This has been my favorite hitting statistic for quite some time. I love it. Also, if you want even more analytics, I highly recommend checking out fangraphs and baseball savant. Baseball savant has a lot of the statcast numbers.

A lot of these videos are inspired by the time I’ve spent on both of those websites! I always link the articles/websites I research in the description of each of my videos - so be sure to check that out for more great info. Thanks for the comment!

Keep up the great work! Wish this statistic had more components of runs produced. Runs scored and runs kept off the board still win and lose games!

Amazing video, I always wondered aren't the weights going to be a little bit off because if a player hits all his home runs in Coors Field his numbers will generally be inflated because he hit them in Coors but, for example, what if all of his home runs were pulled and well over 400 feet, wouldn't those home runs most of the time be home runs in every other stadium? We weight numbers by stadium based on the league average but we don't talk about the length, launch angle, or exit velocity of those home runs that have a big effect on them. Also, the pitch design videos are great, I was wondering if you could make a video on the Edgertronic view of the pitches instead of just the animations, I feel it would be better to see what you are saying, especially for gyro spin. Thanks!

Thanks for the awesome comment, Yitz! Park factors definitely have their flaws still, neglecting exact park dimensions, but I’d say they’re better than leaving those numbers raw in my opinion. There are other stats out there, like barrels, that specifically measure each athletes numerical production based off of LA & EV. I definitely have thought about doing some more in depth edgertronic footage down the road. Wanted to start simple before we took it to the next level! Thanks again for the great comment.

A good stat to talk about would be expected weighted on base average. Take a look into it if you haven't already.

What makes this better than war?
@SimpleSabermetrics
@SimpleSabermetrics 3 жыл бұрын
In my opinion this is just a different variation of what WAR collects. WAR measures the total value of a player while this just offers insight to offensive or defensive metrics. A player could be stellar defensively (increasing his WAR) but not as good at the plate. Like most evaluations, utilizing multiple data points will best help you come to a solid conclusion when comparing two players or teams. wOBA does a really good job of this all around!

This stat doesn’t make sense. Right now a guy like Yasmani Grandal has a WRC+ of like 102 despite not being able to hit anything in compared to a guy like Leury Garcia who only has 39. The guy with 39 has produced more for this team with more RBIs n Runs scored. These analytics are losing the fundamentals of the game. All Yasmani does is walk and it’s not helping the team given that he’s a super slow runner. So how does a run “created” get more credit than the actual runs scoring via knocking them in or touching home plate?
@MrSeaner03

Would you like me to answer this? 1) I will start with the fact that RBI is not a good stat to measure “a good hitter” period. If hitter A always has runners in scoring position, he will of course have more RBIs than hitter B who never hits with runners in scoring position. 2) runs scored is viewed in a similar fashion. If hitter A gets on base the same number of times as hitter B, they are viewed as the same. Now, if hitter A has a better supporting cast (team), they will presumably score more. Does that make hitter A individually better? No. That is what you are trying to argue. Grandal gets on base and his team cannot score him. That seems like more of a “team” issue and not an “individual” issue.
@JADiaz10
@JADiaz10 3 жыл бұрын
@@MrSeaner03 any stat that suggests anyone hitting .125 is a “good hitter” is obviously flawed. There’s no justification for that. It’s not a “team” issue because WRC+ doesnt account for a player’s speed. So all “runs created” aren’t anywhere near equal if you’re a poor base runner. And the problem with analytics is that they devalue RBIs. Hitting with RiSP are the most important at-bats in any game and to say that RBIs don’t matter is crazy. That’s how you win the game. These analytics think opportunity is everything when it’s not. The pressure on a hitter when runners are on are significantly higher and these weighted stats don’t take that into account. I’ve seen this guy Grandal pass up so many opportunities to score because he’s swinging at the least balls IN the zone in the league. A lot of his walks have been insignificant and this stat is just flat out broken if it suggests he’s doing a great job lmfao.
@MrSeaner03
@MrSeaner03 3 жыл бұрын
@@JADiaz10 how could you possibly compare hitter A and B (using RBIs) when hitter A only hits with runners on and hitter B NEVER hits with runners on? Answer: you can’t. Looking at a hitters AVERAGE with RISP is a better way to look at what you are referring to but just strictly looking at that number doesn’t tell NEARLY the whole story.
