Valerian is a perennial plant known scientifically as Valeriana officinalis. It is distinguished by its small pink or white flowers and is appreciated for its roots, which, after being dried and processed, are used to make supplements. These supplements are popular for their calming properties, helping to improve sleep and reduce anxiety. Valerian acts in the brain by increasing the levels of a neurotransmitter that promotes relaxation. It is widely used in traditional herbal medicine and is currently found in the form of capsules, tinctures or tea. In this video I explain its history, what its benefits and indications are, its culinary use, forms of medicinal use and possible adverse effects and contraindications. Don't miss this video!
