive a direct hit from that. it just bugs me that if somethings not vastly overpowered or cheap its weak by idiot standards.

I think the opponent's morals are also important. Since his Bankai works by turning allies into enemies and enemies into allies, I'm not sure it'll be effective on someone with zero conscience. Aizen and Yhwach would (and have) happily cut down their "allies" to get what they want. Heck, Kenpachi and Nnoitra might not be all that affected given their sheer bloodlust. Byakuya might also be able to fight off the effect or at least handle it since, as seen with Tsukishima, even altering his memories to make it seem you were always his friend didn't work.

If Aizen or Yhwach comes out even with a little damage that is a win. So after they kill their allies he switch back to his Shakai. A great way to remove the number advantage and at least keep his opponents occupied.

@@blakemoore2660 But, in this scenario, Aizen and Yhwach's "allies" are their actual enemies before Shinji's bankai took effect. Suppose Shinji used it on Aizen during the fake Karakura town arc. That would make the Gotei 13 and the Visored Aizen's new allies. Given that Aizen has no qualms about cutting his actual allies, this would mean that Aizen would still turn his sword against the shinigami. Same with Yhwach. Even if Shinji used it on him, he'd still attack the shinigami. I suppose you could say that their original allies turned enemies would attack them and they would be "forced" to cut them down, thereby reducing their military strength. But when you're Aizen and Yhwach losing your entire force isn't that big of a deal, what with them being stronger than their entire army put together. But it still doesn't guarantee Shinji's safety. It seems his bankai is only effective on fodder or those weaker or equal to him and has a moral conscience not to attack their allies. But given that literally both main villains in Bleach are the strongest in the series far eclipsing almost everyone save for the main character (at the end), plus are amoral, I doubt it'll do much for Shinji.

Hisagi's bankai is like kindred's ultimate ability in league of legends. It's actually one of the best ults, because it can save you from dying, while buying enough time for your teammates to close in on the enemy. Hisagi is just a team player.

Regarding Ichigo's original Bankai, i agree it's one of the weakest, but it's very first display against Byakuya was arguably its best showing. He completely speed blitzed Byakuya twice and could have killed him instantly. The problem was the same as Rukia's in that it was destroying Ichigo's own body due to his lack of experience. He never again displayed the kind of ridiculous speed and power it first demonstrated and it basically just became equivalent to a shikai after that.

This is a thought I have whenever the weakness of Ikkaku's Bankai is discussed and it's that, while it may be true his Bankai isn't particularly strong, he was able to narrowly take out Edrad before the employment of Gentei Kaijo whereas the other captain-level shinigami were constantly on the back foot against similarly powerful opponents until Gentei Kaijo was given. Seeing as both Toshiro and Renji were unable to beat their opponents prior to Gentei Kaijo, I believe Ikkaku's Bankai is/had the potential to be stronger than theirs were at that time in the story. Despite its lack of versatility, I do believe it would beat out Hihio Zabimaru and should be raised a place, or at the very least, given a little more respect.

I think Shuhei's Bankai could be used more creatively, unless I am misunderstanding something how it works. Does it only attach to a specific person and isolate them? For example, Hisagi could use his Bankai on an ally and then go into battle and he'll be perfectly fine no matter the injuries he takes on.

I'm surprised Shinji's Sukishima Yokoshima Hapofusagari wasn't an honorable mention. It has the opposite problem as Shuhei's bankai taken to an equal extreme. An incredibly powerful bankai that's theoretically worthless 1v1, and outright detrimental in team fights. Sakanade as a whole is a great zanpakuto, but the bankai alone is a last resort ability for very specific situation. I'm also surprised to see Rose's bankai, considering that if you only consider abilities in a vacuum, Kyoka Suigetsu also doesn't work against people who can't see. Don't get me wrong, I'm not entertaining that Rose and Aizen would be on equal footing. I'm making the comparison because Aizen demonstrates how a built-in counter can be compensated for. If we saw Rose using things like Kido and Cero in conjunction with his bankai, then I feel like it would look much more impressive.

To be fair, yes Kyouka Suigetsu can be countered if the opponent is blind. At the same time, it's Aizen shikai ability as compared to Rose's bankai. Though we may never know what Aizen's bankai is, assuming he has one which I believe he does, at least Aizen has that trump card in his arsenal. Whereas in Rose's case, it was his trump card that was so easily countered.

So someone who is blind like Tosen can never be manipulated by Aizen's shikai as he can't see the release of the sword. However, if you go blind after already seeing it then Kyoka Suigetsu should still work. Remember how Ichigo was never affected by Kyouka Suigetsu because he never saw its release.

If you are caught and *only then* lose your vision, you are still fucked Also, I'd argue losing sight is a lot worse than losing hearing. I've always enjoyed the parallels you can draw between Ikkaku and his bankai and how it perfectly fits that it ended up the way it did. Zanpakuto reflect the shinigami but it's not always 1:1. In this case, Ikkaku's refusal to go all out in order to stay under Zaraki's command seems to have translated to a 'lazy' zankapkuto. Unless spurned into action, it doesn't give its all even when (or maybe even because of) bankai has been activated. And this reluctance to show his true power might cause a second effect of a brittle bankai. He may have a more positive relationship with his sword compared to Yumichika, but that dissonance can still cause issues with how the sword releases its power. Would coming to terms with this flaw of his make his bankai less fragile? Probably not, but it's likely still connected.

Surprised Kaname Tōsen's Suzumushi Tsuishiki: Enma Kōrogi didn't make the list as it is one of if not the weakest area of effect Bankais in the story. Not only take someone with a slightly faster reaction speed to him to counterattack or deflect the worse of his attacks, the biggest flaw is that if Kaname ever loses his grip on his blade he will also fall victim to his Bankai's effect, meaning he would need to deactivate it to recover.

Wrong. The only reason Kenpachi even survived Tosen's bankai was because of plot armor. All Tosen needs to do is decapitate his opponent while they can't sense his attack and they're finished.

I could see an evolved version of Soi Fon's bankai where instead of being one big bomb, the missile casing instead opens up and fires loads of mini missiles from within. A possible secondary effect of her shikai could be that the markings she leaves could act as, well, markings for the missiles to actively seek.

The thing is, though, one could theoretically disarm him and force him into a further state of senselessness and obviously defenselessness? How many strikes from Suzumushi would it take for someone not named Kenpachi to figure out what he of all people did?

I mean, even if you figure it out, there's the clear thing of: "You, a person who relied on senses for hundreds of years, how has to be senseless" while Tousen has always been senseless. Yes, you can feel the impact of the blade, but, not everyone will be able to react as fast, you might also enter in a panic mode. Though, someone like Byakuya, or Toshiro could just spread their abilities around and basically win, or Kenpachi being a monster, it's still a pretty strong Bankai, as you basically have the complete advantage in the scenario

Tousen bankai is one of the best, he have destroy all futur vizored befor Aizen make the transformation. With Zaraki if he want to kill with the first attaque he win but kubo dont want it...and zaraki is special after first try he can react like no other one. And i add this, Tousen can bakudo for immobilize Zaraki an instant and just kill it with zampakuto. Or just use hado for hit zaraki.

So, do a video perfecting each of the "bad" bankai. Like Ikkaku, if it was at full power on awakening, the big middle blade was actually protruding from his shoulder blades and the two other blades were smaller and connected as a shaolin Spade, but that he could extend with Riatsu to any length to give him back his range. Then as he battles and learns his opponents techniques it just gets infinitely more powerful. Like Broly from DBZ or The Hulk. The more he fights, the stronger he gets.

I feel as though the reason most of these fall short is because they’ve gone up against stronger opponents, if not the wrong kind of enemy. For example Soifon’s bankai would be great for eliminating huge swaths of hollow, but instead it’s used to hit 1 super powered Arrancar😅

Nah the Main problems for most of the Bankai are: The user doesnt shut the fuck up about it and its used against the Wrong opponent. Of all the enemys attacking Fake Karakura Town only Barragan and Aizen (thanks to the Hogyokus healing) are able to survive in Soifons case. Stark, Harribel, Gin or Tosen would all have surely died or would have been severly crippled. The only Bankai that is really garbage and made it into the Top 9 is Ikkakus Bankai because its slow and frail.

Soi Fon can only nut once every 3 days, so it should at least be able to significantly damage even stronger opponents. That’s when you need the most out of your abilities. I think it would have been more cool if each bankai did weird things that could potentially kill even much stronger opponents if used properly.

I kind of feel like Tousen's Bankai could be included on here for similar reasons to Rose. In theory it should be a one shot kill if you're inside of it, but Kenpachi proves that isn't the case by feeling where Tousen is going to attack from. If a Soul Society Kenpachi could do that, I feel like any capable captain class level character would be able to do the same and avoid the one shot kill and potentially even counter attack which destroys the bankai itself if Tousen takes enough damage. On top of that it's also an AOE Bankai, which means if you have the speed available to you, you can escape it while it's in the slow process of starting itself up. Most characters in the series are more than likely fast enough to get out of range of the attack which just forces Tousen to waste his own energy setting it up and giving his opponent the advantage since he now has to deactivate it and approach them.

Tousen’s bankai is one of the best. He coulda just decapitated Zaraki and it woulda been over… but the story is the story for the writer. He was literally a 5th seat and took down Kensei and his squad with it during turn back the pendulum. The problem with comics is that characters have to explain their powers to the readers and that’s basically what happened to Tousen and Rose. If not, you’ll have a situation like Unohana where no one knows what the hell is going on and all we can do is guess…

The things you said about Rukia’s bankai being new and possibly getting getting stronger and evolving in the future as she gets more experience with it can be applied to Hisagi’s bankai as well. Hisagi may have the same problem as Renji, where his zanpakuto gave him a false name. Renji was given a false name because Zabimaru thought he wasn’t strong enough yet. Whereas Kazeshini may give Hisage a false name because Hisagi says he doesn’t like the shape of his shikai.

Shuhei: Bankai end automatically when the Shinigami is near death, so presumably it wouldn't reach the point of actual death for either participant (barring weird conditions that mean both of them would be too weak when the effect ended, but were strong enough to continue during the Bankai). Its main tactical advantage would be if he can end it at will, in an instant before dealing a lethal blow. I only know of what happens in CFYOW from second-hand sources, so I'm not sure if that's how it ends up being used or not. Rose: Restoring limbs and body parts isn't so much common in Bleach; rather, the story tends to focus on characters that can heal extreme wounds. Being immune to the Bankai is certainly an advantage, but most characters would've lost their hearing semi-permanently (they'd need powerful Kido, Instantaneous Regeneration, or Orihime's ability to reject events to recover). The Superstar's powers allowed for that option (and Mask was easily willing to take that option), so imo it's a bad match-up. 100% agree that Rose shouldn't have explained it. Rukia: It's an extreme Bankai, and she'd need something like Barragan's ability to keep his Respira from affecting him to truly master it. If it could freeze/solidify Reishi to the point that Quincy couldn't access/absorb it, it could be truly terrifying against the Sternritter as a whole. Mayuri: Yep. Not really much to add. It'd be effective against large numbers of weak enemies, but not so much in the major one-on-one battles that Bleach tends towards. Ichigo: Agreed. Sui-feng: Within the metric of "what's shown in the series," I agree, but I feel it has a lot of untapped potential. I think I commented about it on another of your videos, but if she's able to reproduce the missile, then that's not a part of her Bankai. To clarify, TYBW specifies that damage to a Bankai is permanent and can't be healed (though repairs & remodels are, I'm not clear on the distinctions). The fact that she can produce a second missile, while exhausting for her, suggests that the nature of her Bankai is to create the projectiles - like a queen bee. As one of the younger captains, and someone whose role is at odds with her true nature, I'm thinking she may have an incomplete Bankai akin to Renji's Hihio Zabimaru. Komamura: It's a bit like a Resurreccion, and he might've been better off if he could be inside the Bankai rather than standing awkwardly in front of it. I can't remember Komamura ever using shunpo (let alone while in Bankai), but I'd imagine Kokujo Tengen Myo'o zipping around at intense speed would've helped him substantially. It could be a limitation due to the size (eg. if he had to move as if he was carrying that intense weight), but it seemed like its potential was never reached. Kensei: His Bankai feels like a weaker version of Gantenbainne's Dragra to me, and that's just sad. Again, maybe Mask was just a bad match for him. Not really sure what else to say. Renji: If he could grow/regrow segments over time, it might be more impressive. Would definitely like it if he could still use Hihio in his new version of Bankai, perhaps in a similar manner to Zanka no Tachi having multiple forms (which are mostly just fire, aside from the army of charred skeletons it can summon, but could suggest that other mastered Bankai are capable of much more than they initially seem to). Ikkaku: Like with Renji and Sui-feng, it's possible Ikkaku's Bankai has a lot of hidden potential that the version shown misses out on. The Muramasa filler arc has Hozukimaru use the individual weapons during Bankai (as in, not chained together), and has the dragon mark from the centre weapon as a tattoo. If the core of his Bankai is the gradual build-up of Reiatsu, rather than the physical weapons themselves, he could have a much higher potential than was ever realized in the series. If all he ever gets are the same weapons that broke the first time he ever needed to use them, then that's extremely disappointing.

quick tought, anyone else noticed that in episode 6 when real juhabach appears through squad 1 barracks after meeting with aizen, yamamoto screams okikiba his first squad officer which points to him being dead, but after a while when kyoraku gets promoted he appoints his nana-chan and okikiba as his oficers? small but great detail

I think it says alot that even these "weakest" bankais, they are still very strong conceptually or as an idea. It just goes to show, even if the power level of a bankai could be lower in bleach, that doesn't make it any less fun or interesting to learn about. My personal favourite though it was merely an honourable mention is Hisagi's bankai. I've always loved his aesthetic, and his bankai I think makes for a very interesting one.

I don’t consider Hisagi’s Bankai weak. In fact, it’s most useful against a very powerful opponent. All he has to do while in Bankai is keep the fight going until both combatants are equally drained of most reiatsu and be at close range when he ends the Bankai. Switch immediately to Shikai - during which Hisagi cannot be killed - and kill his opponent when they are at equal strength.

about Soi Fon bankai, Barragan got hit directly only 2nd time (he said he is seriously injured), when she already lost a lot of power (shot it before once already and lost an arm) and vs BG9 idk why Kubo couldnt give her a kill (BG9 was forced to retreat and died offscreen)

What about Tousen's Bankai, it doesn't do very much outside of making it really hard to fight back from his attacks, essentially it doesn't even do more than Hirako's Shikai, since it can be negated by grabbing Tosens blade.

It’s still a powerful Bankai whether he gets 1 or many people inside its range. In a fight, losing your senses is the worst thing that can happen unless you have someone with great instincts like Zaraki.

As I find that Ukitake's would be him directly reflecting a skill/power/technique back to its source. I'm referring more to Komamura's durability, with him and his giant taking damage and then directly returning that absorbed damage in a more direct and brutal manner. Whilst similar, the idea would be "you hit me, and I shall pay you back two-fold."

Ikkaku's bankai is legitimately just a LIMITER on his power output based on how *fun* his fight was so far. Komamura's bankai does have a benefit, but also makes him a target that's impossible to miss, thus invalidating it as a strategic option against anybody strong enough to warrant using a bankai against in the first place. It simply has to be one of those two, as every other bankai is at least beneficial to use.

You forgot Shinji's bankai, he can't use it in TYBW because of its abilities, it can make your enemies to allies and allies to enemies, the problem is he can't use it if he has allies near him or on one-on-one situation.

What is sad is that some of the Bankai were only cool in the non-cannon Zanpakuto rebellion arc. Being that its one of the more popular arcs in the series, it has me thinking that even though the trope of some tag along thing manifesting as a "soul" has been done elsewhere, it would have been an interesting aspect to be able to see their Zanpakuto spirits more often in some what during the series, its really an interesting concept that wasn't used outside of the one arc and of course some aspect of the fighting. Also almost everyone loved Yachiro, but I don't think in any way they should all be children, maybe they could all be a bit different from animals to mythical beings, to of course playful child spirits tagging along.

Kensei is one of my favourite characters in Bleach and I always like his Bankai, if he gets one hit on anyone with it seems it would be a guaranteed win, it's not a flashy design but incredibly powerful. It's just a shame that the times he's used Bankai it has been against opponents that had a 'catch' to counter it. After watching this vid it just makes me sad that it's hasn't had time to really shine. I want to see him throw fists like Grimmjow did against Ichigo when he first appeared and then just watch the opponent completely disintegrate like One-Punch Man just hit them.

In Roblox, there is a Bleach game, where you get your very own, personal and unique Shikai and Bankai. In my case, my Shikai: "Ryodoappu, Kozumikkuaro" ( Load up, Universal Arrows) ability was a literal recreation of Chibaku Tensei from Naruto Shippuden. But my Bankai: "Kozumikkuaro: Toki no Itowohiku" (Universal Arrows: Pulls of Time strings) had the ability to use gravity, in order to control time. I could kill hollows multiple times, i could freeze time, or even create Future slashes that overlapsed each other, dealing more damage. And that was just one of the few A class! A Double S class Bankai was Aizen's, while an F class was something like Tensa Zangetsu or Ryumon Hozukimaru. Not only that, but you could level up your shikai's ability...and imagine the following scenario: You have this shikai with the gravity of our sun and bankai that freezes time, and you go up against Ulqiora in his Secunda Etapa.

You say "weakest" yet you attribute this to rukia when her weakness isnt synomous with her power directly, her bankai is one of the most powerful in TYBW due to it's ability to freeze at absolute 0 which if you know physics is impossible as this means all matter stops its motion and has an inertia of 100%. This violates countless laws of physics and isn't technically possible, it's so potent atoms, subatomic particles, particles on the quantum scale all cease motion thus have no energy which violates the most important fact in physics is that matter is energy in another form (mass) and vice versa, where all matter has energy and all particles are in motion be it momentum, angular momentum, spin, all energy functions involving motion (kinetic energy), absolute 0k induces a 0 state energy where it would violate Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle, which states that the location and momentum of a particle cannot be known at the same time. A particle at absolute zero would be at rest, so both its position, and momentum being 0, would be known simultaneously. At this Temperature it is an entropically defined quantity that effectively determines the number of thermodynamically accessible states of a system within an energy range. Absolute zero physically possesses quantum mechanical zero-point energy, essentially when any object freezes its particles lose energy and occupy and lower kinetic and heat energy state, particles of an object that is frozen do move even just below 0k say 0.001......k but when it hits absolute 0k, it's that its such an abslute degree that no matter has energy to move on even the smallest observable degree (planck length,10^-33 metres) and lower. Electrons would function at the fermi level, electrons being fermions operate under something called the pauli exclusion principle, which states fermions cannot exists as identical energy states "EVER", so electrons will pack into a fermi sea of lowest energy available electrons to never rise higher unless acted upon by an externa force/energy. When all electrons within rukias range of her bankai are at 0k then they go into a state of fermi level, normally electrical and thermal properties function at a fraction of an eV but at 0k it becomes an order of eV (electron volt) thus electrons cannot recieve energy from those functions to exist in higher energy states. This means electrical energy flow, thermal properties and so on will fail to function at any other degree than the ripple of fermi sea which is the maximum energy an electron can occupy at 0k. The implications of this shikai and bankai alone are disgusting, yes its a damaging bankai and causes her to die just in shikai but to say this is a weak bankai is disingenuous. Shes the 4th most powerful soul reaper behind bankai kenpachi, True Bankai toshiro and bankai ichigo. Toshiro takes it a step further being able to freeze all matter, energy and functions which include ceasing all functions and "CONCEPTUAL" functions which are abstact and have no form. Toshiro straight up breaks all known laws of physics regarding energy/matter and then it becomes pure science fiction with his function negating ability on an abstract level and freezing energy which is essentially a gag character feat. You can’t freeze energy, because there’s nothing to freeze, energy has no mass or matter thus no form, it’s a transferable property to induce states of matter, you can lose energy as normal freezing does like with rukias bankai but to freeze it like he does? Makes no sense 😂.

So glad that you clarified Renji's and Komomaru's were both pre-second invasion 1000 year blood arc, because honestly after they both got an upgrade they were strong af. Only other one on here I actually disagree with is Kensei's. I'm pretty sure most bankais wouldn't have done well against Mask de masculine because as long as that James thing is alive, he basically can't be harmed. Other than that, most of this is just bad writing and development on Kubo's part (which is why it lost funding and the series was cancelled to begin with)

Renji situation with bankai make me think: what if there is more characters that got their bankai wrong name from their zanpakutou ? Maybe soifon bankai is not complete ? I mean, her bankai completly not fit like you said, and have so many drawbacks. What can it look when is complete then ? Some of these weaknesses can easily be solved. If Soi fon worked with her vice captain like others she should be able to use her bankai easier, Kensei bankai isn't that bad imo I think he was just done dirty and doesn't have enough reiatsu, Rose bankai can be used well if he doesn't tell them the weakness, Rukia overcomes her weakness over time. Sajin's bankai should be his shikai. And his bankai should be him, transforming to his bankai (but normal size if I may prefer) and focuses on impenetrable defense. It match his attitude as a gentle giant.

10:05 I've seen people argue before that that is exactly what makes Ichigo's bankai so good. Other bankai are pretty one and done and they have to make it count, but Ichigo can keep using his bankai fight after fight after fight.
