Why are protein supplements unsafe?
@munchandmull8 ай бұрын
Good question, given that they are so increasingly commonplace. Here is a quick summary of what the latest 2024 Dietary Guidelines say on Protein Supplements... 1. Body needs a balance of carbs & fats in addition to protein for the protein to be used. So excess protein will not really help. 2. Protein powders are made from either eggs or dairy milk or whey (a byproduct of cheese or paneer) or plant sources such as soyabeans, peas and rice. Some protein powders, marketed in packages as protein supplements, contain protein from multiple sources. Protein powders may also contain added sugars, non-caloric sweeteners and additives such as artificial flavoring, hence, are not advisable to be consumed on a regular basis. 3. Recent evidence suggests that an amino acid found in whey may increase the risk of certain non-communicable diseases. Now here is another angle... We have ourselves come across some cases where people who have used high protein supplements for weight loss had a major weight surge shortly after they stopped use of the supplements. Also... Protein deficiency is almost unheard except in malnourished populations. In other words, all the protein you need is much more than adequate even in a balanced vegan diet... So you actually don't even need to depend on meat, eggs or milk for your body's protein needs. So obviously, protein supplements are clearly unnecessary.
