You know, instead of singling out men, you could just do a video about "toxicity" and encourage everyone to treat everyone right, regardless of gender.

This just in feminist and masculinity are two different things and sometimes we have to discuss how different traits that involve women and men affect women and men. Lmao That’s like going to a breast cancer awareness and complaining about how we aren’t talking about cancer in general.

@@dominiquebaby678 Oh, and if all cancer could be diagnosed and treated the same way, we'd be right to complain about "breast cancer awareness" too. But in the case of my question, I'm assuming we want to discourage the same "toxic" behaviors in both men and women, so again why single men out?

@@adomaster123 I disagree. I think you could easily come up with a huge list of things women do that are toxic (including several things on the list of "toxic masculinity" traits/behaviors). As for why men commit suicide so much, I thought we had established that if a group commits suicide more it must be because they're mistreated by the relatively non-suicidal group? Toxic masculinity workshops are appearing across university campuses. How wonderful! I’m sure I’ve seen more than a few recent male attendees of these ideological sessions. How do I know? Well, ‘a tell’ is that the young male, apparently healthy, is proudly wearing his face diaper! I’ve seen quite a number of these young males wearing the mask of cowardice, while their girl friends are not!! (I actually cringe in vicarious shame…) Whatever problems these males may have, masculinity, toxic or otherwise, is clearly not one of them. Men, from time immemorial, have been called upon to risk, and often lose, their lives in the defence of home and family. These males…? Not a chance. Yes, it is true that masculinity can become toxic. Excluding psychopaths, which can have a huge genetic component, masculinity, all too frequently, becomes toxic when boys don’t have a stable father figure in their lives. It takes men to teach boys how to be men. Most boys, very early after puberty, are bigger and physically stronger than their mothers. A father is able to snap that young man’s leash in a way most mothers can’t. In suburbia, these fatherless boys all too frequently end up as little, panty waisted, sissies. Like the face-diaper wearing males, discussed above. Just what is this ‘detoxified male’ going to do when some aggressive hoodlum starts harassing his wife? My guess, as she’s being sexually assaulted, he’ll be calling the police after running away… You see, he really doesn’t know, his job is to fight off the attack, allowing his wife to escape. Yup, he may get seriously hurt or killed. That’s what it means to be a man. And no, not all males are men. In the inner city, fatherless young men, all too frequently, join violent gangs of criminal thugs. It’s no mystery why the inner city is so crime ridden. The number 1 cause of death for a young black man is death by young black man. These young men don’t have fathers in their lives… Hope you’ll check out my book “Deconstructing Social Justice”. I discuss this issue at length, with the data.

@toneofficial6528

Physical toughness is not bad, but if I use it to dominate others because I thinks that's what it means to be a man that's when it becomes toxic. Mental toughness is not bad, but when I hold it in so long that it causes me to lash out, and develop health and relationship problems, that's when it becomes toxic. Self-sufficiency is not a bad thing but it becomes toxic, when I refuse to ask for help, because that's not what men do and it could lead to isolation, drugs or crime. Men should be masculine. however we should not be so into our masculinity that it put us in mental or physical harm. That is the true meaning of Toxic Masculinity. I believe the problem is that women and other groups hijacked and redefined toxic masculinity because they want to redefine what it means to be a man.

However, fostering healthy relationships, respect, and emotional balance is equally important for personal growth. Aggression can be useful in sports like boxing but should be tempered with self-control and understanding. Even physical strength is not necessarily toxic simply because the average man could overpower a woman. Most gymbros are perfectly nice, decent people (anecdotal, but among my friends/acquaintances, the ones who are in shape and jacked tend to be the most comfortable and courteous around women). That college wrestler who got seriously wounded fighting off a bear to protect his friends was (fortunately) physically strong and not toxic. People who abuse their strength (whether or not they have a lot of it) to dominate people weaker than them are toxic. Having a lot of physical strength is not an indicator for abusive behavior.

@Anna Kimoto You just explained why mental/physical toughness is a crucial skill and wonderful mindset to have. "Establishing self-sufficiency is an essential part of healthy mental wellness. - The Link Between Self-Sufficiency & Mental Health There is nothing wrong with being independent. And it's good to be emotionally self-sufficient because you don't have to rely on other people for your own happiness. There are so many benefits to this, one being is you become more of a stable mental person and have a much better life. Without this, that means that if there were to be a moment where no one is there to help you, and you're in a lonely situation, AND you have this un-fullfilled dependence; you are LIKELY to resort to bad habits like, drinking, drugs, excessive smoking etc, which, if not already, could then lead to... you guessed it; suicide. You see, being self-sufficient is different from being selfish or self-centered. Now I'm not saying that if you just so happen to be more on the 'dependent side' then you're a really weak and inferior person. I'll even go as far and say that to become self-sufficient you first have to have certain assistance in some circumstances, that way you can apply it to your own life and learn from it causing a healthy growth and achieving to become more independent than you would have been in the learning stage. Then afterwards, have the capability to spread your knowledge for others. The reasons why men kill themselves are completely the opposite of these masculine ideas and traits. It's a sad misconception that leads us far from the truth and the ability to improve. I am speaking as someone who has seen now healthy men, have borderline suicide thoughts and mental health struggles and talk about their experiences and what they've learn. As well as my own past personal experiences and situations. Have a good day/night.

@@user-hliudpn the commenter is funny because the joke he talked about was funny. The joke being the video. I laughed too because there is no such thing as toxic masculinity. It is liberal propaganda. The traits talked about in the video are simply natural boyish behaviors and the video wants to turn strong men into weak pushover skinny neck manchilds. Like, how is being stoic a bad thing? How is being physically strong bad? Self sufficiency is good as well. Aggression and competitiveness are perfectly fine in sports too. The “rape culture” is not anything to do with masculinity, as it in fact demonstrates the actions of a weak person who cannot control themselves and performs domestic violence in affect.

@rebeccamiller9558 Absolutely! Being stoic can be very helpful in certain situations, especially when faced with challenges or adversity. The stoic philosophy encourages resilience, emotional control, and focusing on what is within your control. It helps to maintain calm in stressful situations and prevents overreacting to things outside of your influence. While it's important to acknowledge and process emotions, practicing stoicism can offer a sense of peace and mental strength during tough times. It's all about finding balance-embracing emotions when necessary, but also cultivating inner strength when things get difficult.

How on earth are stoicism, being physically and mentally tough, and being self-sufficient toxic traits?!?!? Stoicism is a way to get the most out of your time and not waste it doing pointless, damaging, and instantly gratifying activities. It also helps you to not worry so much about material values but more so about mental values. Being physically tough enables you to stand your ground in difficult situations such as an unavoidable confrontation, as well as generally helping in everyday life and being mentally tough increases your determination and will-power... How is that seen as being destructive?!?! And I don't even have to explain the importance of self-sufficiency.

TLDR: Toxic masculinity is discriminating against others for personal choices like sexuality and sensitivity (but is only toxic when men do it). Interpretation/application: any expansion of this definition quickly turns to vague gobbledegook about un-illustrated gender roles. The first 5 of the traits which may "exhibit toxicity" can be a natural expressions of personality and are not necessarily toxic unless they have become extreme (like most things). Also, no one gets to determine how sensitive and emotionally available a man should be, it is a personal choice.

Why is "physical and mental toughness" a bad thing? I played a competitive sport through school and college and I've pushed through the pain for important tournaments. I've picked myself back up from being demoralized to win from behind. Are those 'toxic' behaviors that propagate violence against women? I've also lifted weights 5+ times a week since I was a teenager to get better at my sport. Is that 'toxic'? Toxic men are toxic. Masculinity (even defined by the shallow features in this video like physical strength and stoicism) is very healthy and contrary to what the media seems to parrot, a lot of women find masculine traits attractive.

@@MedicalCentric Yeah, but those are traits that are considered masculine. I've played a couple of sports very seriously and the first thing my coaches taught me were to respect the opponent. My contention is with needlessly attaching 'masculinity' to behaviors by toxic individuals. Toxic people are toxic regardless of whet gender identity they conform to. Stereotypically masculine (that are not exclusive to men. Lots of women I know are strong and tough people) traits like ruggedness, strength, toughness are very positive in good people. At the same time, a bad person can use those same traits to hurt other people. Likewise, stereotypically feminine traits (again, not exclusive to women) like outward empathy, nurturing and sensitivity are very positive in good people, but a bad person can use those same traits to negatively manipulate other people or justify outdated social norms. I don't call it toxic femininity. Those are simply toxic people.

The list of traits is highly defective. It seems like this simply is badly produced but it could be that the whole concept of toxic masculinity is not thought through. Self sufficiency, physical and mental toughness and stoicism (being able to endure adversity with calm) are critical virtues that allow for a peaceful, prosperous existence for a person, a family, a city or a country. I came to this video trying to understand this new term and I am left wondering whether anything intelligent is being said using this term today.

What is toxic about masculinity? Nothing What is masculine about toxic masculinity? Nothing. Now let's switch things around. What is feminine about toxic femininity? Nothing. If there is something that I dislike the most is double standards. Anyone could get away with saying men are being toxic because they think they have to be tough. If I were to tell a woman she is being toxic because she is gossipy, then I would be considered sexist thanks to these double standards. What everyone must know is that because a lot of men are told to be tough and brave, that's how this entire system was made. From running a business to working in construction sites, men have made the impossible happen. Anyone who believes that women can do it to. They can. But the question is do they want to do it? We can tell men to show their feelings all we want but it's up to society to treat them with respect. You may think only men make fun of other men that show their feelings, but it's also women. In addition, women expect a man to be in control over his emotions when wanting to be in a relationship. It's just human nature. Naturally, a woman would want to be in a relationship with a man who has all of these "toxic traits." Surprising enough, women are more likely to be attracted to the bad boy type. So forget labeling an entire gender for problems going on in society. It's up to each individual to act in the most decent and well behaved manner. There is nothing masculine about toxic masculinity, there is nothing feminine about toxic femininity, and there is nothing humane about toxic humanity.

No, the comments proves how stupid the video is. 4 out the 6 common traits are good traits to exhibit. I mean really how is self sufficiency toxic? Toxic Masculinity used to refer to the extremes of these traits now these traits are toxic. We setting young men up to fail in life with the idea that these are toxic traits. Hence why male suicide, depression, incarceration, etc… is higher.

aggression - good when focused in the correct areas but does need to be controlled. When you are working out being aggressive to help you push yourself more is good but you need to be able to turn that off the th moment you put the weights down. being stoic - do your research, stoicisim is not and never has been about being emotionless, it's about having the mental fortitude to know that no matter what you got this and you can handle anything that comes your way. Physical and Mental toughness - ... since when is being tough bad? These are good things regardless of gender. Emotional insensitivity - okay fine, this I will give you, you ned to understand your own emotions and be sensitive to the emotions of others self-sufficiency - again, regardless of gender this is a good thing. However I believe you are getting at men not asking for help and that I will give you, being able to ask for help when you need it is a good thing but keep in mind, struggle is how you build strength so not asking for help on a task you are struggling with so that you can build strength is good. Not asking for help when you clearly need it is bad. discrimination against everything not hedro - fair, generally speaking this is bad. On the whole this entire thing is utter nonsense!

toxic masculinity means a set of attitudes and ways of behaving stereotypically associated with or expected of men, regarded as having a negative impact on men and on society as a whole. "the destructive messages associated with toxic masculinity can lead to men feeling entitled to engage in violence against women"

@RiseofTaitoShirei It takes a lot to recognize and challenge toxic behaviors, so if you're aware of it, that's a step in the right direction. Toxic masculinity harms everyone, including men, by enforcing harmful stereotypes. Embracing positive masculinity-like showing vulnerability, respect, and empathy-can lead to healthier, more fulfilling relationships and a stronger sense of self.

@@MedicalCentric All this video did was explain men normal from before decades before the 2010s. All toxic masculinity is is men who act normal for men. In fact liberal feminists have flat out praised me for my masculine nature. I am neer going to act lie a beta male.
