You are amazing. I have a toddler and a baby and I'm a stay at home mom. When I was getting my education not one person ever said hey, you might want to take a home ec classes because you might one day have kids to take care of and a home to run. Not once. So I went into my marriage with an education and basically no practical homemaking skills. So of course my first two years as a mom were a bit of a disaster but KZbinrs like yourself have taught me how to function and be successful in my current position in life. Thank you so much for your videos I watch them all. ❤

I am a mix of a zone cleaner and task cleaner. I drew a line down a piece of paper and I have sticky notes with each task and each room. I move them from the to do side to the done side. On Monday they all move back to the to do side. It give me the chance to choose what I feel like doing each day while also making sure each task gets done that week... sometimes lol

Erica A I am a stay at home mom. My husband and I sat down 7years ago before I stopped working and laid out a "job description" we both could agree on :) obviously every household is different and you need to do what works best for you. My husband is great about picking up any slack and helping with anything I ask if a particular week gets crazy.

I do this but with a magnetic board. I use cute picture magnets (Etsy) for tasks and move from one side to the other when done. No certain days, I work better with the freedom to chose.

Zone cleaner here. I'd been feeling pretty pissed off that others in my house don't have the same level of interest in keeping those areas clean. Then....the clouds parted and angels sang (aka Cas's advice). You mentioned that rather than get angry at others, clean because the end result makes YOU happy and less stressed. Gah! So brilliant and I had never looked at it from that perspective. I'm finding myself more at peace after I do a cleaning bc it makes ME happy to see a clean space. I focus on that and I feel much better and less likely to rage, even when my 3 heathen boys pee on the toilet seat. Ok, maybe not then. ; )

This is very true. When living together, people often have very different standards for cleanliness. Some people love things to be super clean, others would be content to live in a pigsty. Here, it is obviously important to find a middle ground. it should not necessarily adhere to the lowest OR the highest standard. Both find a level they can live with, so both sides contributes. But if someone likes cleaning, and prefers super clean, then they will have to put in the extra work themselves. It is not fair to expect others to spend hours on cleaning every day, as long as they still contribute to a decent standard.

Your bit at the end about not wanting to be what I thought was a "traditional" woman rang so true for me. I love my rebellious bohemian inside me, but it was also immature to think that "maturity" was the same as "conformity". You can still be a wild child with a schedule!

Youre such a lovely young woman. I enjoy your videos. You totally crack me up😅 Im a natural cleaner. I was born to be tidy within a family of tidiers. My style these days is task cleaning. It wasnt a conscious decision though. I only realised it when you pointed out the different styles. Now if you are wondering why a 'natural' is watching your vids? Its because of the decluttering. I learnt so much from you. Instead of buying more storage space, I have been clearing everything out. Clearing out craft supplies was the hardest. Clothing was fun. I didnt want to let it go. But since Ive been watching you I actually emptied my winter wardrobe and all my spare blankets and coats I donated to charity. Then afterwards I realised I didnt have a raincoat😅😅😅 So in these last 2 years Ive given away 2 wardrobes of clothing. Book shelves of novels and have umpteen empty storage containers. Oh and bedlinen. I only have 3 sets now. And one of those is for winter. Im not finished yet but every single thing that goes out of my door makes me feel lighter and happier. So when it came right down to it."I didnt need more containers. I simply needed less stuff".

It’s truly divine intervention that I found you. I could relate to you on so many levels. I also wanted to be as free as a bird and the idea of a routine seemed so claustrophobic. However now at the age of 30+ with bad anxiety and a lot of stress all the time I realized this was a big reason why. My mom did everything for me so I didn’t really learn how to tidy. Then the idea of routines and structure just seems so boring. I always wanted to be doing other things. Thank you so much for this video. It is nice to feel like you are not alone. I hope to get out on the other side like you did. Well done 🐞 🤗

I watched my mom work herself to the bone trying to provide for herself and 2 kids. I swore I would never do what she did. I know how you feel when you say you wanted to rebel against adulthood but I also know how much we need it. It gives us a sense of security. It saves us time energy and even money. My brother who is almost 27 can't seem to stand on his own 2 feet. It's sad, but that is what he chose. He refuses to grow up even a little. I am so thankful in security. Having a home and people who love me and yes even routines. It can get boring but sometimes boring is good. Love your videos. You are truly adorable.

This idea is SO freeing!!! I have always been a zone cleaner and it has NEVER worked for me. When our boys were little I read in a few places that for them it is better to break cleaning down by task, so I have always done that for them. After watching your video I am like oh my goodness, why have I not done this for myself?? I get too overwhelmed when I see an entire messy room that needs cleaned. So I am now breaking the work down by task for all of us!!

While growing up in a big family, 7 siblings, nieces n nephews over all the time. My mom was a clean as you go type n I helped starting at the age of 8 years old. Then when I moved out n had my own child I was a Saturday spring cleaner, every Saturday. Sunday was laundry n cooked several meals for the whole week. Single working mom in the 80's... I was freezer meal planner back then. Married with 2 additional children n hubby n working still Saturday spring cleaner. Now I'm a task weekly cleaner n works great...I think as your time changes n household changes so will your cleaning style. I have more time for my several crafts that I enjoy, movies with hubby on Tuesdays n getting together with friends once a month....thank you so much for the descriptions n great information....

I have been trying to tell my kids this for years. I make them have a routine with emptying out their backpacks, doing their dishes, making their lunches. Then in the morning they have routines as well. I have explained that by doing these things everyday and right away will give them plenty of time to have fun when it’s done rather than playing then having to do these late at night when you just don’t want to. I’m going to show them this video so they can see that having just a small routine can really help them. Thank you for sharing your story about your life, I’m sure it will help my kids. God bless you 😁👍

Very helpful video. Thank you. I've struggled with structure in my life. Until recently, I would feel overwhelmed by housework, unsure how to approach it. I'm still working out the routine that best fits me but there is steady improvement. I now enjoy cleaning because there is structure and the payoff makes it worth it. I love having a clean house. It's very refreshing.

I love the dark trim/doors in your house. We have a dog that has totally messed up the paint job on our doors/door trim (she likes to open the doors herself). I’ve wanted to go dark but thought it would look weird but it looks great! It would match our dark furniture. LOL I was the same when I moved out. My parent’s house was, and is, spotless. My ex was a total slob and I got in bad cleaning habits. When I was really depressed my house was a disaster. A clean house makes you feel a lot more relaxed. My wife and I both have adhd so I love they way you break things down into manageable portions. 2018 is the year we are getting our lives and house organized. I think we’re both fed up with the clutter and mess. Thanks so much for your motivating videos!

I’ve just recently come across your channel and I love your enthusiasm and sense of humour. I used to be a weekend warrior because I used to work long hours and weekend was the only time. When I had it stop working because health, finding myself with so much time and an illness to accommodate was not simple. The cleaning routine went out of the window entirely and instead of spending more time on cleaning, I spent much less on the basis that ‘ I can do it tomorrow’. Only tomorrow I had other things to do. It didn’t help that my illness wasn’t controlled and I was in pain and majorly fatigue all the time. It took me 5 years (!) to finally get my head around being home all day, not being able to do much before being unable to breathe properly but needing (mentally) to have a clean house. We are moving shortly to a bigger house and whilst at the beginning I was overwhelmed by the idea of cleaning all that, I’m now looking forward to it. I think I’ll only be able to do it with a mixture of spot cleaning and zone cleaning, as task cleaning doesn’t give me the same feeling of accomplishment as having a room done top to bottom. Your videos are a joy to watch, you’re full of life and so positive, and I thank you for that. It’s very motivating for me and I’m looking forward to reading your latest book which arrives today!

I do morning, afternoon and night routines. Much like your’s. They’re quick basic resets of myself and home. The day includes a cleaning task (dust, vac, mop, mirrors, linens) and a short declutter or deep cleaning task in the zone of the week. Routines help get the necessary stuff out of the way in the most efficient manner - so I have time for more fun stuff.

Hi Cass, your story at the end resonates with me SO MUCH! My mother had routines for EVERY THING! I felt so hemmed in and wanted to break free! It took such a long time for me to appreciate that her ordered and beautifully kept home had really made me happier. When I was living in mess and chaos it was really hard to complete anything! Now I am working on trying to find the way forward that really suits me. I want my cake and eat it too!!! I will never be able to be like my mother. - she seemed to really love housework and the job of being an at home mum. I have always had a career as well as a family and this suits me best. I am going to try your printables and see if they help me to a happier place, so thank you Cass x x love from Deb

I'm totally a Zone cleaning person!! I even post other routines by Zone because it makes more sense to my mind!! THANK YOU for the end message, it resonated with my son who has been and is rebelling hard against ANY structure or responsibility.

Thank you for this. I've become overwhelmed trying to clean my new house which is bigger than where we used to live. I'm going to try each of these methods to see which works for me now. Be blessed 💗

For years I was a weekend warrior, as I worked full time. Then I started having someone come in once a month to help with the deep cleaning. I retired last year so now I'm trying to get into a cleaning routine. So I'm searching for something that will work for me I've found that I have issues trying to do one room at a time. But I'm working on it. Just hard to break old habits. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on cleaning

I'm a weekend warrior but I sure wish I was a daily cleaner. Takes so much time on the weekend but I can't seem to find the time during the week with work and the kids after school activities. Love the video! Thanks!

I love cleaning! My family thinks I'm nuts. I love doing laundry too! I also love trying new cleaning products and making my own. I recently bought a large bag of baking soda instead of those small boxes. I also bought a large container of white vinegar. My sister says I need a hobby!!

I LOVE that saying. So perfect. Serve, not enslave. That is exactly right. It seems the opposite at first, but it's just so life changing when you finally give in!

Thank you for another awesome video, Cas! I used to be a weekend warrior but I didn't like giving up so much of my day to cleaning. I am trying to be a daily speed cleaner but need to work on it a little bit. I'm realizing the more planned out the routine is the smoother everything will go...

Ur such an inspiration! Ur story was so helpful to me you have no idea. Basically floating through the day for so many years is ruining my life when i thought a schedule and rules and and agenda would make me so unhappy. Its like a logjt bulb went off when i saw this video. It all makes sense now.

I just recently started doing zone cleaning! I'm selling my house soon so each day I've been working on one room and it feels nice to see a clean room when finished. However I'm normally a speed daily cleaner!

This is awesome info. I decided what my style is now! It's called PAY A HOUSEKEEPER!!! Now I can go to happy hour and the beach. Problems solved! But truthfully that darn Swiffer SweeperVAC changed my habit of cleaning floors and those Costco disinfectant wipes. A clean sponge motivates me, and hey it is OK TO DO DISHES IN THE MORNING 🌻 This sweet little Canadian lady has inspired me to get excited about boring cleaning and decluttering. You go , girl! Clean that "hooouuuse" haha

I have 2 kids, work full time, and go to school so I do a power hour when I get home from work while I'm making dinner, and I do a weekend deep clean. I'm glad I'm not crazy and there is a name for it!

I think I'm more of a zone cleaner. I like having full results in one area before moving on to another room. I despise weekend cleaning now although I used to favor it. Weird how we change. But boy I needed this video. Cleaning routine & structure eludes me. I want a clean space but I'm like "I want to do more with my life than cleaning 24/7" so I've been overwhelmed trying to get myself lined out. I think I'll try your ten minute 3x a day thing ☺

Thanks for the wise words. I totally agree about routine makung things easier. I have lived my life following routines and thrived on it. Unfortunately I now suffer with chronic pain (arthritis in my spine). This means that I can only do things in very bursts. I have adapted though and although the way I keep my house clean and organised may seem a touch unorthodox, it allows me to still feel productive. When I say short bursts I mean 10 or 15 minutes at a time!! X
