Each floor of the Cosmopolitan has been masterfully crafted to create a truly unique atmosphere. From Art Deco to Neo-Gothic, you'll see a little bit of everything as we encounter architectural treasures from floor to floor.

"Zillow Description: "est 1896 The Cosmopolitan is the hidden gem of St. Louis. Built in the heart of historic downtown for National Cash Register and later housing Clark Peeper Furniture (whose ghost sign still haunts the West wall), this high-class low-rise has most recently been the showroom, studio, and playground of design firm Antique Architectural Decor. The first floor lounge and reception area is Gothic, with distinctive frescoes and house-made tile and glasswork. The brass elevator leads up to the mezzanine meeting area and third level loft apartment, styled from the columns to the lighting design to be both contemporary and timeless. The crown jewel of The Cosmopolitan is the Gothic 5th floor penthouse. Travertine floors, custom stone and tilework, illuminated stained glass, ceiling buttresses, and such modern amenities as Viking appliances and a home theater make it a space like no other. Obsessively detailed and utterly unique, this St. Louis treasure is not to be missed."

I wasn't expecting this wonderful level of eccentricity which truly brings the character of such an old and historical building to life. The lofts that spans only half way across the space are so architecturally interesting and who wouldn't want to have a drink at that bar.

Wow! What exactly is the Cosmopolitan? Is it still a running business, a storage unit or rental property? As eclectic as everything was those elevator door's certainly could use some "sprucing up" paint or other form of restoration to better fit the "theme, vibe or what have you" for each floor and apartment. Fascinating through and through.

I'm so glad you enjoyed it! The Cosmopolitan is the home of the owner's Antique Architectural Decor company. He leases the 2 lofts to his close friends and uses the rest of the space as his art studio. Perhaps we will dive in a bit deeper with him on one of his other projects in the future.

I was curious too. I thought the elevator was cool. I'm pretty sure it was originally used as a freight elevator, no-frills, and it's a good thing too, how else would they have gotten that grand piano up there. Very cool building.

What a jaw-dropper! I love the eclectic collections, and how some of the most fantastic architectural items were salvaged. Certain items appear newer than the building itself, but nothing jars the eye. I think the 'faux wood' wall design has an Art Deco vibe. I find it cozy, despite the size. Probably because of all the wonderful wood. I also like that the marble used is warm in tone, rather than stark and slick. What a fun place to explore. Downtown San Diego had the Olde Cracker Factory (a real cracker & candy factory, built in 1913), which during the 1980s operated as an indoor Antique Mall. Huge French Wardrobes, carousel horses, and all kinds of amazing old oddities around every corner. Now it's condos, but the outer shell of the building was saved, and looks mostly the same. I'm sure you will be tempted to go back to the Cosmopolitan. I could see it in your eyes! I know I'll watch this video again! :)

Hello from NYC and from your newest subscriber! So, a little confession here…I have been watching your videos on my TV, and finally decided to get on my phone to subscribe to your channel! And I really enjoyed this video (And the others that I’ve seen this past week!), and was curious about the round (Asian figure) glass piece at the 1:04 mark or the other one on the front door of the building of a woman (Art Deco inspired) at the 0:52 mark, are any of those Lalique? And without a doubt, the Penthouse was my favorite floor! Plus I love how you always give very interesting history behind each of the properties you showcase in your videos! You are most enjoyable to watch, and I can tell you have quite the passion for what you do! Thanks for your videos and sharing your world with us! God bless you! 🙏🏼💖

Pardon me, while I pick my jaw back up off the ground. Where would I even begin? So many things; so many questions. This place just made me want to go there myself. At 9:45 there was what appeared to be a very old, very unique wood-burning stove, and at 9:59 there was maybe an alligator carving. Any additional information on those fabulous eccentricities? Do you by chance know what wood, maybe Birch or Cypress, that lovely grand piano was crafted from? Also, is the owner swapping out some of the items around St. Louis for theatrical props, or is the owner a collector? No matter what, please say to Mr. Strum, "Many thanks for permitting [you] to give us this extraordinary tour." Mind blown.
@ThisHouse
@ThisHouse 2 жыл бұрын
It was spectacular to explore! The stove seen at 9:45 is from St. Louis Steam Engine no.1. At 9:59 we weren't sure what it was, possibly part of an old ship or timbers from an ornate Tudor Revival. If I had to guess the wood for the piano, I would choose Birch, though I am not 100% certain. The owner is a collector and artist, some of the pieces were his own works, others were pieces he rescued from being destroyed. I'm so glad you enjoyed this tour! -Ken
